Does anyone who collects bionicles really value boxes and being complete in box? Like aside from canisters since those are very obviously not meant to be disposable, I'm wondering how many people actually try to get the boxes for like titan sets or shit like matoran and turagas when they collected bionicle.

I'm wondering because I'm currently trying to reorganize how I store some sets and containers, and I just threw out a bunch of boxes that got all ratty and torn up over the years, but a couple boxes were in pretty good shape and I was wondering if I was just pissing away like an extra 20 or 30$ if I ever get around to selling anything cib.

yeah that's kind of why I went on a cardboard holocaust on my collection. A few boxes I decided to keep (my takanuva box and all 6 bohrok va, all because they were in good shape and because I might try displaying them somehow like my Bahrag box) but overall I just kind of realized it was all just wasting space for nothing.

Also fuck the toa Mahri canisters, goddamn, what were they thinking with those? I wish I could bring myself to throw those out.

No not at all. I have no problem with sets being loose or even missing a small handful of pieces. It's just something you have to tolerate when buying 15-20 year old toys. If I was insistent on having instructions/box I would have spent a hell of a lot more on my collection by now.

I do value the boxes just because everything I do have with a box or canister is so much easier to work with. I don't like that I keep all the Metrutoran and all the Turaga in a shoe box. I don't like how I have the Mahri in a plastic bin. I don't like how I keep Lhikan and Takanuva in mata canisters. I kept all my G2 boxes and it's so much better. I went out of my way to by a Thok cannister because my original Thok I bought in the Irnakk set and threw away the box.

Tbh I dont think I have respect for Lego's upper management for any point in time; they were always retarded. They always did utterly stupid, mindnumbing practices and somehow stayed on top by sheer luck and having creative guys working for them.
Remember how long it took for them to introduce the color green instead of simply white/red/yellow/blue/black, because the CEO's daughter had to beg [[[for years]]] that she wanted green fucking trees?
How about the entire way they treat the concept of themes, where once a theme's run is over they abandon the idea forever and never revisit it even after a break? They just do whatever's in their power to keep each theme running as long as possible until people grow tired and want something new, at which point the entire concept is locked into the disney vault never to be revisited again. We're fucking LUCKY we got the Castle/Pirates/Space revivals in the mid2000s, or the rare occasional nostalgiawank Space/Pirates/Castle set from Creator or Ideas. They'll never revive any of these lines again because they already ran their course, in their minds, which is dumb.
Also don't get me started on the myriad of retarded decisions they made in the 90s and the 2000s, they were borderline begging to go under, it's no wonder.

I remember 2007. My family was falling apart all around me. I think I knew it was happening, but it was easier just to play with my bionicles and try to drown out my parents fighting. It was easier just to be a kid rather than face the future.
That was 14 years ago. Is everyone still wanting Bionicle to come back like that? Refusing to grow up and just live an endless circle jerk of nostalgia? Who fucking cares what the Hagah looked like? I don't understand anymore.

However after bulding it myself I noticed that the jaw function doesn't really work properly(like in Muaka) and I am not sure it is even possible to build it in a way that the jaw doesn't block the stretching function or doesn't flop around.

TTV's a forum group that people here really despise for varying reasons. They were/are running contests for book/serial-only characters, where phase one would have people submit a MOC as the "inspiration," and phase two would be artists creating an interpretation of the character based on the MOC, which would then be sent in to Greg for approval and be treated as "canon".
We already had ones for Helryx and Artakha, and honestly while both winning mocs sucked, the art for both was genuinely great and did subtle proportional and armor tweaks and such to make them look better.
The problem is that all these contests are fucking horrendously managed. For one, you need to have a TTV account to even participate, which sucks ass because TTV sucks ass. Secondly, their moderation is godawful; tons of pedantic, arbitrary rules that stifle creativity, the contests run at a snail's pace (the Hagah mocs won months ago and they're STILL reviewing the art submissions), and then you have the doomers arguing the contests' existence to begin with (many prefer having the chars up to imagination and think having "definitive" canon versions of them would de-incentivize making mocs that stray from that design. I think thats dumb because it's not like reinterpretation mocs of existing official figures don't exist already, lmao).
But yeah, thats basically the gist of it.

