Commander Class Sentinel Prime is probably the way to go, that way he can have all the guns, sword, armor, alt-modes and racial hostility needed for a Sentinel Prime.

The Impactor style gladiator helmet plus the multi-layered faceplate are both so fucking cool. It's infuriating that they could've done this in TR with the weird leader class helmets gimmick they were pushing, but instead we just get a Sixshot with a scuffed neckjoint and an Overlord who isn't big enough.

Remember that he also has that hideous partsforming going on. The old Henkei/Gen one is indeed dated, but it's fun as fuck and I really don't think the new one does anything that much more exciting. I'd honestly much rather have a good legends scaled one that isn't a Megatron repaint, personally. Or a leader sized FoC bruiser style one.

The vent/panel thing? I've mixed feelings about it, apparently you can toss it, but that's a pretty big weak point... yet it's such a weird-ass accessory for him to have, shields are for cowards- k I love Wreck-Gar so nvm.

I'm a sucker for legends-class buddies, and I'm bummed out at best boy Hot Rod's core class fig looking not-so-great. Unsure how to feel about giga-tanks, the only big tanks for me I have are Overlord and siege Megs, the latter does the job I suppose, but ehh... All could be forgiven if he had a head as good as the core class figure. I've been liking knights and now I'm in a tank mood as well, both are fun. Bludgeon when!

Then he folds up perfectly into his tank mode. Now you don't need the shield but it does hold together the front halves a bit more snugly. A few copies may require it as it would otherwise be very loose so it's luck of the draw on that. The way his feet/shins transform into the entire front of of the tank is great.

It's still greasy and I don't like it. That and like I said, I don't need or want him at that size. He's towering over my other generations minibots and the fact that we got basically perfect Cosmos, Seaspray and Powerglide but only deluxe sized Warpath is forever gonna piss me off.

I mean the modern deluxe minibots sre meant to all be smaller but still of different sizes. Huffer, Warpath and Cliffjumper are all differently sized but are well articulated and look fantastic, though the parts forming aspect on Cliffjumper is an actual issue but then again, they are releasing a new repaint of him in buzzworthy so it could be worth picking up after Christmas

Magnaboss is a part of the ENGLISH version of the Maximal high council/Maximal elders, in japanese BW, Magnaboss II (yes i'm calling him like that) is another character (much like how Optimus Prime isnt Ginrai except for the appearance), although i'm not sure which Magnaboss are you referring

You are confused my brotha.. Blue Big Convoy exists in 2 timelines, the Precursor World (which predates their world) where it was started by Ehobby and most of the Generation selects manga takes places AND the G1 World (this name sucks but hey...) where everything published in Japanese G1, JBW, Car Robots and others mangas takes place

To prove my point let's see who Big Convoy is really:

Precursor Blue Big Convoy:
Leader of the Blue Order and bearer of the A Matrix, he died when the Straxus twins turned on the Blue Order but he was able to transfer his in his Sword.

Regular Blue Big Convoy (see pic releated):
Father of Big Convoy (called Big Junior in the tie-in manga), he was a member of the Convoy Council but he wasnt involved in it and denied every meeting/event they made, eventually he died in a conflit against the Blendtrons which led to Big Junior becoming Big Convoy etc...

Also takes not that everyone in the G1 World doesnt have the memories of the Precursor World, only Primus, Primacron (and maybe Unicron) retain them

I have a five year old who's interest has been perked after seeing some of the Predacons/Maximals at Target and now hr is asking about Transformers. It honestly had been so long since I paid any heed to the franchise. Whats the general consensus on this War for Cybertron Netflix trilogy? And would these toys even be appropriate for his age with the transformations?

The current trilogy is over. The last wave of toys just hit the shelves, and the show is definitely not for little kids.
Transformers cyberverse just uploaded their tv finale to youtube too, so those toys are ending.
The cyberverse toys are definitely designed for the 5 year old audience, and the Transformers kingdom core class is too.
Walmart has the 90s beast wars toys being reissued which are far more targeted towards little kids.
Also, there's transformers RED which are just posable action figures of the tfs robot modes.
We're all waiting for the next tv show to be announced, it should be in the next 3 months.

While it doesn't have as many animals, the Rescue bots shows were pretty good for a show aimed at a very young audience. Cyberverse isn't too bad, but they start killing characters later on and depending on the kid, that might scare them too much.

BW Reissue Primal is great fun, definitely recommend even if he’s a bit pricey.

