For RGs basically all the nubs are hidden or the parts are undergated so there will be very minimal clean up once you snip them off the runners

Fuck why am I so bad. Why is fixing seams so hard. Am I sanding too much? Do I need thicker plastic cement? This is taking all of the fun out of building but now that I've started I can't leave it half- finished. I just wanted to remove the seams in Zero's hands.

cut/file the pegs down a bit, not much just a millimetre or two
make sure you cement every edge that comes into contact with an edge on the other part, not just parts that will be visible
use multiple coats of cement
if you can, fit the pieces together (but dont fully push them together, leave a gap wide enough for your cement brush) then put another coat of cement in the gap before immediately squeezing them together
squeeze the pieces together for 2-3 minutes to let the cement set

No. Make the gap as small as you can make it, 0.1mm is ideal. Let the cement be sucked into the gap from the brush by capillary action. Use extra thin cement of course.

Yes. Also make sure there is enough cement in the gap. If in doubt, add more.

The method I use and now can't remember where I saw is to try shaving off some extra plastic from the runner to melt into the lines. These hands have polycaps in the wrists so I don't think I can gain much tightness by sanding down the pegs.
(And to be honest I already cemented all the pegs and holes anyway.)
It seems no matter how much cement I use or how hard I try to squeeze it together the seam never gets filled.

Thick cement has like 10% styrene dissolved in it (read the label) so it'll discolor the seam no matter how well you weld it, only recommended for painted builds

How the fuck does anyone find actual good quality shit on Amazon? The site is so bogged down with shitloads of low quality china products, which is fine and all when it's not impossible to figure out where the good shit is. Every review for everything I look for is full of people talking about the product being cheap and low quality.
I don't want to order supplies piecemeal from a bunch of different hobby stores and pay shipping and wait weeks for everything.

Depends on how much you used. For regular non-retarded amounts 30min-1hr for extra thin, 2-3min for extra thin quick setting. Melted sprue putty (depending on the volume) can take up to 2 days.

Just seam weld as usual, sand the seam with some high grit sandpaper wrapped around a thin dowel and use that to get into all the crevices between the fingers.

i just do the same shit with hiding seams on gunpla, just use plastic cement, sand off the excess and then prime and paint over everything.
ive used putty before but it seemed unnecessary when i found out plastic cement worked just about the same.

I don't think you understand what I mean. I'm talking about sanding the parts that are in tiny little recesses that a typical sanding stick can't reach. The other anon's recommendation of wrapping around a small dowel or something is the best idea but it still seems like it won't totally get the job done.

That's a new skillset I'm not ready to try my hand at or invest in. I don't even usually seam weld since seams don't bother me in mechanical models like Mobile Suits but seeing it in the humanoid features of MMX kits activates my autism.

Got my second kit and it's an RG Nu Gundam. I've already built the RG Sazabi. I'm looking to get into painting but I cannot really afford a spary gun atm because they are fuck all expensive in my 3rd world shithole. Can you really hand paint these figures? Could you guys post any examples of hand painted kits. I've seen the one in the sticky but other than that couldn't find too many examples. Should I just stick to oob for now?

yes you can handpaint them, but it takes a lot more patience and skill than an airbrush and your first hand paint jobs will probably look pretty bad so i would recommend reading a lot and practising on a couple of cheap kits first
most gunpla builders seem to airbrush, but if you want to check out some examples of what good handpainted stuff can look at maybe check out some warhammer stuff (or other miniatures)

If people can handpaint 1/48 aircraft and 1/35 tanks, then there's nothing stopping you from handpainting gunpla. Its only serious downside it will take much longer than painting with an airbrush.

yes you can do it but I think the general idea is you need to apply many layers of thin paint (paint, let it dry, paint let it dry etc) to avoid brush strokes showing up. Also yeah don't experiment with an RG Nu. Get a cheap and simple HG or EG kit.

Also maybe tally up what each method will cost you. I don't think compressors and airbrushes are that expensive, especially if you can afford buying RG Saz and Nu. Might be worth saving up for a cheap-ish airbrush set.

Snapfag and waifu-fag here, how is the HG Mrs. Loheng-Rinko kit compared to Super Fumina and Hyper Gyanko? Uncanny-Valley face isn’t a concern for me, I just didn’t like Fumina and Gyanko’s constructions. Its biggest flaw is it suffers from lack of swappable faceplate and has that creepy doll face the early bandai girl kits all had. It also is like fumina in that it uses that cheap rubber for the skirt that can't be painted and you have to be super careful removing nubs from.

Other than those I know for sure the 86 kits, Beyond Global, Moon Gundam, Messer, & Nobel Gundam (both versions) don't have any. I've also heard that Atlas Gundam, Aegis Knight, Wodom Pod, Justice Knight, Braves, Overflag, Enacts, Union Flags, Farsia, Penelope, Infinite Justice Gundam, & Ball Twin Set don't have any.

