While He-Man and Skeletor were not always the focus of any given episode in the old cartoon, they were still the glue to hold the show together. We have to take into account that it was a fairly long running episodic series, not a singular story. If the original was just a single episode, or heck, had it been a singular movie whereby the plot centered around Ram Man, then yeah, you could say it wasn't about He-Man and Skeletor. But it wasn't. It was many episodes with the majority focusing on, or at least referencing He-Man and/or Skeletor. To say they're not the focus would be like saying X-Files wasn't about Mulder and Scully, but was more about the fat eating man-monster or midgets. The point is, even if they were not always the main focus in specific episodes, they were still the glue that held things together. Snake-Men? Evil Warriors? They were side or supporting characters/stories for the most part. Important but not integral or pervasive.
