To that anon talking Bond cars in the last thread, Bond cars were probably my first foray into "collector" diecast. I hunted down the entire first set that JL put out back in 1998, and I've still got them all, MOC, in storage at my parents. I loved the unique cart art and collectors cards for each car, it made them feel special, which was probably why I resisted opening them. Been picking up some others to open recently, very much enjoying them. Definitely love the Lotus and the V8 Vantage. Still mad the BMW 750i is forgotten, though.

My guess is that because they directly compete with Mattel's HW and refuse to jack up their price. This might work but Mattel won in advertising and flooding the market.

In the end they got bought by Mattel and still keeping the quality. Win I guess?

We know, but what he means is that now alot of HW cars drop the ball. Like you compare the quality between the 2 and you can tell. Matchbox might be simple but it does what it does really well. Look at an HW car that's trying to do the stock look and it just feels, boring or tacky. A Matchbox casting like that MR2 or some of the classic cars don't feel boring, they carry a clean look that while not gaudy, just works. I know, it's probably bias or me being retarded but I get the feeling that even if I like HW stuff more, Matchbox is just doing the clean stock realistic car much better, and HW already has been choking a little with it's-house designs. I just don't have any other way of wording it.

HW is more for the tracks. as far as style goes, they prioritize the paint job and flashy decals & wheels. matchbox go more for irl details. still i dont like how matchbox are much bigger in scale. they make my actual 1/64 cars look off and it rustles my autistic jimmies

Also recently got this brilliant 67 Eldorado from AutoWorld. I love how their true 1:64 scale shows how huge all these old cadillacs should always be in diecast. Love the detail on the oldschool crest tampo, too. Makes all the difference.

For me it's the lancer eventhough it's was kind of a bit too big. The red pig is good but the grey plastic wheel destroy it's elegance rather significantly.

Hot wheels doesn’t have any “normal” wheel designs in rotation. So you may get a real car, that is then thrown off by it’s unrealistic hot wheels style wheels. Meanwhile Matchbox wheels are mostly styles you could easily picture in real life.

Matchbox seems to choose a small pool of cars to do well at. Hot wheels does more cars (often more obscure real cars + their fantasy designs) to do ok at

My blue squad is growing.
The nissan has gray spots on body and wheels but it looks so good overall;
the birb my first one is amazing: like the color, like the golden rally stripes plus the firebird (always had a soft spot for american cars with rally stripes), the t-top and proportions in general;
the monte carlo is BIG. Wish i could find a regal to pair it with.
Too bad i can't find anything in stores, thought xmas would have been good because all toys aisles expand, instead hws have been completly removed aside for the big track playsets

You say Matchbox are bigger, but that's definitely not true. Most of the cars I've gotten from their recent Cadillac series feel notably smaller than they should, but that's because Cadillacs are super huge, so you can't get the proportions right and have it still fit on the card without shrinking the scale overall.

Auto World is definitely great, especially because they do a lot of "humdrum" stuff like basic bitch land barges and station wagons. It's a great line if you love huge, Detroit iron. Greenlight is pretty good as well, I have their Bluesmobile and it's absolutely perfect.

Same. They are peak of car design art. Kinda like older GTA cars. Taking clues from well known cars and doing their own.

For example Muscle Tone seems to me like a perfect Camaro modern look. Even better than actual modern Camaro in real life.

I don't think I could pick I favorite because Hot Wheels has made so many cool designs over the years but Mad Manga is really cool to me. I really like classic kaido racer/ bosozoku style so to see Hot Wheels do an original design based off the fairly niche culture is super cool. It's release with the Dekotora themed Galactic Express is just perfect. Also it's paint in this release is nearly an exact replica of a real car which makes it even cooler

Anybody here do 1/18? What do you do for display? Every single year Costco puts out these Maisto 1/18 cars for $15 a pop and they are ridiculously well detailed for that price. I don’t care what anyone says about Maisto cars, they have to sell these at best break even.

Anyway that’s off topic, every year I tell myself I don’t have room for more of these and before I know it I have 5 or more running through the checkout. I can’t ignore the space problem any longer, I need a solution.

I thought since each of these comes with a uniform stand, there would be some kind of “connector” that would allow you to stack stands. Obviously not to the ceiling, but 3 per stack sounds safe. Yet I can’t find anything of the sort. Anyone here have any better ideas?

So it’s been quite some time since I did anything with hot wheels, but I got back into it recently when I learned my irl car got a casting (in the same color too). So while rummaging around for it, I ended up buying like 20 other cars I thought were cool. I opened them all, and later on when looking up details on one of them, I found I accidentally opened a Treasure Hunt. Now back in my day, there’s no way you could make this mistake because TH cars were very unique from the normal cars. But this car seems no different than any other car, and even it’s card isn’t distinct. Did they make TH cars more common?

Yes and no. Mattel does make them in higher numbers, but the catch is that the hype surrounding them and the Super Treasure Hunt variants attracts speculative scalpers. That means that even though they are technically more readily available, you are most likely not gonna get them unless you are either lucky or resort to the vulture-like nature of scalpers who wait at store doors in the morning. Hell they even get buddy buddy with either a stocker or even the department manager to let them buy a bunch of the stock, since from the department manager's eyes, this is a win win.