Ok if you must. I have experience in building the old 1/100 Nu (1980+), the Ver Ka MG and the Hi-Nu MG Ver Ka. and the Hi-Nu MG and the RG Nu

First up, the old 1/100, its kinda ok, if you dig the retro style. it has metal leg fittings. but the articulation is shit. If you wanna buy the reprints, its not worth the price but if you happen to pass by a local store which have it at really low price, its great.

next is the Nu Ver Ka. the articulation is great, the heft and weight is great, it doesnt need metal fittings. if you ignore the G-dome transformation, its way better than the old MG. The fin funnels completely sucks. It barely stays on. its great with the decals applied. I dont know how Katoki does it, every ver Ka always look great with all its decal applied. Built the Daban 2x

Next is the Hi-Nu old MG. its okay. its on the 2.0 standard, so it doesn't do anything offensive. its based on the senile Izibuchi design, so it depends on your taste. Built the daban 1x

then the Hi-Nu Ver Ka. Its one of the best Nu you will ever build. it shares alot from the Nu ver Ka, but it is smaller. then it has less greebles. the drop tanks are not accurate to the novel version, but other wise its the best kit overall. the decals on the fin funnels are a bitch to apply, but the kit benefits on all of its decal applied. built the Daban 3 times.

Lastly, the RG Nu. its ok. has the same articulation as the MG. its supposed torso articulation feature is actually pointless. But it has the better implementation of the fin funnels compared to the Ver Ka MG. I hate how more greebled the design is compared to the MG Ver. Ka. built this 1x

building the kits usually takes the mind of the depression the cfs brings for a few weeks. though the pandemic and lockdows makes me more depressed than ever.

also, I built 4x Chars zaku, 1x white ogre zaku, 1 green zaku, 1x age-1, 3x unicorn, 2x sinanju, 5x gundam 2.0, 2x OO raiser, 1x OO qanta, 1x ex-s, 1x red astray, 1x PG unicorn, 1x tallgeese 3 and 1x gundam fa thunderbolt. all are MG Daban.

but this year is major depression time. only mustered up enough willpower to buy 1x tallgeese 3 and the gundam fa thunderbolt

I suggest getting the Daban and using that as an experience.

the vinyl is a bitch to apply. the manual is not good at showing how vinyl should stay on, the manual say cut the vinyl when it is better to put the 2 pieces together to hold the vinyl before cutting it.

the sub arms are a mess. there's a small latch that's supposed to hold the subarms in place when you pull it out for the shields, but the piece is too short so the whole thing keeps slipping down, you have to apply some putty to make the latch longer.

the base of the sub-arms are not easily rotatable, you have to pull it out first then rotate then pull it down, rotating it willy-nilly will break it. that's how i destroyed mine.

the arms are ok, but cannot really lift the beam rifle even if the arms are stiff as heck. I think this is the best time to apply screws or metal fittings to make the arm better.

anyway, its 8/10 MG, the emptiness of the frame and stuff makes it feel or more less a RE1/100 than a MG.

This kit has kind of shitty proportions and is not the best. Its kind of sloppy for what should have been the S-tier IBO HG kit. I would recommend you get HG IBO Barbatos Lupus instead. Overall though if you can get the Beyond Global for $12 I think that's the obvious choice.

I'm new at this. It's this one, it doesn't actually have a specific designation but my understanding is that it is a newer release of the HG version rather than the original, because the original mold was used to the point of breaking.

Thats the revive. Its not new, but its not the original either and its quite good. Also the original wasn't replaced because it was reused to the point of breaking, it was just heavily outdated in terms of engineering and as the classic gundam design they like to make updated kits for it like every 5-10 years to keep it modern.

built gremory today. kit is very cool looking but kind of wonky. legs and feet are really wonky, cant get it to stand without falling over easily. Also don't like the lack of additional weapons. The massive anchor can't even be held in place correctly (just slides around in the hand) and bandai cheaped out of giving you a full anchor in case you don't like the broken look. The hands are also fucked because of the forearm shields; you can't really position the anchor in some obvious ways because of this... the design just seems sloppy in some parts.

Also this kit is pretty fuckin hueg. Look at it next to the barbie! Lore-wise its supposed to have special nanolaminate armor (not just coating) and yeah, the blue armor on this definitely looks special compared to other IBO kits. What a chonky beast. I hope an option set augments gremory's loadout in the future.

