Thread Question:
So which MOTU/POP characters do you think probably celebrates a holiday alternative to X-mas?
Inbefore Clamp Champ and Sun Man do Kwanza.
Anonymous
Serious question, did MOTU have a big impact in asia? Outside of India and Australia (along with presumably kiwi land) I've not really seen much fanfare for the series. Thats partially why I find the nendo announcement so bizarre. Are nendos for westerners now?
Anonymous
I hated how well this works and I partially blame Revelation.

>>9491492 >So which MOTU/POP characters do you think probably celebrates a holiday alternative to X-mas? The snakemen. Considering they predate everyone on eternia, they likely have some weird psuedo egyptian/psuedo mesopotamian animal worship holiday. Arguably the same could be true for webstor. On an unreleated note, what would you name an owl themed motu character?

I came up with a MOTU guy today and now I really wish i had the skills to make him in physical form. He's called Scarapace nd his lore is that he's an intergalactic bounty hunter hired by one of the main villains, but is actually somewhat honorable so turns on them to aid He-Man. He would have a spring-loaded retractable bolas launcher in his cybernetic arm for an action feature. Yes, i'm so autistic i make ocs...

>>9494624 i can easily see them bungling some of the newer more complex designs, and by extension fucking up their characters. Saurod, Mosquitor, Blast Attak, Twistoid, and Rotar would all go the way of tung lashor and leech at worst and at best the way of clawful, merman, and man-e-faces. Scare Glow is the one character that would be impossible to fuck up because he's literally skeletor with a new outfit. That would save so much time and be so easy for them to adapt that I could even have seen him regularly reappear if the show had gone on for longer.
Speaking of which, for as much as I love the 87 flick, Im still one of those anons who think all the money that went into it would have been better spent reinvigorating the toyline. Filmation Dylamug by no means looks bad, I'd just really like something as abstract and freaky as concept art Dylamug. Really fits the vintage Horde theme of monstrous freaks, robots and aliens.
Anonymous
>>9496777 Guy who posts all the Classic Dyla pics here, and I actually agree with you
Obviously, I love the Filmation version too, I mean, I laid down the cash for the Classics version and shitpost with him constantly.
But I have always had a strong preference for the toy aesthetic myself, and have been dying to have the character as Mark Taylor intended. I also really like how he's actually colorful, with the blues and greens, which is really my only gripe with Filmation, the lack of color. I can't wait to see them side by side in toy form so I can judge which one is ultimately better.
The caveat though is...they need to get the expression gimmick right. The appeal of the Classics one is that he can be happy, angry, worried, leering, etc. If they made him so he could only make scary faces, it'll defeat the purpose and spoil it all.
I think an ideal Mug, though, might be an amalgamation. I'm thinking the tube arms and clamp hands, torso, hips, legs and colors of Mark Taylor with the facial features, two toed feet and vacuum tunes of Filmation

Someone who's not me spent money on the Heroes and Villains Guidebook for the CGI cartoon reports the following: * The Masters are all orphans (well sort of, in Adam's case). While Adam and Krass were adopted by the Tiger Tribe and Duncan was adopted by Kronis, the closest thing Teela has to a dad is... Man-E-Faces, "self-proclaimed King of the Lower Wards." * Other species in Eternia mentioned, only some with specific people as part of it: Avions (Stratos’s race), Leviathaeons (Mer-Man’s race), Pelleezeans (skunk-like race), Widgets (human-like dwarf race), Adreenids (bee-like race), Mossmen (plant race), Arachna (spider-like race), Speleans (bat-like race), Karikoni (crab-like race), Snake Men (supposedly extinct). Stratos is the king of Avion, Mer-Man is the king of Leviathae. * King Hssss (200X spelling) was the ruler of the Snake Men. * Leviathae has been mysteriously blocked from contact for a thousand years, they were originally King Grayskull’s biggest ally against the Snake Men. * The Havoc seeping out of Snake Mountain is starting to seep through the entire Fright Zone.

Well, the first story arc, "Day of the Comet" started July 20, 1986. It starred the Rock People.
"Vengeance of the Viper King" started 10-19-1986 and introduced King Hiss, Sssqueeze, Snake Face and Rio Blast.
"Ninjor Stalks by Night" started 1-26-1987 and introduced Ninjor, Scare Glow, Blast Attack and Extendar. Tyrantisaurus Rex also appears at the end.
"Terror Takes Time" started 5-11-1987 and introduced Mosquitor, Buzzsaw Hordak and the dinosaurs.
"Evil Under the Stars" started 8-24-1987 and introduced Saurod, Blade and Gwildor. Beast Man also gets changed to look like the movie version.
"Attack on Snake Mountain" started 12-7-1987, and that's where Clamp Champ finally got added to the cast. Rotar and Twistoid never show up.
After that, writer Chris Webber just did whatever he wanted even after the new toyline was released for '89, introducing the New Adventures cast after the cartoon debuted.