Fun fact, Bomonga MOC is absolutely horrible to build, with awkward proportions, aforementioned shield, torso limbs and so on.
Someone built it in one of earlier threads (9246475) and commented on it.
If ttv really cared about moc being buildable and working, they should have did it earlier and not cry after the contests are already over.

It will forever be regarded as a secondhand build that isn't the best, because the bestest canon one is on the wiki. Sites like TTV are autistic enough to even bitch about artist drawing hagah with shields being attached to arms and not hands. I don't see how being able to build anything yourself is even a point. You can make a moc of whatever you want but that doesn't that your creation will be treated seriously by anyone.

Working on a Bomonga revamp using Slizer heads to make faux-Metru torsos and attempting to remedy some of the original issues, in my spare time.
Firstly like, it's stupid simple to attach the spinner to the shield. You just build it like normal, and attach the axle the figure's meant to hold it by to one of Bomonga's fingers. Have any of you built a Bionicle figure before? It's a fucking braindead obvious solution you mongs.

Thirdly, reviewing the post one more time, most of his complaints seem like they can be easily adjusted with alternative building techniques, and the proportional complaints come down to taste. Hardest thing to solve might be the ankle posability, maybe, but not impossible for sure.
Like cmon, do any of you remember Helryx's shitty shoulders and how an alt design was figured out almost immediately? The winning mocs aren't what become canon, it's the art, niggers.

Went into some petco while on some kind of school trip, they had a onua and a kopaka mata for some reason, both around like, 100-125$
They also had some kind of moc right above them with that golden kraahkan on it for like, 25$. Due to the fact it was just kinda hanging from a slatwall hook with no packaging and everything was pretty close to the entrance I just kinda nabbed the mask and casually walked out, I think mid conversation too. Also all the prices were weird like, not exactly 25$ not exactly 125$
It was the dream so what could I really do?

So has anyone ever played Bionicle Heroes?

I used to think it was like the one good bionicle game growing up (that isn't a PC adventure game I guess), but it's pretty shit really after replaying it a few months ago. The gameplay is braindead easy (especially with Nuparu fully upgraded since his gun is just a spammable screen nuke), except for the bosses which are just long ass autoscrollers, it's designed for replays with all the collectibles that need upgrades to get but it's shit to replay because of all the long ass unskippable cutscenes, and Traveler's Tales standard slapstick lego game humor kind of feels out of place in a kind of grittier looking shooter game, especially if you have even the vaguest idea of what the plot should actually be.

I mean it's not straight shovelware like that shitty Mask of Light game but there's really nothing worth it about that game without the Bionicle IP on it.

I'm convinced my enjoyment of Heroes was about 80% carried by how much I liked the Hero Mode music. Just shutting off all brain functions, going invincible, and running around blasting enemies from all across Bionicle's history with elemental powers while that played in the background was so fun it somehow let me ignore the game's complete disregard for muh sacred lore.

Havent replayed it yet to confirm, but I remember reading how someone played the game without upgrading their weapons, and found the challenge actually much better - that it almost seemed as if the game was balanced around that and upgrading just breaks it. I dont know if he upgraded his weapons to level 2 or not, but he def said that level 3 upgrades were OP (which we all know anyway lol).

Anyways, play the DS version. It's an FPS and actually pretty fun, I like it a lot. Havent played the GBA Heroes game but it looks funny, its a topdown action game, and it almost seems as though the characters are minifig sized cuz you can see large studs occasionally, which is cute considering that was a game for a pocket console.

My question is, has anybody played the GBA version of the 2003 game? I've literally never even heard of it til I off-hand heard somebody mention that it was the worst bionicle game ever made, worse than the console version. Im morbidly curious now...

Is there a full piece list for Kardas (ie not the 10204 set)? I managed to get another Axonn and Fenrakk, and I think I have enough pieces to substitute all of Brutaka's relevant parts. I just don't want to be halfway into it and find out I'm somehow missing some obscure piece that only one of them happened to have.

Funny you mention that, I just built a Kardas from incomplete titans I found on ebay. It uses most of the parts, but there are a good chunk that go unused, like obv Brutaka and Axonn's heads and masks. I also remember two of Axonn's fingers going unused, but honestly I didnt write down a parts list unfortunately...
My recommendation? Try to build Kardas in Stud.io to the best of your ability while reading his instructions off to the side, or at least lay the parts down into the build area lol, and then once you're done, export the file into a bricklink parts list. Simple as.

