Can we get a lightsaber thread going?

Want to start a new collection but this shit is pretty overwhelming and I have zero Idea where to start, also if you have any cool sabers post them bros.

Been in this hobby since 2006. Here's some pointers...

Stay the hell away from UltraSabers, Saberforge [unless it's an empty], and DXsabers.

Korbanth, Vader's Vault, KR Sabers, and pachstore are good places to shop. Bear in mind, if you want a fully loaded lightsaber with smooth swing, neopixel blade, and a nice design it'll probably be $500+.

Pictured is my Vader's Vault Vanquish, fully loaded, custom powdercoat scheme. Had to sell it to cover engine work on my car, unfortunately.

If you want to learn more - The Vault: A Custom Lightsaber Community on FaceBook is a good place to learn. FX-Sabers.com and the forum is also a good place, if not as active.

Let me know if you have any more questions - I'll be happy to try and answer.

Yeah, it sucked. But time moves on - they're just hella expensive flashlights with gimmicky lights and sound.

I've owned a few unique, one-of-one pieces throughout the years. I can't find pictures of one, but here's one of my favorites. The Lightfoil by Darth Alice Sabers. Bought it in 2013 I believe - was a very fun saber to handle, if not a little small for my Gorilla Hands.

I've also owned a one-of-one lightsaber rapier by eastern57, a crossguard that was machined and put together a day after the trailer for The Force Awakens came out, and then three Ascends from Genesis Custom Sabers. I've had two sabers from Vader's Vault, who I highly, highly, highly recommend. And I started out buying UltraSabers, back when they were owned by the OG owners. They've since gone WAY downhill. "Best soundboard on the market" my ass.

Right now, I'm having a Empire Strikes Back Luke saber aka the Graflex installed as a stunt saber, LED only no sound no nothing so I can use it as a signal lantern at work, haha.

The owner is one colorful individual, the installs they do are questionable, customer service is ass, and turn around time is horrible. But empty hilts for others to install aren't bad - but they sell out quick.

But he doesn't hold a candle to DXSabers - they scam, lie, and try to play the "pity me" game when people call them out for not getting their order PAST A YEAR LATER WITH NO COMMUNICATION.

UltraSabers is ran by a guy who won't pay his employees good money, all the while he brags about driving a Ferrari/Lambo or some shit like that. Their installs are total ass, their hilts are the size of XL dragon dildos, and their tech is easily 5 years behind everyone else, no matter how much the guy boasts "We have the best tech in the business." They also buy up every single ad space they can so they show up first in any search of a competing lightsaber maker.

Have a few of their hilts i got through grab bags on a whim a time or two and can confirm the points about Ultrasabers.
Stunt models are affordable, kinda (60 and up) They have no sound, massive hilts (seriously one of them i got was over 12 inches long and insanely wide) and the hilts themselves are as basic as they come. And their basic sound sabers start at like 160 USD and skyrocket as you add options.
If you want a bottom barrel saber better than these for a similar price of an Ultrasabers decent stunt hilt i'd go to etsy and get'em there.
The 3 i got there (2 from Aegisabers and one from Spacesabers) have RGB, multiple sound fonts, Full internal chassis for the electronics, flash on clash, blaster deflect, blade lock, and a simulated smooth swing that, while nowhere near as good as a proffieboard, are pretty nice for not paying over 120 for any of them. They also carry sabers with proffieboard and neopixle blades.
Spacesabers is also a working partner with LGT Sabers.

Kyber makes sabers intended for sparing, I have one, they're really nice, they have a couple different hilt designs, and a wide variety of colors to pick from. Plus they can be linked together to make a double saber. They're really good for a relatively cheap non-toy grade saber.

Anon from the start of the thread that gave pointers here. Thought I'd stop by and give some more info to those who are curious.

Soundboards - the big two are the Crystal Focus X (aka the Crystal Focus 10) and Proffieboard v2.22.

Crystal Focus X:
Smooth Swing
Infinite sound fonts
Infinite color mixing
Ability to configure great effects with a neopixel setup
Can play music underneath the lightsaber sounds, blade can be configured to flash and light up according to volume
Ignition, blade, blaster block, lockup, stab, drag, and deactivation effects are changeable and customizable to an extent
Small learning curve, once you get the hang of it you can configure new blade styles and stuff easily.
Smoothswing
Ability to change colors/effects on the fly using button combos
-Not as customizable as Proffieboard, but the creator of the Crystal Focus is a veteran and one of the "founding people" of the custom saber community, and is updating the firmware often.

