There are exceptions here and there; the Davy Jones figure from 14 years ago is pretty great, the recent Pan's Labyrinth figures are surprisingly gorgeous, the 1/4 Turtles are solid as well (I would hope so, being larger and more expensive). But more often than not, their 7" mainline is just disappointing. It wasn't as bad when they cost $15 a pop, but now they retail for $30 or more.
Just for perspective, pic related is what $40 could get you in 2006. Yes, I know it's McFarlane and it's a staction figure, but this was 12" of SOLID plastic, weighing more than two or three Hot Toys put together. It was also painted better than NECA's 19" Predators today which cost over twice the price.