Honestly filmation clawful's design is malleable enough to do both to equal degrees of success. I've given up on WWEternia, as those pegs haven't had a UPC on them for about 6 months now. Im also starting to ask myself "what is the end goal?".
On the brighter side, I'm finally moving out, so now Internet shopping wont be an issue. On the other hand, it's another bill I'm paying each month. I went quiet for a few days, and I'm going to go quiet again untill something new drops. I'll lurk, but aside from replys to this post and any requests, I'll be gone.

Saw it on tons of stuff whenever I'd put out the sale ad or change prices. Christmas was skeezy.

>>9501343 Based. You got pretty much all the best ones. You're just missing a Skeletor. If you cam get the wave 1 (not the revised version with the vintage head), I'd recommend him.

>>9501332 >It was a show that needed to simplify designs and stay on the cheap, what do you expect? Not the guy you replied to (sorry if I'm putting words in your mouth), but there's a difference between simplifying a design outright changing it. Trap Jaw, Whiplash, Webstor, those are simplification.
The post he was replying to was of examples of Filmation just straight up not following the toy's design, either in a small way (adding MAA mustache or making Moss Man shaggier), or in a big way (wtf are those Monstroids?), or changing the colors (Hordak, Evil-lyn, Faker)
I think that's what his issue is. Simplify, sure, but stick to the actual design of the toy.

Could anyone post a picture of the shoulder hinges on their Mosquitor? Wanting to compare them with the one I just got. They're so damn deep, it's weird.

Thanks; I did want a Skeletor of some description, but I was leaning towards a mix of colours and gimmicks so base Skeletor didn't jump out at me with his lack of a gimmick and shared colouring with Faker. Was looking at maybe the new Terror Claw version or waiting to see what the listed 200X Skeletor is like. That said, just seen that the first version you mentioned is dirt cheap on UK Amazon so I bought one, lmao.
>>9501604 Eh, I'm not in love with any of the Skeletor heads so far, but I find the revised one too scarecrow-like and my brain reads his mouth as being sewn up. The first wave head at least looks like a cackling madman to me.

Quick question for you guys: When it comes to remaining Origins figures, which action features would you be perfectly OK with them NOT including? I ask because no one seems to care that Fisto doesn't have his spring loaded arm, or that Sorceress doesn't have her spring-loaded wings, but on the flipside, they DO care that Stinkor doesn't stink enough and Mosquiotor doesn't have a big enough window. I'm curious as to which ones you think MUST be done, and which ones you'd be fine if they didnt

>>9501925 I love Laser Light Skeletor's design, but if the light-up gimmick comes at the cost of articulation and a backpack no thanks. I'm in it for the head sculpt and the techno-detail. I honestly don't think it's a gimmick they'd be willing to preserve anyway, to be honest. I'm willing to wait for a Masterverse version too, though.

>>9502015 Agreed.
I think the only ones that are optional are Two Bad's arms, Spikor's trident being able to extend, Leech's mouth and Saurod's spark (admittedly I'll be disappointed without that last one, but it isn't a dealbreaker)
Every other character would not be worth buying without their gimmick

No new engineering for the body, and just soft bendy arms that port into the standard torso.
If his wave was 3 simple kitbashes or repaints they might even get away with him as a standard fig.

>>9502397 I don't know why there are people with this belief that Mattel would release Tytus and Megator in the same scale as Andre.
Origins has been really good at staying relatively true to vintage. They sound like they're stretching for reasons to be pessimistic. Even if scaled back, I doubt it'll be under 11 or 12 inches so that they're still twice as tall as Origins figures

>>9502837 Overall, they went with a much taller playset to fit the bulkier 6-7 inch figures, but also made it a lot thinner for a light storage profile.
It retained the flag, gun turret, opening jawbridge, trap door, & weapons wrack of the original. It's missing the throne, elevator, training thingy, and dwell of souls.

>>9502840 It added a hidden treasure room, monster mouth trap, an actual dungeon (even if it's just a fence and gate), Romeo and Juliet balcony, break away dragons teeth, and a bunch of different light and sound features.
I think I prefer the layout of the original playset overall, More floor space on the upper levels, the throne, and 2 big walls, instead of 1 big wall and 2 smaller walls.
However this is the only one I've owned, and I'm happy with it.

Horde characters were made to look cuter or brighter since it was targeted to girls. It's all really simple to see why they changed things. Either to fit a trope or to make things easier or to appeal to a different demographic. They didn't even follow the same origins for He-man from the mini-comics and stuff since it was all just rewritten.