Proffieboard v2.2:
INSANELY CUSTOMIZABLE. You can program any and all effects to do whatever the hell you want.
Infinite soundfonts
Plays music
Smoothswing
Infinite color mixing
Ability to change blade effects on the fly using button combos or a gesture setup
-Hard to get into, steep learning curve. Not really new-user friendly at the moment, but it's better than when Proffieboard was brand new. If you know how to code, you can make some cool shit. There are guides out there to help you get into editing and customizing.

Other boards:
Pico Crumble
Golden Harvest
Asteria
There's a few others but I can't remember them lmao.

A fully loaded neopixel, CFX or Proffie installed saber can be found for ~$500, if you have patience. Extravagant, insanely customized builds are usually $1500+. Pictured is a Vader's Vault Promethean.

If you have experience soldering, you can easily buy an empty hilt, buy a 3d printed chassis, get a soundboard of your choice and the other parts and build it yourself.

And here's a picture of one of the MOST expensive custom sabers I've ever seen. Only 10 or so were made, made by a well respected and veteran custom sabersmith. Last one I saw sell this year was for $8-10,000. Some sabers with insane inner metal cores, spinning crystals, LED lights and such can go for ~$4500. As for me, that's tooooo much lol. The most I spent was $2,000 on a custom saber.

And another thing to add - if you know how to do audio work, you could make your own lightsaber soundfonts. I once made a Carl Sagan/Cosmos soundfont, shit was cash. And hilarious.

got my first saber back in march through sabertrio. got lucky too since they were only selling like 200 something of them in a small time frame because of the chip shortages and stuff.
i love it, though kinda regretting not getting a light up button but whatever.
never really been a fan of getting replicas of characters lightsabers. ive always liked unique ones more.

i really want to autistically start to learn tricks with these but i want to practice with a slightly less expensive saber but not super cheap like the toy ones.
i was told pachstore sold really cheap but good stuntsabers but i guess they never get restocked.

There's a lot of small shops out there, and a good amount of people who build and do installs on the side.

A few interesting tidbits from the custom lightsaber community history...

One of the veteran creators, known as Yoda who does metal cores for lightsabers, helped Master Replicas design their Yoda replica and a few others.

Romans Props supplied Graflex's and other parts to the Sequel Trilogy.

My first lightsaber was the Ep III Obi Wan Master Replicas lightsaber, followed by Ep IV Vader.

Plecter Labs, who make the Crystal Focus, also makes soundboards for other purposes, like blaster rifle boards/etc.

That's the whole reason some of us opt for RGB sabers instead of Neopixle, far less expensive and the replacement blades are available pretty much anywhere you get the sabers. That's really the one place Ultrasabers actually is pretty good is their blades.

I own 3 ultrasabers. But I never bought them from the website. I hunt them down on offer up and pick them up on the cheap. That being said, they are generic model hilts.

The only one that is really worth anything is the colour changing saber.

I keep hearing people say Sabertio sabers have the best sound due to the combo of good soundcard, speaker, and especially the extra space they leave in the hilt for resonance which does wonders for the bass.

I have a Genesis Custom Sabers ascend model which has equivalent electronics and honestly I think is perfect in every way, but I can't help but think how the sound would be if there was just a little more resonance

Yea if you do the Build Your Own you get a 6 Font profile and RGB by default?
I think I paid extra for my 9 Font one and the sturdy blade

Recently in the saber hobby a bunch of Chinese manufacturers started pumping the same saber parts into the market and there are countless distributers now when before there was maybe 1 or 2 big ones and a bunch more niche. They are all over Amazon too with different seller names.

Yea my Roommate got an extended hilt with the NeoPixel so it does that like "growing" LED effect
His is supposed to have Clash and doesn't seem to wanna work well
Meanwhile mine if I like "crank" turn it in my hand it does the clash effect, Well enough that I can spam it and have seizure effect lol

Its too bad Saberforge uses inferior electronics for the most part. Its not a bad idea to order empty hilts from them and have well known installers do a custom job for you. Or of course order the electronics yourself if you are confident.
