This year also marked the end of Robot Concerto, Bandai Gashapon's non-Gundam modular robot line. Their producer posted a blog about it earlier this month.

Summary is that the line sold well but it didn't make a profit with rising costs and their 500 yen price-point, so it ended with the planned 4 waves.

so far by the standards of this thread Robot Concerto looks like it shouldn't be too hard or expensive to collect, the standard versions of Parts 02, 03, and 04 are all available in fairly reasonably priced full sets on eBay, though Part 1.5(regular Part 01 seems basically impossible to find anywhere) is a tad expensive and the Dark Legion version of Part 04 is pretty damn expensive for a Gashapon toyline

not sure if there's any other variant sets though as this line definitely hasn't been covered too much by any Western sites

also Animagear seems to be a lot more expensive on an individual basis, though that line seems to be a more standard model figure line than a Gasha one like Robot Concerto

They seem to have enough parts to cover most sci-fi vehicles now. Mechs, cars, bikes, trucks, tanks, planes and now helicopters, with legs, wheels or treads. Maybe they'll do marine-based vehicles next.

This shit is subjective of course, but I still don't see it as a huge issue. It's barely noticeable. And even lore-wise, these are robot skeleton ghost pirates. Who's to say they even sail on water? Maybe watertightness is irrelevant to them.

The base body kits are kind of base building kits! They come with double the parts a regular kit does, so you get quite a lot of pieces to work with. I picked up two of those and was able to expand my base a lot.

Maybe his shouting out of Toy Notch's Astrobots page is a good indication that maybe something is finally coming? I have to say I like this look of Athenia (previous Athena) a lot better. Looks much more interesting than her original look, and cool to see that her wings turn into swords. I was originally only interested in Artemis, but I'd probably go for both.

My Convoy V-Shadow recently came in. I appreciate the extra weapons to make up for the lack of a trailer, but I don't understand why they didn't include anything to act as storage for the swords. Like could they really not have included those little clasps that Dia-Battles comes with? That's all they really needed to do.

My Big Powered Vers Caliber came in today. Couldn't help but notice it didn't include the usual set of magnetic pads. Are they just not using them anymore, or is it getting stuck in the expansion set? Takara's a bunch of assholes if the latter.

What's a good alternative to those magnetic pads anyway? I've been using bakugan gates I have. The black magnetic tape at the stationary store are magnetized and would repel the magnets half the time.

Anybody here like Pocket Titans? I just randomly picked this guy up recently and he's kinda nifty. The plastic quality leaves a bit to be desired and the decals are sadly all water-transfer ones, but it's a neat poor man's Diaclone mech.

It was posted years ago and we were wondering if they KOed or commissioned RIHIO for the designs, since they look like simplified versions of their MM001 mechs. Never really found the answer for that. The line's distro seems to be very limited though and I don't think it's officially available anywhere in Asia.

That's the norm for No57 kits since they started. I managed to squeeze like 3~4 bodies worth of armor from 1 set of Oniflame and Shadow Wolf. The unfortunate thing about the frogs is that they don't have a stock frame you can buy elsewhere.

Sucks, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Even their most generous offerings give you about 85% armor coverage, and you still need another core frame.

Diaclone is so weird to me. Like, compared to other building systems, it doesn't seem all that modular, and tends to break into very big solid chunks in my experience.

Now, maybe I just lack imagination, but this limits how far you can take builds IMO. Versus a "pure building" line like say, Assemble Borg or Glyos, which break down into tons of tiny little bits that can be coaxed into most any shape. When I take apart my Diaclone stuff, I mostly just feel like I'm nudging it into a slightly different form.

This is largely a factor with the amount of different sizes of mechs the line has. Its also pretty good when giving you options for not just for mechs but vehicle builds as well.

Well, that's your issue. Diaclone is a 1/60 mecha toy line drawing from a previous mecha toyline. It's highly modular for what it is, but it's not a building system.

The non-standard joints are to cater to the larger mechs I think. You can only go so far with a simple cylindrical peg system, maybe larger if you manage to double-up the pegs (like versriser backpacks)

They didn't mod anything, this is the ship straight out of the box. Aside from the interior, it works just fine at 1/60 scale as a dropship or cargo hauler. Lots of sculpted detail all over.

Powersuit hands can hold some of the guns, as soon as the handle is curved or has some other, more sculpted form, you're going to experience difficulties. I can't get the tuning fork rifle in there, but the other guns I crabbed work out.

They want you to use the gun holster clips on the waist to act like sheaths for the swords, and this works both in bot and vehicle mode. You can peg the rifles somewhere else. Personally, since this dude is supposedly the close combat variant of Battle Convoy I just have him with the swords and keep the rifles attached to the unused cockpit module from the "truck bed" aka legs. My headcanon is the extra cockpit module acts as a support unit whose job is to transport the rifles and can use the rifles as its own weaponry.

It's fucked up how ageless the Revo Getter-2 is. Thing was amazing in 2008 and even today I find myself sometimes taking it off the shelf to mess with. With every new release this line strays further from the aesthetic that made me start buying it in the first place. Kind of a bummer, I was hoping there would be this big expansive catalog of parts to build with after a while, but the bots they've been releasing vary so wildly aesthetically that there's not much visual overlap.

