imo the ones with the least egregious fuck ups are the MMPR team. Yeah the missing paint detail on the regular release green and the mis-sculpted helmets suck but at least they all match. Unlike every other team they managed to put out thus far. I don't get it. How could they fuck up so many small details when they outright own the IP. Can't they just use digital scans of the actual helmets?

It's funny you say that cause I consider the MMPRs to be among the worst. The inaccurate helmets are a much more egregious fuckup to me than paint inconsistencies between teammates. Especially looking at the Metallic Armor figures and seeing how big a differece proper helmets make. And MMPR aren't even all consistent paint wise, as you mention with Green not having torso diamonds, or Zack having gold where the red ring should be on his morpher. There's also the mouth plates, some are fully painted, others don't paint the ridge.

There really is a strange lack of synergy between the various figures, huh. Outside of the T-Rex Zord they all look pretty basic. Making them smaller and combine to form an 7-8" tall Zord for a much cheaper price point seems like it would have made a lot of sense.

Being 1/144 is neat and novel for those with 1/144 Gundam, but otherwise its size just makes it a solitary display piece, and at that price, I can't see many people caring about any other Zords beyond this guy, if even.

It has a bunch of extra detailing, similar to grate thing on chest teeth you're referring to, all over the design. It makes the Megazord look overly busy and very toyish imo. Meanwhile compare it to the SOC >>9496142 which, while it's still it's own thing, has more flat paneling without annoying greebles. $100, this would've been acceptable, but for $165, I'd rather it be more show accurate.

A formal question has yet to be made about it, but just wanted to point out that the Hasbro branch in Mexico has an online store where you can order shit directly from them, and as of weeks ago they no longer sell LC figs, and I'll be damned if they didn't have plenty of stock left.

Mexico is both nostalfag and MMPR country and you'd be hard pressed to stop offering a toyline who is largely trying to appeal nostalgia rather than recent releases

I have the SoC(and the Bandai Legacy, but they're boxed up) and they match so nicely with the Lightning stuff there'll always be a place for it. If Hasbro does the shogun Megazord or Zeo onward I'm all in. But will probably skip this and a Thunderzord/Ninjazord set for now, unless they're really nicely articulated.

I'm not a Power Rangers fan, but this looks pretty good to me. Classic, yet contemporary.

Granted, it seems pretty pricey considering it's probably going to be all plastic. And I assume Power Ranger fans will hate it because this is arguably their first "CHUG" experience. Transformers fans had the bricky G1, which got progressively more articulated and modern over the years. Culminating in the Alternators and then the Masterpieces, which would end up running concurrently with the CHUG.

Whereas Power Ranger fans only had the equivalent of G1, the equivalent of "Action Masters" in non-combining but articulated Megazords from Mattel or the odd SRCs, and then the equivalent of Masterpiece in the SOC. They didn't have years of slowly being modernized. Instead, Power Rangers/Super Sentai more or less stayed at G1 levels and then jumped to MP with the SOC.

So I imagine Power Ranger fans will hate it because a) It's not Mattel b) It's neither retro (old toys) nor high end (SOC). c) People hate change.

greebles for the sake of greebles, its barely even a redesign, if it was a more overt redesign like in the style of the infinitism mazingers it would be less offensive honestly. Its more like the team was afraid people would complain about the price given the simplistic nature of the transformation and natural limitations of individual zords, so they felt they had to just ramp up the surface detail and add some clear plastic so they could say its justified to charge $160 for it.

Love them. My only criticism is the hands/feet could do with a blackwash. I put some nuln oil on mine and it really brings out the detail.

I'm of the opinion that Black Washes are entirely overrated, used too often and rarely corrected post-application, but that may be because I'm a miniature painter. Selective recess shading will definitely improve the feet and hands, but I'll also be painting the nails. Although I'm torn on how I'll paint them. I was thinking of making them a semi-gloss black, but I think a bone colour would be a good fit too. Got any input?

I'm surprised this more "premium" release wasn't built off this thing. The proportions on this thing are so much better despite looking so unfinished. Only the triceratops and sabertooth need to be sized up a little. Use the price bump to to "finish it" aesthetically and in its engineering. It'd be better than current product, which looks like it's been stretched height-wise. They wanted to reach that scale for the sake of marketing but Hasbro didn't actually give them enough money to scale it up properly in all three dimensions. It's got Bayonetta limbs as a result.

The problem is if you want the ability to transform, you can't ever be screen accurate to this particular Megazord look, hence why your pic related is not transformable. Look at the torso, it's way too rectangular when T-Rex and Pteradactyl Zords have large frames. Pteradactyl's shield is a lot larger in transformation scenes than on this body.