I will ALWAYS shill for SS86 Grimlock and Kingdom Cyclonus, as they have some of the best handfeel of recent figures.

The Cyberverse Deluxes (not Warriors) are also pretty good, though probably skip Grimlock and Thunderhowl from loose beast ball joints and Arcee for being… well Arcee.

It's not too bad in Siege Prime's case, the ER molds is almost entirely different, the one piece that's blatantly reused are the head and the front of the legs and ankles. That being said, I should have waited with Cliff, at least I got him at a discount, Voks Bee for 10, and Hubcap for 15 (also got the WC Bee but that was a gift).

I will say I actually like the jet mode. Up until I got Red Wing, I had never owned any Seeker of any kind ever (though one of my brothers had the original Starscream when we were little, so I knew what the mold looked like). I do know from pictures of previous Seekers over the years that the general method of transformation for these guys usually just has the bot mode blatantly hanging off from the bottom. These guys kinda make the effort to hide that - the arms bend and tuck into the chest cavity, the shins split open and retract on themselves to hide the thighs, and the head dislocates entirely and moves further up along the nosecone. It's not perfect, but it does a much better job of hiding the bot mode than the Siege mold does. Also, it loses points for not having any landing gear.

Bot mode is pretty disappointing, though - I can see where all the hate comes from. While the Siege Seekers had both wrist rotation and hip swivels, these guys are a clear step backwards despite being a later mold, lacking both. What the hell happened there? I do like that they don't pull the whole 'fake cockpit on the chest' thing that Siege did, but the nosecone hanging off the back isn't really pleasant to look at. While I loved Red Wing's cocky smirk and don't mind the neutral face shared by the Rainmakers and Thundercracker, Skywarp's face is...unique, to say the least. The render on the back of the box show he's supposed to be in the middle of shouting/yelling/screaming out some kind of menacing battlecry, his actual look in-hand is one of abject terror. It's odd, but makes for a nice 'Oh SHIT!' reaction

Well, the mold certainly could have used a bit more love, especially in the articulation department. Still, I knew what I was getting into when I ordered them, having read other people's reviews and thoughts on them here; I'm just happy to finally have a full Seeker squadron of my own for the first time ever. I just need my Coronation Starscream to show up so that I'll have their leader; also waiting on 'Sandstorm' (desert deco Ramjet) and G2 Ramjet, who both should be showing up with Draculus any time now.

Yes and also yes. There's not a lot of stuff for him in that proper look and what there is gets scalped to hell especially as stock lowers. Get him now if it's coming from a reputable source. He's only going to go up.

Earthrise was genuinely the worst I think I've ever seen. Bee and Cliffjumper, Ironhide and Rachet, Arcee, both Megatrons, it just fucking sucks. Even moreso with stuff like Cliff where the solution was just a single stalk that can be added for basically no cost. Like we have so many great figures lately but then here comes the normalization of taking off the entire alt mode and putting it to the side. There's also the face flaps that form the thighs in raptor mode. Be sure to grab them properly by the hinge when moving, and don't force them if it wont budge.

If you try tabbing the face flap to the other flap for raptor mode and it comes undone even if the leg is positioned correctly, you'll have to live with it since forcing it beyond that will stress that area. Not all copies have this problem, but be careful.

He actually got me back into it. I used to watch Beast Wars as a young lady. And yeah the school nerd turned the lead cheerleader and physical trainer into a bot-nut. The toys are just so cool. He got our kids into it too.
My personal favorite is Dinobot, I was telling the anon to get it with the Dinobot questions, his figures are hell to get.
I come to 4chan and these threads mostly to lurk and see info because they really are the best place to have a discussion most of the time whenever I'm having that itch. Most forums are terrible and most youtube "reviewers" like to keep appearances up with what they're reviewing for.

The main problem is that they copied Siege's split vehicle swivel for the torso transformation, but for it to look accurate, the bumper area (or what's left of it) should be facing dead on, not lower at an angle. That might have been fixed had it been an entirely new mold that didn't share engineering with Siege, but doing it like this makes it inaccurate and makes him his torso look off/fat.

I'm super rusty on my lore, I know characters got new bodies a few times, but how many drastically changed. Cars were still cars and planes were still planes.
The only one I can think of is when Megatron was a bomber briefly. And the required Shockwave to completely rebuild him. Major invasive surgery seems to be standard in changing altmodes.