I think it feels that way because of the increased amount of spin-off releases (3x Bird Binary and 4x that Chinese game that gave us samurai Ronin and clawed Carbe retools)

The “core” line still retains the original aesthetic and color scheme well enough in my opinion (pic related), hope we get more of those next.

I finally bit the bullet and picked up one of the newer mechs as an enemy to my Number 57 bots, and I’m tentatively curious about pic related too. I’m building a small unit of Hexa Gear Governors as human foot soldiers, and it only further solidifies how much more of a deal Number 57 kits are. MFT's VP sub-brand was doing that space theme. They had 1/60 astronauts, heavily modified Diaclone powersuits and that converting trailer. It's dead but you might be able to find these releases on aliexpress still.

I almost feel like they went the wrong direction, here. It isn't an update of the original Powered Convoy, so it doesn't have any of the benefits of that going for it. It's most similar to God Ginrai, but it doesn't have the impressive size and didn't grab the opportunity to wow us by somehow fitting three bullet cores in one robot. They really should have just gone with the new trailer route of classic Powered Convoy.

The big turnoff for me is that it's basically a pricey upgrade set for battle convoy. it doesn't come like that out of the box, the convoy is sold separately, and the parts included in the set are just an upgrade armour.

The website shows a mech mode with just the DA-85 parts, and as far as I can tell the other cockpit in the set contains the entire powered-up robot head. So you could probably kludge a few different robot modes out of just the set.

Given it appears, at least from the angle we've seen, to have a similar front face to what the full trailer has, I'm pretty sure this thing can be pull on its own without having to attach to the main trailer. In fact, I'm pretty sure you'd have to remove the front plate, the main feature of the set, if you wanted to use it as a trailer expansion.

Seems like there weren't that many of them made in the first place. In addition, Diaclone products are for some reason widely available in HK, including supposedly limited shit like the Pod Grander, to the point that they can be found in retail stores unlike everywhere else. HK is perhaps the only country with a big presence of Diaclone collectors outside Japan due to this availability, so I imagine the people there have already hoarded what they can. What pisses me off is these brick and mortar HK stores uniformly refuse to sell internationally, and you can only buy from those HK sites who always jack up the price and shipping costs.

probably because the original Diaclone was licensed to create Transformers in the first place, so Diaclone Reboot probably got grandfathered into that same deal, same if they did anything new with the Micro-Change portion of Micro-Man probably

which makes it a shame that Hasbro hasn't tried releasing any of it here in the West

I’m really quite excited about this. I know that Koto has pushed a bit more of a utilitarian theming to their mechs with the Bulkarm despite the mounts/beasts being absolutely fucking Wild. But it’s really cool to see something a bit more dynamic in terms of mecha and I hope it sells well.

The new cockpits are so lame by comparison though. Great robot base had an actual base inside the clear window screen, this is literally just a plain cockpit with some seats. I will be so pissed if this actually winds up as the main chest part for great robot badem.

Looks like a bear, but that head is a little cartoonishly shaped.

So Sharkboi has colors. A pretty… surprising color scheme, to be honest, but I like the modular nature of the two sets of arms. Also, neat set of extras and unique plating! Kinda sucks that you’d need multiples to create a decent hallway/bunker/roofing, but I guess that’s how they get ya.

Well, for being such small figures, they have articulated necks, shoulders, elbows, abs, and knees, plus magnetic feet, detailed molds, a variety of heads, and paint applications. Diaclone has some pretty strict QC, too, going by the general quality of the shipped products, plus these aren't produced in the same numbers as a regular toy, That all adds up to some pretty pricey plastic.

Yeah, I don't personally find Dianauts worth my money, but you can't fuck with the product they're putting out. It's definitely high quality and the tolerances and QC are always perfect. Diaclone is expensive, but it's also one of the least janky toylines I've experienced in a long time.

It's the precision of the paint apps on these tiny fuckers that gets me. I've seen three inch figures end up absolutely derpy from relatively tiny misalignments, but across the sets I've gotten not one of the Dianauts have a perceptible error in any of the paint. I will agree that the pilot packs are overpriced. You're going to be getting Dianauts or Warudaroids with pretty much any set anyway.

I personally prefer to mix Diaclone stuff with Legends scale Transformers myself. 3rd parties are also starting to notice their sorta-similar scale, for example the new Optimus Prime from MS was intentionally designed to fit Dianauts in the set's Roller and trailer drone. The only downsides are that Diabattles v2, the Tribros and Battle Convoy are much bigger than any Legends Optimus, and that geewun TF alt modes do not really scale well with each other.

Yeah I do like the set very much, especially the obvious reference to Thunder Gridman. I had Playmates' SSSS simplified version of the toy in the 90s, but that one got stolen by toy goblins so I've always wanted some kind of replacement since.

I was hesitant about picking it up though since it does have its flaws and is also pricey due to being both Diaclone and Gridman. It's hard to recommend if you aren't into Gridman especially since the toy isn't as modular as other Diaclone of the same price.
