I was able to cancel mine, and lucky me the spoiler Megatron was on sale for black friday at 35 so I even saved some cash in the end.
I'm not too well versed in TF, but how do you manage to juggle preordering and potentially getting screwed with these awful bullshots, or not preordering and possibly missing out?

By recognizing this is the most rereleased mould since fucking Henkei Convoy back in the day. There are more versions of this toy than anything we've seen in years, and it's an insanely mediocre toy in every single regard. Why on earth would you want a $60 version of this thing when you can find countless ER and Siege versions on ebay or shelfwarming across various countries?

Yeah you're right, I forget about all the brand variants of those two. Point still stands, there's a fucking million virtually identical versions of this terrible toy and why someone would ever consider buying the expensive tampo weathering version over the cheap tampo weathering version. Transformers Beast Wars B'Boom

Metallic blue monke

Seems bold to me that Hasbro chose to put out two primate transformers. Humanoid to humanoid sort of has a cap on how interesting it can be. But honestly this guy might have more going on than Primal.

This is the way baboons get around, right? Back straight and limbs all stiff.
Not sure if the little elf ears are accurate either.
Does blue plastic fade? Because when I pulled him out I was immediately struck by that two-tone fur. Funny how it forms a nice line on his side from bottom jaw, down his flank and to his butt cheeks.

In beast mode he's got a trick where if you press on B'Boom's ear his jaw will shoot open. Then you can slide that little dorsal fin to get the his gun in firing position. That's pretty dang action figurey.

No kidding, they're both fantastic. Megatron at a larger size class could fix the backpack, add an extension to the turret and have the shoulder pieces move back so it can have the classic profile, but he's still better than the ER and Siege. The fact Core Megatron has the best head of the 3 is just bizarre (seriously, whoever designs the good heads/faces should just do it for all of them, seeing as some designers are awful at it).

I'll never understand how the literal whos like Spinister and Flywheels that came out during Siege are some of the best toys in recent years, but the main cast dudes like Megatron and Soundwave are such shit. Worse, that they're shit but simple little changes like the Netflix Soundwave made, or simply de-greebling and removing battle damage on Shockwave would make them fantastic.

One thing that's neat about the beast era is how they revisited similar beat modes with different approaches to transformation. The transmetal 2s have much different approaches to at least one set of limbs compared to earlier stuff, for example. Even if they can't all get away from using the beast limbs they at least tried to really change the shape.

I'm pretty sure this is meant to be a mandrill, which is basically a baboon in the same way barq's root beer is a sarsaparilla.
but yeah the all-fours vicious-teeth kinda monkeys are definitely the best choices to keep things distinct froom gorillers.. so it was a good beast mode choice. but the random gold parts were just odd, the gimmicks were stupid, the third mode was dumbballs..

but the vehicle also looks like easily the best H-tank I've ever seen.. it's nice and arched up, the limbs genuinely look like tank pylons..
they probably could have filled the holes in the limbs though if they had flip-out panels that completed the top of the tank, making it into more of a normaltank..

The transformation is a pretty standard Beast Wars stand up affair. But all the extra twisting and rearranging the belly bits have to do to make room for the monkey head really keeps you engaged.

I'm not sure what B'boom's bio says about him but I'll assume he's a hard-ass military man. The snarl and buzzcut give that away that much.
What isn't military is the awkward way he holds his skinny little gun. The tiny pegs just barely holds onto his big monkey thumb.

The big kibble flaps are an eyesore but they come off readily enough if you're tired of looking at them.
Surprise, B'boom carries over all the articulation from beast mode, even gaining a neck swivel.
That's Ball joints at the shoulders, hips and wrists. Really restricted outward range on the first two though.
And swivels at the neck, waist, biceps and thighs. Knees bend about 180.

Wait there's a Netflix *and* and Spoiler Megatron? Actually that's fewer Megatron's than I thought. But that doesn't change the fact that 5/7 of them are grey with varying amounts of battle damage.

