>>9512390 The full lore, which is both about the toyline and drama over the toyline:
The character was created by a popular fan customizer named Joe Amato, who's a big deal in the MOTU fandom message boards. Scott Nietlich, who was the brand manager in charge of MOTU Classics made a figure based on some MOTU concept art and named the figure after the popular fan coined name for the concept character, not knowing that Amato possibly invented the fan name for this concept character. Scott then apologized to Amato and said he should get credit for the name, but it just never ended up happening since Amato was just a fan and never worked for Mattel, but Amato stayed friends with Scott afterwords.
Fast-forward, and as a Power-Con exclusive the team in charge of Origins decides to make a figure based on the popular fan OC character concept, known as Copy Cat, who was possibly created by Joe Amato, although the idea of Faker having a version of Battle-Cat isn't very original, but the name and idea together are officially credited to him. The team however makes a new, more original name that they can copyright and that Mattel can own: Dupli-Cat. Then a youtuber and his friends who were already upset at Scott Nietlich for making videos disagreeing with them about toy production, befriended Amato and tried to get Amato to talk shit about Scott, by accusing Scott of some how having input on the Origins line and accusing Scott of once again stealing a fan character from Amato. This youtuber even put out a convoluted attack video on Scott, ranting against him, and brought up Copy Cat, implying that Scott some how got Mattel to steal the character.
In response Scott ended up BTFO the youtuber and his friends in a series of videos an a livestream debate, prompting the youtuber to make a depressing sad patreon video where he says how he has no real friends, and attacking Joe Amato, saying how he deserves to have his characters stolen for not backing him up against Scott.

>>9513468 (Aside from the 4 Happy Meal toys) these are all the 200X items I have.
The top 3 are the only ones I got one way or another for full price. Teela actually came packed with a VHS tape.
The rest in the bottom pic and the castle came from a KB Toys liquidator outlet. I think the figures were $4.88, Battle Cat was $7-$9, and the castle was $19.99.

Although I do wonder what kind of a paint deco a retail spacesuit would even have. The colours on the original illustration are up to debate anyway, the orange parts could just be a reflection of light and the whole thing's supposed to be chrome/silver.

This seems to be the case because waves 7 and 8 only showed up at Walmarts with nearby coastal/major distribution centers. Probably just figured there's no point in properly stocking the final waves of an already-limited toyline not many people know of. Plus every WM I've gone into since March has entirely lacked pegs for the line.
Anonymous
>>9513904 This is just proof of taste being subjective, because the Mysteries of Grayskull is easily my favorite set of the 3. Granted I got mine for $30 off Mattel and the other two at the inflated BBTS price, but $30 got me a pretty rad display/effect piece(although the Spirit of Grayskull color choice is debatable), an accessory for the castle, and probably my favorite Origins figure to date. Spaceman is rad as hell, luckily mine had fine knees, but the whole set feels like a homerun to me.
I still really love the other two, but the value just isn't there nearly as much.
Anonymous
>>9514904 I dunno man. I disagree. $30 + shipping for a chance at a space suit that might have shitty knees and two flawed accessories.
How would you feel if your space man had knee problems?
Anonymous
>>9515016 For $30? I'm stoked. If I paid over $100 for one on the aftermarket? Less stoked. I personally like the accessories and I think they compliment the castle nicely, the dungeon even works well as its own little display piece.
Far as the knee issue is concerned, that is something I can fix in two minutes, done that with plenty of figures. Leo Faker initially could not hold his Havoc staff for shit and my Crimson Horde Trooper was a bit loose at the knees and wrist(only when holding his weapon), but hot water and nail polish or pledge fixed those issues. I know I shouldn't have to fix those problems, but they're such easy cheap or free fixes that I'm not bothered.
I still think the Mysteries set is easily the strongest of the three and has the best value(non scalper price). After paying around $310 for the Horde set and Dupli-Cat from BBTS, I just feel like Mysteries did the most for me. That dude and Grizzlor are my favorites of this year.

I'll still probably buy retail Grizzlor anyway, because the lighter brown will probably look better, but for real, Grizzlor is easily in my top five new molds for 2021.

I guess its cool that you are so easy going but it seems insane to me that you paid $30 + shipping for toys that you admit all had quality control issues. Plus $310 for the other sets that also had issues.
>I know I shouldn't have to fix those problems You shouldn't. Mattel didn't even measure the dungeon piece to make sure it fit.

>>9515094 We have very similar top five lists, but substitute Tri-Klops for Spaceman and Buzz-Off for Horde Trooper. But that is subject to change, my girlfriend is holding wave 7 hostage til Christmas. Which Tri-Klops makes your top 5? That's a very solid list.
I'm definitely getting standard Grizzlor too, also because I do play around with these and I'm paranoid about his fuzz coming off over time with use. I am really digging how the Horde is coming together as a team, 2022 should be a good year.
>>9515123 Dungeon grate could have been measured better for sure, and I can see how the spirit color has put some people off. I just personally really like the set. $30 with very minimal issues isn't heartbreaking to me, especially when the set is priced as a basic Origins with some big accessories and sweet packaging. I was a bit more peeved with the Horde set, but again, loose joints is such an easy fix. Now if it were issues like Wave 2 Trap Jaw had or Scareglows joints breaking at the peg, I'd definitely be less forgiving.
I could probably be harder on Mattel for the loose joints, but nothing is broken and Origins are fun toys, not high end adult collectibles with exploding joints. I still think the Horde set and Dupli-Cat were way overpriced and probably why I don't like them as much, but I'm still happy to have them.