These are awesome cars. The AMX or any AMC cars are rarely made. Thanks for the Bond views. Some of my top castings are movie/TV vehicles. I picked us some Smokey and the Bandit I & II TA's 2 or 3 of each. I got that many because the wheels on every one stuck or was really tight. Every one rolled for crap. I usually have a small collection of 4-5 of my favorite cars on my desk that I keep out permanently, then maybe another handful or two that I rotate in and out of storage. You have a company with such a rich history, and yet they are so focused on a tiny, tiny part of it. Acceleracers lasted for what, a year? Two years? And they'll likely never be back again unless HW sees it profitable to do so, in which case god help us all.
Most of the castings were hot garbage that only looked vaguely good in their original colors.

I bought the standard edition for PS5 when it was half price and I think the racing is very fun but it's still early on. There are only about 180 cars right now. It's grindy. The menus lack polish. It's worth it if it's on sale but it isn't worth the full price.

Yes, but I'm self aware enough that it's a guilty pleasure. Arcade racers/time trials have always been my preferred brand of autism and I actually really like the driving model in the game.

The praises don't outweigh the ridiculous monetization scheme, lazy single player track selection, lack of multiplayer options, hilariously bad AFK farming problem (that shouldn't even exist since you can just break the game economy with client side cheats), huge balance issues between vehicles, track editor that can randomly make it impossible to edit or save because of a rounding error, and a perpetually fucked up livery editor. Most of these problems would be pretty simple to fix too, but instead they just stick to the schedule of drip feeding the community cars that have been in the game data since launch, the majority of which have been licensed character cars that aren't even customizable. The latest example of the total lack of effort from the devs was the christmas car pack which released Synkro with bugged stats/start boost which it still has now a month later. They've cashed out the game and there doesn't seem to be anybody at the wheel anymore which has killed the online community pretty quickly.

Got super lucky in my past two Walmart trips. I can't believe I found the full AW case hanging on the pegs, The entire aisle was pretty much empty besides this set, a couple 1:24 F&F cars, and those mini Hollywood rides. I'm really excited to crack these open and get a good look at the detail. I passed on the 66 Suburban & Wrangler. The Blue RX-7 holds a special place in my heart because I had a blue base '86 when I was 17.

Technically speaking, muscle car only means any car with a high power to weight ratio. Its only in common layman's terms that muscle car has become shorthand for 2 door american car. There are lots of cars that qualify as muscle cars, many german sports cars fall into the muscle car bracket, like a bmw m3 for an example, is a .

But I would have to conced that the supra is a muscle car, if only by the most literal definition. A light weight car with a lot of power.

The game is absolutely worth the money. Its not just a souless cash gab like everyone expected.

Its a good old fashioned arcade racer with burnout style drift physics. There's micro transactions, but they're not evil money vacuums like some mobile games, you only have to buy what you want, and nothing more. The only exception being actual expansion packs, which is a required purchase for new maps and more single player campaign races. But the game also has a track builder, which means there's literally infinite tracks to race in just the base game.

You only need to buy the base game to get infinite hours of game to play.

Not to mention casual and competitive online racing modes.

Get it on a steam sale when it comes around if you really don't want to pay full price.

Just as a quick example but now I find myself looking on ebay for it. I just think 14 bucks is really steep for one car but i can't stop thinking about it either for the past few days.

Pre-corona we used to have this holiday where everybody sets up little stalls to sell their old stuff once a year. Basically a countrywide drinkfest/garagesale in all the parks and stuff.
I dont randomly pop in stores for cars. But that moment was always just looking for old cars valhalla. I just feel in my body that itch to look for and buy diecast like crazy after two years despite this not being a hobby i was every "actively" pursueing.

Like the difference between a mustang and a wagon.

A heavy car with a lot of power would usually fall under luxury sports car, because they're usually the big four door sedans with lots of fancy doodads that weigh the car down, where a muscle car is usually stripped of extra features specifically to keep the weight down.

And yes, an f1 car does fall under a muscle car, but, its also at an extreme end of it. Like how a retard bus and a giant london bendy bus are both busses, even though they have very different proportions.

If you like doing up dioramas for your cars, specifically 64th scale, the matchbox action drivers series is perfect. I've already got the entire first wave, and the little city thats starting to develop looks great on a desk or table, or even on a shelf if you have deep shelves.

They're also compatible with the current hot wheels city sets.

Wave 2 has been confirmed, and images have been leaked, and it looks like we'll be getting some licensed sets, starting with an adorable little pizza hut set in this wave.

The pizza hut set was available to buy as a sneak peak from the pizza hut website only for christmas, but they only made 1000, and those sold out basically instantly.

This is what has be so excited about what matchbox is doing. They're leaving all the wacky silly stuff to hot wheels and going back to the roots with realistic playsets of gas stations and parking garages.

Hell the set the released the year before was an homage to classic playsets from the 80's and 90's.

Also, their boxart starting in 2020 has grid lines again, showing they're really serious about the whole retro thing. And its so comfy and awesome. Really brings me back to when I was a kid and had some of the hw world sets, like the half dozen McDonald's playsets they did.

Has anybody got Color Reveal Color Shifters before? They come in a plastic barrel of two. I got one today because I love this Shadow Jet II casing but the yellow paint is hard to completely remove with all of the sharp angles.

They were perfect targets for hotwheels to smash through at a 1000 mph because they were light weight and dented easy. So they would fly everywhere and have cool deformation if you hit thwm hard enough, while hot wheels wouldn't have a scratch.