He splits himself in half and folds apart to become... this.
It's got more forward facing guns than he had before, so that's something.
It's the dedicated secondary peanut head that really sells it.

for some reason I love when you can tell who matches whom in a toyline or even sometimes just stuff like.. the original digimon cast formed pairs with similarly-structured characteristics.

as I recall, he's an eco-nut, and his missiles are designed to have pure concussive force with no incendiary component that would hurt his beloved jungles.
it's an okay idea. also yeah, I had the identical thought about his gun. It's just weird being so long and thin and held by someone so lanky and thick. on the other hand I kinda liked his kibble, I tended to use the 'third mode' parts in robot mode just as flip-out weapons, something that strangely the TV show did more than the toyline.

Well you're definitely right about these 2. His eyes make him look like he rides the short dino-bus too. I think the wobbly waist might actually be intentional, and the limbs probably come down to your specific copy; mine are solid. I don't know man, I can't hate him; the bot mode looks too good.

So if we’re to get a studio series springer, would it be from the siege mould or a new thing to be more toon accurate? I’m not normally a stickler for toon accuracy but part of me was kind of disappointed with the siege mould because the vehicle modes were really underwhelming

It’s complicated I suppose. Like, it’s the whole legs section, it feels too far down on both modes. In the image I posted, both the back of the car and the tail-rotor section are level with the dark green bit that has the jets and blades on it, giving it a much more streamlined look. On the siege version however, it’s too low down and gives it a really unpleasant look to me about both modes. I know the image here is mistransformed but even when properly transformed, the wheels are all painfully visible in helicopter mode, especially when the back wheels didn’t need to be. The dark green section between his chest and crotch is too small, the tailfins are too small and look rather dinky, and the helicopter bits on the sides look awful. I know it’s in service of an amazing looking robot but neither of his modes feel complete enough to me

I would rather have one of the bulkier guys like Bulkhead or Laser Prime in an Egg Walker/Eggrobo deco for a Sonic crossover. Have him be an Eggman creation that goes rogue like Omega or Gamma.

Sonic's cars are always just boring sportscars and there's no decent plane mold you could use for a Tornado-themed guy. Plus if you're doing a robot in the Sonic universe it seems a waste not to use the series's robot aesthetic.

I would like this if the beast mode arms actually got integrated into the legs. Cannot stand that on any mould, especially when in almost every case you can stuff them inside of the shins. Just horribly screws up the silhouette of bot mode when the shins are wider than the shoulders.

MP is fine, the new Core is great, there's countless Legends class and MP scaled 3p figs in various styles, but not a single actually good CHUG Megatron in Voyager or Leader size. Mine has tolerance issues, the arms are stupidly tight, it's almost impossible to move them, meanwhile, the torso connection is awful and requires too much strength to open up and I know I wasn't the only one with that torso issue. So yes, that's why I said, " my experience".

The one saving grace is Amazon fucked up and sold it to me for 15, still a bitch to move the arms, but I did fix the torso by cutting the tabs (tried shaving bits but the problem was still there, still annoyed that I had to do it) and used some shock fluid for the arms, sadly they're so tight that it wasn't enough.

Back of the head for the ER and Siege are different, ER is also painted which is awful since there's barely enough clearance to transform it, while the Siege adds some extra silver paint that accentuates the blue eyes. But yes, the molded blue is different.

Out of the box; gosh it's gorgeous in-hand! The sculpt, paint apps, and weathering are all so well done.

Articulation is superb too and the joints all feel great. Some of the joints, however, were super tight until you break 'em in for the first time and that leads to one of my few criticisms. The instructions advise you to extend the ankle joint before moving the foot around, to avoid bumping the foot into the leg.