From what we see they alter almost the entire frame. Even other cases we have characters getting entirely new bodies like it's no big deal, it was Wheeljack but still, given enough time even less gifted Cybertronians would still pull it off. Sort of related, the HOS robots all went from being Dinosaurs to vehicles, while they got brain problems (thanks to Shockwave) it didn't seem to impact their bodies. Issues with body alterations was an interesting idea, but it wasn't explored well enough for me to buy it.

IDW's original idea was that they could hop in a CR chamber and change into whatever. The Dinobots use them to change into organic dinosaurs a la Beast Wars. This was a major plot point in Maximum Dinobots, where Grimlock's ship is destroyed and he's stranded without a CR chamber to turn into something more practical.
Later IDW just kind of ignores all of this, and they even retcon it that the Dinobots had beast modes long before they followed Shockwave to Earth.

I would say the best must-get kingdom beast wars guys are megatron, dinobot, tigatron, blackarachnia, and airazor (just to see the incredible engineering beauty of those wings)

BA's incredible - it's really amazing how well they were able to make her impossible show transformation actually work. Tigatron is basically Cheetor but better, so nothing too special there; he comes with the right weapon this time. Dinobot's okay-ish - all of the love went into his bot mode, so the dino mode is a little derpy, but his robot is about as show-accurate as anyone can ask for. Scorponok is complete shit; stay away from him.
If I had to recommend one Kingdom figure to you, it would be Beast Megatron. He (and the other two characters that share the mold, T-Wrecks and Tyrannocon Rex) is absolutely the best BW figure to come out of that line, period; his articulation in beast mode makes him a great T-Rex toy in general, and his bot mode nails the look perfectly. He's a must-get if you see him.

Just a heads up - Megs was available everywhere and should be the easiest to find, but T-Wrex (the red one) was a Red Card exclusive from Target, while Tyrannocon Rex is part of a two-pack Amazon/Hasbro Pulse exclusive that was a Jurassic Park crossover; she's (yes, 'Rexy' is a girl using Megatron's body. Weird, but it works) definitely the priciest of the three, going for around $100 USD.

So, I picked up a couple of the voyager sized Authentics for 10 bucks a pop
Shockwave (because of that anon posting it in the previous thread) and Soundwave.
Now, shockwave is a lot more complex (15 steps) and a hell of a better figure, but he's got some flaws. I think at some point in the design they decided to switch from the backpack+wings being on a swivel joint to being removable. With that, they decided to make his power cord stuck onto the backpack, which limits the ability to look like his box art (which has the backpack upside down)
this might also have been a cost saving measure for the paint apps, as this way (and using him in the strange flight mode used on the box) they only had to paint one side of his wings.

But flip him over, and it's instantly clear how it was designed. All the hollow spaces on the whole figure can all face down, and he looks A LOT like fall of cybertron shockwave. If you don't like that, and want to go with something closer to what his box shows, his waist DOES swivel, so you can chose which side of the legs are up (the side with the covered thighs that angle down, or exposed thighs that angle up)

As for Soundwave, he's a BIG boy. But probably more lightweight than shockwave. He's about as tall as Kingdom Galvatron, where shockwave is closer to the WFC trilogy megatron.
His legs are pretty long compared to his arms, it's my biggest gripe. They could have easily fixed it by having his backpack be 1/2"longer and his legs be 1/2" shorter. But his feet are HIGHLY poseable due to being on a ball joint
All in all they reminded me a lot of the transformers of my youth. Sure they've got hollow spots in robot mode, and the plastic quality is obviously lower, but honestly I'd pay an extra 5 bucks for these guys to have a nice paint job.

I've had fantastic luck with Walmart exclusives. I've seen every figure in the netflix line except for the spoiler packs. Of those, I have Impactor, Bumblebee, Soundwave, Quintesson Drone, Cheetor, and Megatron wave 1. I've seen all the vintage Beast Wars reissues. But I have weird luck with this Walmart for regular figures. Nothing below deluxe, and nothing above Voyager(unless it's a weird exception like Netflix $40 voyagers and Beast Wars reissue Ultra class). But all the other nearby Walmarts and Targets make up for that with great stock. I am truly grateful.

the voyagers can get a little weird.. for the maximal let's say a secretary bird combined with a pangolin, so it can be weird and lanky and kinda badass. The pred could be.. a crab mixed with a tortoise. kind of a relatively chill old guy but who won't hesitate to pinch people who say something stupid, like an old chinese guy kinda dude.

for leaders that gets tricky, my personal favorite critter has always been a lion with eagle wings and hind legs, but leadery as that is, it steps on so many fuzor toes. Might be better for a maximal fuzor leader to be some kind of.. humpback whale camel hybrid. just for the hump gag? but that isn't very vicious.. maybe more like a mandrill with the vicious toothy head of a sperm whale (and throw in extra upper-jaw teeth from the mandrill) and the whale's tail and dorsal fin, but done up in cool mandrill colors..
and the pred leader should get really creative, like he's half solifugid half gecko. just all spindly and climby.. but that's a little wacky for a leader, maybe just.. one of those shield-ant things, mixed with those chameleons that are already basically a triceratops.. so he's this hard-bitin' commando predacon that charges in and takes command in every situation.