Around two drops on the back of the knees (if you overdo it, it'll just pool and spill everywhere) and work it through by moving the joint back and forth, mopping up any that seeps through the front of the knee.

Rattlor, definitely.
But Sssqueeze is just "long arms", Snake Face has essentially the same gimmick as Mantenna (who leaks showed selling at basic price point), King Hiss is basically glorified removable armor, and Tung Lashor is not complex or complicated either. Only Rattlor has an internal mechanism to justify it.
I don't know why people still have this "new tooling = deluxe" hang up when the Horde does the same thing and we already know they're getting standard releases. Deluxes are obviously based on mechanisms, not tooling. Why do you think Clamp Champ got a deluxe? I have a Ram-man and Roboto, Goldberg and Kane won't add much new. Now, if more of the figures were like Finn Balor or Fiend I might be singing a different tune, he seems pretty unique.
I will say some of them have a couple of neat aspects. I like that Sgt Slaughter has sunglasses I could probably use on actual He-man figures, but for the most part, I'd only even consider most of them just to get accessories and I can't justify buying a figure I don't want just to sunglasses or a hammer.

Ok, since there's only a week until 2022, let's reflect on what we thought were the best (or worst) things MotU in 2021 For me>Best: Origins in general. My top 5 figures this year would be Mosquitor, LoP Mer-man, Tri-klops, Webstor and Buzz-off; fixing the knees on female figures; the new CGI show was a pleasant surprised, exceeding my (admittedly low) expectations; Goat Man and Blast Attak got their first animated appearances, so that was fun; the box art teasers, even if we never end up getting those in toy form, I love seeing new characters; the Powercon sets were all neat. >Worst: Everything else related to Revelations and Powercon not listed above default to "worst". I found Masterverse to be a disappointment of a toyline, in that it hasn't offered anything that excited me enough to buy it. If that changes in 2022, great, but it's showing in 2021 wasn't strong.

They lived with Skeletor, Hiss rarely ever took any solo actions without Skeletor, the underlings took orders from Skeletor as readily as they did Hiss. Exactly. There's some fun development there: once the Snake Men are living in Snake Mountain, the pre-existing Evil Warriors completely stop showing up. There's a clear line of continuity that goes:
King of the Snake Men / The Warrior Machine -> Eye of the Storm (or vice versa) -> Snake Attack! -> The Ultimate Battleground! -> The Search for Keldor -> Enter: Buzz-saw Hordak! / Revenge of the Snake Men! (or vice versa) -> Energy Zoids -> The Cosmic Key -> The Powers of Grayskull
In TSfK, Skeletor finds himself short-handed because the Snake Men are away at Viper Tower and the old Evil Warriors are gone, so he starts building yet another subgroup of Evil Warriors with summons and the robot He-Man in a storage closet.
This change keeps the number of characters manageable, as the number of toy Evil Warriors had grown to 14 in 1985 (pic related).

How do the breakdown of "teams" work at Mattel?
Like, are MotU MCX sets handled by a team in charge of MotU, or a team in charge of MCX?
Because I'm just thinking, with some of the complaints I hear from MCX fans, if it's latter, to my mind, that would explain. If that line is handled by just a general team in charge of all MCXs, they have allocate resources to every other brand that gets MCX sets like Halo and whatnot, and if they aren't primarily MotU focused, of course they won't care much about varied character selection.
(I'm making a lot of suppositions, I know)

I was thinking about getting in to this line, I have been mostly focused on GI Joes and ML lately. I would have some catching up to do, and I don't want to pay aftermarket prices. Someone is selling me a lot of 9 for $70 is that a good deal?
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>9523603 > lot of 9 for $70 is that a good deal? Depends on what's in the lot. If the lot is mostly made up of earlier figures like Trap Jaw, Zodac, Roboto, Man-E-Faces then it's definitely worth picking up since they're OOP. If it's mostly later ones like Fisto, Hordak, 200x Evil-Lyn then it's still worth considering since you're basically getting 30% off retail in a line that's overall kind of hard to find.

>>9523318 >Maybe if they do make Snake Mountain, and it sells well, it’ll get the line back on track. Man I sure hope so!
With carded figures no longer being done and their pattern of releasing most vehicles with a Heroic and Evil Warrior, I suppose it'll look something like:
Fisto variant on Stridor vs Webstor on Spydor
Jitsu on Night Stalker vs Filmation Snout Spout on Dragon Walker
Attak Trak with Clamp Champ vs Ninjor
Fright Fighter with Clawful vs Buzz Off
The wild card is going to be "Who gets packed in with Snake Mountain?" They already did Filmation variants of Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Beast Man and Trap-Jaw, and the other thematic grouping is Snake Men, which would take an amount of new parts unprecedented for MCX,

I wish MotU had a vehicle that multiple passengers could use, like the TMNT Party Wagon. Not counting battle bones since it's not really a "vehicle" and they snap onto the outside instead of riding inside it. I think the closest we have is Battle Ram where one guy can ride in the back
