I recently started collecting these and I'm happy that Jakks is so good about rereleasing older figs.

Makes it harder for scalpers to hoard up rare figs

I used to be mainly about collecting the 4” line but now I’m loving the 2.5” one more. I wish they’d rerelease Cranky and Trixie Kong 2.5”. 2 of my biggest misses. You don’t even really see them come up for sale.

Like a year and a half ago, I don't know if they only made a small batch or what but he never shows up anywhere. All searches for a Jakks Iggy on ebay, Mercari, etc just turn up dozens of 4" Iggys but no 2.5"

Ninjis started showing up recently fortunately. I have seen Snifits show up every once in a while, or variants like Snufits. I don't think Pidget has shown up in a Mario game since, although it shows up in the SMB2 stage in Super Smash Bros. Yeah I am the same though, want some older enemy representation. I thought it was cool to see Spike show up more prominently.

Spike's been in NSMB for a while and they seem to still use the series as a main source for merch so it's not too surprising. Personally I want Mouser and Triclyde, though I think that might just be because I remember them being King Koopa's goons way back in the old cartoon. I don't even want a Wart but I want those two.

My only real complaint about these toys is that all the playsets etc. are 2.5" and there's nothing in the 4" scale, but besides that, I'm super happy to just have these toys, and to have them readily available at a mostly affordable price. Way different than back in the day when Mario figures simply weren't a thing...

Also the 2021 calendar is pretty good. Has a lot of powerups, Blue Toad, Ice Luigi (posed), Light(?) Blue Yoshi, Peach, Bullet Bill, Bob-omb, Boo, Goomba, Nabbit, Snowman Mario, Snowman Luigi, Santa Mario, and I think an Ice Bro.

I believe there are legal hang-ups with Doki Doki Panic that have limited Nintendo's interest in SMB2. They will re-release it digitally, but the only characters they ever reuse are ones that they've been using for decades. Not that the Shyguy or Bob-Omb they use now look much like the SMB2 versions. How come my Mario figuart doesn't have any nintendo seal? I see some pictures of the box that have the seal in the middle of the pipe in the bottom left corner and some that don't.
Pic related is what mine looks like (not my pic, but looks identical).