Two quick recommendations btw, if youre building from incomplete sets, consider replacing the brown inika armor piece for a dark red one, since it goes on Kardas' body and clashes with the color scheme anyway, it'll save you some money lol. But also, yknow those two light gray 1L pins with studs on them? There are two that go into his upper jaw, and the Fenrakk head piece is meant to go over them, but the studs make them juuuust too wide and it stretches the piece. The fix is simple, just invert the pins so that the stud is inside of the head instead of outside; same structural integrity, but now the head piece isnt being stressed. Simple!

The spear of fusion has a unique brown Inika thighpiece. I have another Vezon that uses one of the gold armor pieces from Tarix, but since I don't have spare Brutaka golds, I'll probably just use a silver or dark red bit so I end up with a red-silver only Kardas. I'm also kind of interested to see how it looks with the red Skirmix head, might try that as well.

anything that isn't loose in a bin is either in its canister if applicable or parted out in a bag. I've never had any issues with plastics degrading or rubber crumbling or anything though I probably just live in a good climate for it.

Aside from the later socket designs I'm not really worried about parts breaking, even then with those shitty later sockets I just try to intentionally snap them at the tips instead of around the base since they generally keep most of their strength if they break that way.

Canister sets in canisters, few Rahi and Titans in a bin. Have mostly pre-04 stuff. I have them like semi-disassembled where I take off arms, legs and appendages for some of them but can easily put them back together. Its like the halfway point from taking them apart completely and you can fit more in the bin compared to being fully build.

And done. The legs having imitation pistons is neat, slightly concerned about the neck because it wants you to lay the neck brace on top of a 3L pin. Overall quite good looking in red/silver/black only, if anyone else is making it without using all 3 sets, you can reclaim 3 of the rubber sockets because they don't get used in places that need the perpendicular axle hole.

As >>9471385 mentions, if you flip the pins around, the curve of the head slides onto the triangle correctly. I use the slightly longer dark grey 1.5L pin instead of the light grey 1.5L, but the principle is the same.

Why wasn't this ever a focus for the Bionicle fan community?

At this point, it seems almost more probable to just make a modded port of this using this game engine since this looks more fun and accessible then simply to wait for someone to make a MNOLG (without Flash) or even a steam game, this looks so much more easily imitated.

So I finally parted out the majority of the JTO Makuta combiner model without sacrificing any of my G2 sets and I honestly don't know what I was expecting. The guy is kinda cool but he just feels like ass. G1 had some stinkers of combiners but the best of them were at least securely put together, this guy suffers from everything being attached to a balljoint and moving around when it shouldn't, like the shoulders, chest and skirt. The hips look nice but fuck trying to move them. Who's idea was it to use skulls for arm support? Without a MoUP the head looks dinky only wearing the MoControl.
This guy has been a bit of a grail and instead he's just kinda expensively disappointing.

He looks better than Ultimate Dume I guess.

The Zyglak is pretty great, as is Botar. Ntm most of the 2001 Rahi combiners, those're pretty great too. I'm also fairly fond of the original Toa Mata's Kaita, they were charming if very oddlooking. I also like a few of the 2004 canister set combiners, they were pretty fun.
Then you get combiners like Sentrakh, Takutanuva, and Ultimate Dume, which are all pretty okay but could be better. That being said though, it is Lego, you could fairly easily fix a fair bunch of their issues just by making something up yourself.
I know two guys already did pretty well-received revamps of Ultimate Dume and both TSO and Sentrakh using only their original parts, and they look way better; i think you can find their threads on TTV just by searching. I'm working on my own mild revamps of Makuta and Takutanuva to give their legs more articulation, and so hopefully that'll make them both look and feel way better (I also hope to give Takutanuva a gold Kraakhan and use the side that resembles the Avohkii, I think that'll sell the whole "Takanuva and Makuta fused together" look way better.

Also yes the Voyatoran combiners are fucking kino, listen to >>9476150.

Maybe not as creative but I find they're a hell of a lot more fun than the shitty Bohrok Kal combiners. I wonder if anyone's ever try to make a cleaned up and sleeker version of them, the only bohrok kaita mocs I've seen are just total reimaginings.