Got my Skids and Reboost today. These are definitely better than most modern MPs. While most MPs include useless shit for accessories, Reboost does a good job of including a lot of useful accessories, with the pilot being a nice bonus, and it manages to keep the price under control. Skids himself, though, only includes one of the guns Reboost came with and one colored gun.

Why on earth would Skids not include the full range of equipment? It can't be because of cost because both Skids and Reboost cost the same amount.

Having both, I'd say get GS Galvatron. Grindor has an annoying transformation and the alt mode doesn't fully tab together, but the altmode is worth it. He's pretty good. He's also quite large. Galvatron has way more articulation, he's not even near as floppy, and he has an easier transformation. I generally like Galvtron's robot mode a little more.

X-Brawn being white instead of silver is relatively minor compared to one of the other two being off.
Actually I bought him loose, went back to my room, bought Side Burn loose, and went back to my room. And ony after going back for the third time did I realize I now needed a Prowl.

I haven't messed with the three of them yet so right now I can say that Slugslinger is the surprise winner. His transformation is just so extra.

I need a DECENT toy for Prime Shockwave. I need some recommendations badly. I absolutely love his Prime interpretation especially his Cybertronian tank form, but mostly I just want BIG CANNON ARM. I just love the design so much

Weapons can be cool, but they aren't neccesarily the judge of a figure's quality. And again, this figure has some of the worst proportions in all of G2, and quite possibly the 90's. Besides, Laser Prime has a gun, a sword, and an entire tanker full of weapons.

Seriously, I can just give Laser Prime those weapons. Hero Optimus Prime doesn't have as good colorscheme, proportions, features, design, or alt mode as Laser Prime. The only little thing to make me reconsider is the absolutely bitching cancelled repaint.

So you're suggesting something kind of like that game ARMS where he has some big cool segmented arms with bug dealies on the ends? I could get behind that. That would also maybe justify him being a bit longer and designed as a proper centipede (though then you lose the curling-up aspect) or millipede (then you lose the jaws and the cool rear leggy spike things) instead of both of them hybridized with a pillbug (and the only way one of those would ever be cool would be as one of the giant deep-sea varieties with the wicked little claws)

I wonder.. My brain is asking itself now the best way to make satisfyingly folded segmented arms. I guess you'd want them to split down the middle and be relatively hollow in beast mode (KIND OF like real life? it's concave under there) so that the new folded in half segments would have a decently even cross-section.. and then they'd have to be attached via joints to a central jointed piece that would function as the arm's basic skeleton and the attachment point for articulation. But... you'd need to do some crazy parts-rotating or else you'd be left with a situation where the joints are all on the outside of the arms (one look at guys like optimus primal tells you why that's a bad idea, you need them on the INSIDE of the joint like he does)

You really want to act like it's been a great time for official transformers when we've gotten a several stinkers, and even the good ones often have some flaw holding them back? Almost all of Siege had shitty battle damage, several face sculpts have looked off, transparent plastic has been used in awful places, some figures have horrendous use of paint, and several figures were given accessories either no one wanted or were poor quality in order to sell them at a higher price point. The only reason you're saying it's been so good recently is because it's previously been much worse, but that doesn't make the current output great. It just makes it better than before.

Years ago I bought a custom off ebay that somebody made from this mold, they turned it into Brawl and I paid only a few bucks for it. It's not great, but I like it. I'm not sure why I bought it but I don't regret it.

More than likely goanon reported the thread himself and the responding mod/janitor just deleted it without really investigating. Remember, last time he cause trouble we actually got a mod to acknowledge his threads weren't valid and leave the true thread up. We just have to get their attention when he pulls this shit, because a straight report is just gonna get one of the lazy janitors to do the minimum amount of work.

Why are "early" threads in and of themselves a bad thing? The only argument I've heard put forth is that it creates too many of the same thread...which is exactly what the antigoanon brigade is doing by making a """proper""" thread whenever they don't like the new thread for whatever reason.
