Could just be people not familiar with the source not liking the designs.

That feels like a MASSIVE waste of a Bane figure entry.

For me, Bane was an extremely weak release and looked like an extremely unfun figure. WW looked good but her sheath just looks terrible (I really hate the way they're doing these half open sheaths with so many figures). Batman and Omega were both well done, and Scarecrow is more or less what he should be, but I have no motivation to get all of them because Bane is badly done.

Probably because it's the 2nd alternate Batman themed wave. While there are a lot of Batman fans people still want variety and even fans will only buy so much of the sameish thing.

As a Superman fan I only bought the Lex Luthor and Bizarro, since the Superman was not great and I don't care about all the alternate versions of him. I am the type of collector who tries to get a definitive look for heroes and move on. The only exception for me is my Spider-Man shelf with all of his different looks.

McFarlane DC at this time isn't really for you I'd say. He seems to be doing a lot of fun obscure variants on the characters but not too many "definitive" ones. I guess the Lex and Bizarro could be classified as that but I think there are some flaws in how Bizarro usually looks as opposed to the one released in DCMV

neither do mcfarlane figures. the overlay is flexible for a reason. they all have better outward leg range than virtually any ML. mcfarlane figures objectively have better range in their shoulders than ML due to their using a ball joint over a hinge and swivel. mcfarlane figures have better range in the torso and wrists and ankles due to the joints that barely any MLs use. plus toe joints.

And I want to point out I'm not here trying to troll or just shit on McFarlane. They have almost all the articulation that should make for an import tier figure, it's just implemented poorly in most cases. And I say this as someone who is hopeful they'll get it together across the board, because some of their figures that don't have these flaws are fantastic. They're flaws that can easily be fixed if they try just a little.

But given toy dev timelines I wouldn't expect to see huge fixes and adjustments in how they do things for around a year given what I've heard from Scott Nietlich about how far ahead toy developers have figures designed. Might be some minor tweaks they could do.

I do also hear from Anthony that they make mistakes which wouldn't cost them any extra to fix and would improve articulation so if they actually did those it'd be great.

Kinda, the dude repainting her took certain decisions that go "against" the sculpt. Belly button 100% was supposed to be exposed, however she should also have exposed skin on the sides and the back (which the dude decided to paint red). Shoulders should be covered though as there is clear separation in the sculpt, but again the custom went with a more classic bare shoulder look.

Most comic book characters have multiple costumes, drawn by multiple artists. Adding movies, tv shows, animated series, and video games into the mix only makes it more difficult.

Black or blue boots, grey suit, blue or grey trunks, black or yellow bat symbol, black or blue gauntlets and a black or blue cowl attached to a cape.

Pick a color set and that's Batman

Superman is a blue suit, red cape/boots/trunks, yellow belt and the S symbol on his chest.

I had to clean up a bunch of old toys I had out in open bins in my dad's basement. They had a crack behind the stairs and I think water was coming in there. On top of that a pipe had burst. So the closet and crawlspace was full of mold and it started to appear in stuff in the tv room too.
I think I have a couple sealed up in bags that still need cleaning.

Even though I like Lee’s art, my favorite Batman looks have him with long ears. So the Hush version wouldn’t be my definitive. Even the design of his symbol is important.

Hell, even a “classic” looking red and blue Superman could be considered not definitive if the blue isn’t a certain shade.

In this realm of superhero design, definitive is a personal and subjective choice.

Even if you use DC’s own style guides as your definition of definitive, that still changes and is subjective to whoever is calling the shots at the time.

José García-López was the DC style designer from the 70s to the 2000’s (Pic related). Whole DC has updated most of their style guides to a more Jim Lee style,
Lopez’s guides are still used for reference when drawing past characters. DC is literally using two different style guides. Which is the definitive version? Both are, because even internally it’s still subjective.

The Hush look is just Jim Lee's take on the dave Johnson post NML model. It seems generic because they just recently went back to it but in the New 52/ Rebirth era it was starting to become a thing of the past. Its still tied to an era its just that a lot of us are living through that era.

You’re basically saying “Red is the best color”. There is no best color because it’s all subjective to the viewer’s experience.

Even if you say it’s whatever design is the “most Batman”, that’s still subjective to a person’s relationship and understanding of the character. As humans, we can never know what the true platonic ideal Batman looks like. Everything that isn’t that ideal, is just an interpretation and subject to personal taste.

I think we're all getting hung up on the term "definitive" when anon what anon really is talking about is "generic". I'd argue that the Jim Lee and Neal Adams depictions of Batman are probably the most generic and most frequently used for things like merchandising and marketing. When you go to Walmart and go buy a Batman themed birthday supplies for your kid, they're more likely than not, depicting the Jim Lee or Neal Adams style costumes. I have seen stuff that depicts the characters in their New 52 and Rebirth looks on generic merchandise but it was only around the launches of those eras. Probably in an effort to synergize.

I can understand subjectanon's autism a bit. It's weird to me why front on pics of Carnage never show his internal mouth structures, just that generic pink.