The ankle was super tight the first time I pulled it out, so I was using a good amount of force. What the instructions don't tell you, is that you can pull the foot completely off! There's nothing locking it in place. So the figure nearly went flying when the foot came off unexpectedly, haha.

if you have access to a drill and some thin dowels (chopped up paper clips I guess) you can make a splint that assists in healing and future reinforcement.

Transformers Beast Wars Transmetal Cheetor

I kinda don't remember owning this guy. Not a childhood toy, must have picked him up later in life at some point.

I have to say compared to the other Transmetal toys I've looked at so far Cheetor's chrome has held up remarkably well. It doesn't come of on my fingers or anything.
All of his joints are kind of lose though. Just getting him to stand like this was more effort than it really should have been.

Kitty mode is pretty alright looking. There's something about thicker front half I really like, with its broad shoulders and fat neck. Posability is fine for an early beast former. Front legs rotate at the shoulder and bend at the elbow, the two loosest joints, and the paws are hinged too.
Rear legs are ball jointed and the hip and hinged at the knee, ankle and paw.
The head has a bit of up and down too for some emotion.

I like that transformation, it's just a little bit different from normal.

Cheetor's proportions change between bet cat mode and robot mode. Without the broad shoulders now his hips are a bit too wide and he's stuck with these childbearers.

But how can Cheetor care for his children with these malformed claw hands and skeleton like facial features?
Like, we all know about Cheetor's weird hands but his face is actually lipless and noseless. Just tucked inside a cute kitty helmet.

I'm kind or surprised how little the green plastic bleeds through the yellow paint.

yeah the hands are terrible. but they could probably be redesigned pretty easily into something good.. maybe have the bottom halves of each head-half on a hinge that fold around, creating a top-of-the-arm armor made of what doesn't IMMEDIATELY look like half of a cat's head, and doesn't leave big hollow areas.
Then just nice normal hands under that. he'd be in punchies mode all the time. all the time!

Like a lot of toys of the age Cheetor is mostly ball joints, so he isn't too hampered in articulation.

He's got a swiveling neck and waist too which is a bit of a treat.
Too bad he doesn't have any thigh swivels apart from the little twist you can give his hips.

His whip is almost the exact same as Kingdom Cheetor's, it has the exact same bend in it.

I was just thinking about this looking at Cheetor's hands.. and thinking about the original cheetor, same kinda deal, we have a lot of forearm armor/kibble that extends past the hands in at least one direction, so that hands can be folded away.. I don't think there's any mystery about why push-fists became less popular.. they're less sturdy intrinsically, and you will always FEEL like these fists can't be very strong because you're conscious of the hollow spot behind them and how they retract when pushed.. plus it totally gimps any wrist articulation.

I bought one of these off eBay in the early 2000s, basically as soon as I learned it existed. That one looks great; mine was yellowed out ~15 years ago and is worse now, but he still feels great to transform and the spring-loaded landing gear rules. Good pull.

The 90s were all about environmentalism like with Captain Planet and etc. and Transformers was no exception. Each Beast Wars toy was made with proceeds going to a charity or cause relating to the specific toy's animal, and came with a certificate of authenticity. So the certificate and rubsign (bootleg rubsigns will be nearly impossible to warm up) as well as how the respective animals are doing now (e.g. the dinosaurs are all extinct) are some of the main reasons why Beast Wars figures might be a bit expensive. The only upside is that people hoarded these after seeing G1 stuff go for so much, so there'd probably at least be more supply of Beast Wars figures out there. Hopefully with reissues and more updates from WWF we can get affordable BW figures soon.

With some problems TR version was good it just needed better gray or silver for paint. His Takara version is one of the best Megs out there.
Siege was okay, had a lot problems but was fine, Earthrise fixed its problems with proportions, better placed battle damage and seems chunkier BUT that grey plastic that turnes yellow fast, that "spear", head was good it grows on you.

I'd like to add Inferno to that list. Transformation is by the books, but the figure does what it's supposed to and you probably won't find a better representation of the character outside Masterpiece.
