I almost bought a Figma school girl because they were popular on /toy/
Apart from that, i was into the normal popular shit that were also fads: He Man and Transformers.
Do TMNT, GI Joe and XMen count as fads? They went on for a good decade before they were replaced or died. He Man and TFs had like 3 good years.
>>9520881>i know about pirating too, but what if we lose that one day in some kind of no-internet/dead server apocalypse?Pirating is always iffy, despite the fact it's something of a hydra when one site/service is shut down and another one pops up. I remember when ROM and ISO sites littered the web like passenger pigeon clouds. It's very different today.
It's become exceedingly easier for media companies to go after you through your ISP, whereas before your ISP would actually make an attempt to not give them info. ISPs have lost a few major cases and we're on borrowed time as appeals are starting to fail.
Streaming has made collecting movies and tv shows almost moot, except for the fact that censorship has been going crazy for the past 5 years. Who knows what else is going to be considered worse than Hitler in five more years.
Then there's the fact that there's 320498 different competing streaming services, whereas just 8 years ago you only needed one. New streaming services have multipled, and divided up the content so bad these days and could get worse.
It's just easier and safer to continue collecting only my favorites, especially right now when people are getting rid of their collections for cheap. Maybe in 3-5-10 years, the same shit will happen with DVD/BDs that happened with video games. I remember when only popular hard to find games went up in price, like Xenogears or Panzer Dragoon Saga. Shit like Mega Man Legends series or Cannon Spike were unpopular games that were going for $10, but now go for insane prices.
We've alraedy seen how censorship actually drove up prices for series like Simpsons.