Looking at the turnaround, the eyeholes seem to actually be the same diameter as the stud that connects to the mouth. Looking closer though it seems that there isn't much clearance for the rest of the stud piece to fit behind the mask, unless maybe I were to file away at the inside of it..? Though that seems risky.
Also looking closer, the latter mask seems to have some grooves in the eyeholes to hold the barraki eyes in place, but no idea how it keeps them from falling out the front...
About how large are barraki eyes anyways? They're the same diameter as any stud iirc, right?

Oh huh, apparently one of the losing Kualus mocs from the Hagah contest used a print of the former (Galva's) mask instead of KhingK's, and desu looking at it, I'm a bit more mixed now. Of the two I linked it's definitely more accurate to the art, but man the forehead is fucking huge, it might look better on a Matoran though. The latter (Zhokker's) mask feels more like something fitting for a Toa-sized character, it's more sleek and "cool" looking lmao. Also thinking about it, with the grooves in the latter mask's eyeholes, one could easily just use two stud pieces for each eye, and have the grooves inbetween them to keep them in place. I think that's what I'll end up doing, since the Barraki eyes come in way more limited colors than just the standard transparent 1x1 studs.

Then again, he does claim the entire point of this is to be juniorized. These are for the youngest demographic so they can build shit that can stand on its own and isn't fragile. It's a great idea for that, but it's a shame that we likely won't see better models with an enhanced system.

They definitely got lazy with CCBS, one of the main problems I had with Bionicle G2 is that they still stubbornly stuck to the same shells and limbs as sets from 2011. They are still the best sets using the system, but even with the gearboxes and more technic-heavy builds of the 2016 sets the reuse of the same shell molds made it really hard for the sets to stand out from the host of previous constraction themes.

Lego always saw the CCBS shells as unfinished, which is why we got so many armor add-ons to add texture to the shells. The problem with is that the add-ons made the shells twice as bulky, so in order to give a set proportions it required some shells to be bare. I guess the Star Wars sets were on the right track by introducing specialised shells like the shin piece.

I've seen them make better transformers sets than the official merch. Why can't they revive Bionicle? They clearly can make stuff on pair with original toys even if at a slightly higher price.

Either way I personally consider this stuff all semi-canon regardless, so if you like the design in the art you can just say it's the lighting/stylistic choice, and make a moc based on it but in dark blue; that'd look neat! Personally I prefer regular blue anyway, cuz dark blue's fairly overused as far as Bionicle goes.

I was shopping for some small stuff in BL and the seller happened to have an orange Mahiki in stock for 1.80€. I'm not usually a kanohi collector but that was pretty cheap.
By the way, Bricklink seems to have listings for '01 masks in all kinds of different metallic colors. Which ones of those are "official"? There's supposed to be one wave of gold-colored releases and another one of silver versions. I suppose all the color variants in BL are just seller interpretations?

Update of Kulta I did a few months ago is the latest thing I've worked on.

Yeah I didn't go into details but this is the last poll I believe. 5 out of 6 finalists feature a Gaaki with copper.

Must say, the voters were kind of [toyspoiler]based[/toyspoiler] this time around. I dislike canon(ized) Helryx and I like artwork Artakha, so this had a 50% chance of being shit AFAIC. But the possible winners look pretty good. I'll definitely ignore the "the mask design doesn't match its power" rule though, and give them my own designs. 2005 Iruini ignored it to begin with anyway.

Kulta's the only MOC among those, but there's a few G1 bits in him. Mostly in the legs and in his shoulders and torso.
I love G1 and vastly prefer it, but the skeletons were one of my favorite aesthetics for villains of either generation.
Been working on integrating G1 and G2 more fully when I build., difficult as that may be.

What are the odds of Karzahni's price going up any further? I've got the entire set minus Karzahni himself but parting him out alone costs an arm and a leg.
I'm debating how soon I might want to start amassing his parts, especially the rarer bits, before the market goes even stupider.

It's how I got the rest of the set, I bought a lot at $100 that I saw the trap in and thought the rest of him was there. Turns out there was just the pistons and one claw.
I've spent hundreds on Bionicle in recent months so I'll wait just until the new year. Should be getting a new job soon so I should be able to foot that bill no problem. Thanks for the tips you guys