The Megazord suit in the Sentai/PR never factored in the transformer look for the suit. At the same time, we were kids when we watched this show, so it's not like we were anal about these kinds of details.

Personally, the Zord toys are a decent compromise at keeping in the spirit of the look while also offering practicality with the transformations.

Gave my King Sphinx's head a new paint job. It doesn't exactly fix the fundamentally flawed sculpt and sort of feels like polishing a turd when you realize how consistently non-uniform the paint apps and depth of detail lines are, but I like how it came out. I detailed up the pauldrons too, but you can't really see it in this pic.

I don't think it makes a difference. None of the diecast parts on the Legacy Megazord add any kind of structual support for the Dragonzord. If anything they make the Mega Dragonzord even more top heavy.

Amazon(Australia) just sent me an email(or rather 4) that wave with the Phantom Ranger in it is not expected to arrive until July next year. A Haslab with Dino Megazord at 350 dollars (maybe even more when you factor that PR is Hasbro's nichest license) seems like a really tough sell, unless you have the ability to offer more and improve over SOC.

The only things I can think of:
- Give the Triceratops and Sabretooth Tiger realistic tank wheels (that actually move); sliding mechanism on the bottom for Tricera when it deploys.
- Literally 0 stickers, paint every damn symbol and colour designs.
- Diecast Metal joints for durability. No need to plaster metal everywhere and make an imbalanced product.
- Articulated fingers in Megazord Mode to make it feel less like a brick that can only hold a sword and shield
- A way to magnetically detach the T-Rex tail for cleaner look on the back of the Zord

And even then, I'm not sure if these things would compel people to spend 350 dollars.

That, and I feel like he could have better arm articulation. Just because his shoulder pads flip up doesn't mean he can't bend at the elbow. It'd also be nice if his sword would be properly painted, but eh, I guess we can get that with the eventual LC Ninjor. Either way, he's still a great-looking figure.

i remember reading that Hasbro basically contracted the first wave via outsourcing, then made an in house team to keep the line going. certainly feels like its been slapdash and directed by ex-interns up til recently.

Hasbro is releasing a Dino Megazord soon. It went up for pre-order a few weeks ago at all the usual places. It's a combiner and they'll most likely eventually make a Dragonzord and Titanus to go with it. However the thing isn't very show accurate. It's proportions weird and it's covered in greebles. It didn't have the superficial detailing on the show.

If you're looking for a more show accurate look there's the Soul of Chogokin line but they're going to run you a pretty penny on the aftermarket. I have them and they're spectacular but I managed to score them on a pretty deep discount. If model kits are more your thing there's also the Super Minipla kits. They're a smaller scale and are models so they'll need to be assembled but people say wonderful things about them. Sadly they go for about as much as the SoC retailed for now. The last option, and probably most affordable, are the Legacy zords Bandai of America did. The Megazord is just a remold of the original toy from 95 with new stickers but the Dragonzord and Titanus are all new molds and have painted detailing. They're decent and still go for a high price on the aftermarket but they'll be cheaper than the other options.

Best bet is probably just to wait on Hasbro to release their take.

It's essentially the same toy as the BoA one. They just tweaked a few things and called it a day. I don't think many people were too pleased with that and couldn't justify the $300 price tag. It didn't really sell that well and went for HEAVY discount like a year or two ago. I considered getting it at the low price but even then couldn't really justify it to myself since I display my Megazord and Dragonzord seperately. I'd take a few combined Ultrazord shots and then it would get stored in a closet somewhere.

Either the original toys or the Super Minipla. Both are solid in Ultrazord mode. Legacy Dragonzord is way too heavy, to the point Bandai included knee braces for the Megazord with Legacy Titanus, which looks bad and I still wouldn't trust leaving it combined like that for very long. Not sure about the Chogokin, but I've heard it's also very heavy so I'd be reluctant to leave the Dragonzord combined wih the Megazord, even if the Megazord is better engineered for it. The plus side of the Super Minipla is it's small footprint, and you can display it squaring off against the old 5" monsters. Lightning Goldar would probably work too, but the Lightning monsters would look too big.

I don’t mind that they’re making comics with new versions of rangers from the show but I’ll be pretty bummed if they give us comic versions of these rangers as toys, over show versions.
That being said, we haven’t seen a ton of stuff from the comics. No solar rangers, no omega rangers, etc. I’ll be upset if they actually go through with it for toys but I’d be surprised if they did.

To be fair, when they switched from Kim to Kat they did use a taller suit actor for MMPR Pink. Kat was also taller in US Zeo/Turbo footage, but obviously when they used Sentai footage she reverted to a shorter height. Compare Pink to Yellow here.