Also you can see what I mean by the ability of the hands to hold weapons being fucked by the forearm armor; I had to remove the armor (which you see on the right arm) just to get it to hold the anchor.

i bought this because i was looking for a relatively inexpensive alternative to LEGO with more steps
i'm glad i didn't get a kit with 20+ runners because i was satisfied to "finish" it in a day and move on

A little. Topcoat has no pigment so naturally has a higher ratio of binder to solvent, since there's no "filler". But at the end of the day you're just diluting the pigment. Paint and coat separately

Will you be taking it apart ever? Paint will seep between the gaps and glue the pieces together so you're pretty much semi-permanently locking everything together.

I wouldn't paint the puzzle in it's final assembled form. I would paint the individual pieces of the puzzle, which is what you build with this kit.
So yeah, I would hope to still have it function as a working puzzle.

I was having similar thoughts as you and made the mistake of painting all the pieces individually before solving the puzzle. It made everything a nightmare during assembly because the tolerances are really tight and you must slide pieces over eachother to solve it.

If i could do it over, I would assemble and solve the puzzle. Mark each face that actually ends up on the outside of the puzzle, dissasemble it and ONLY paint the side of the parts that are on the outside

Got this gran saurer kit for crimbo from my mum to compliment my robot triceratops collection but ngl the 'tops mode is a bit underwhelming. I definitely prefer the mech mode. It's pretty cool though, not too cumbersome to transform either. A fun build compared to the standard mobile suit

Right now its a mess. Anything you would want is sold out and will take months to restock, then sell out in minutes. High grade and master grade kits cant be kept in stock. New releases arent too hard to get. Getting anything from japan is going to cost more in shipping than the product. Target and hobby lobby dont have a huge selection but are pretty consistent. You can try to find local shops but hard to say about your area and how they are ran.

If you WANT to buy a drill press there are premade ones you can buy, with the smallest/cheapest ones being dremel holders. I don't think you'll ever NEED them for replacing light jobs pinvise-jobs though, unless you're scratch building and need to drill like 30 holes or something.

Zero anon here. I just did the usual process for seam filling and sanded around all of the curves using thin sandpaper. I also had to fill a few spots with Milliput putty mixed with some 70% IPA.

I'm terrified of sanding because I don't know how it'll turn out in terms of the finished piece having obvious scratches, the finish being too matte, or not matching other non-sanded sides/pieces. Been mostly taking the xacto to the nubs but I've made a few minor divots. Nothing glaringly obvious unless you're looking for it.
Basically, what grit amounts will be of most help and how the fuck can I man up and stop being a bitch about this?

If you are painting or spraying a topcoat you can stop at 800. If you want the same raw plastic finishing you need to start polishing after 800~1000, i.e. 2000 grit sandpaper, superfine glass files, polishing compound but the easiest is using pedicure buffing sticks/blocks.

I managed to find an Alto ground type. Enjoyed it so much preordered a bunch of the new kits and extras coming out, and now I have an alto/rabio/beta flight with a couple option kits sitting pretty in my online cart. Trying really hard not to pull that trigger.

Like that other anon said, black foamboard at dollar general or hit a dollar tree and get one of the thinner craft boards, they also come in light blue that works well.

Alternatively you could buy a star tapestry like I have here. Cost around $15.

I was truckin along happily with my single blade nippers for quite a while. But recently I misplaced them and had to revert back to my old Tamiya dual bladed ones, and I realized holy shit, these cut so much easier. This made me realize that my single blades have probably gotten very dull and I just didn't notice it happening over time. Is it possible to sharpen or have these re-edged or something? Or do I just need to toss these and go looking for a new pair?

Never heard of this site but holy shit I wish I knew about it sooner. Too bad they don't have a replacement for the Gerbera runner I lost a piece of. There are other PC-001s but they come in so many different shades I'd have no idea which kits have it in the same gray as Gerbera.

This may sound strange or even heretical, but I'm very tired of the standard super-tapered beam saber shape that gets incredibly thin at the end. I also have increasingly been feeling like Bandai has been making them too long lately. Many blades I get with HGs feel like they would be more fitting for a MG, or at the very least, something between the two scales.

Basically, I am looking to replace a few beam saber blades with uniform-diameter blades with rounded ends, like lightsabers. What would be the easiest way to do this? I'm hoping someone already makes such a part, but if worst comes to worst I'm willing to DIY somewhat.

I'm aware I'm late to the party here, but I just built Beyond Global and I think it's ruined HGs for me. There are so many clever design decisions here that looking at other recent HGs just frustrates me. Why can't Bandai employ this kind of engineering to their entire line? It's there, it's discovered, they can use it--but they don't. I am so frustrated. I want to build more MS on this level. Even small things like the hinged back skirt don't use any more plastic than the usual pegged ones, and finally fix an age-old issue with HGs.

There are only two things keeping this kit from perfection: the ankle rockers are mediocre (somewhat mitigated by the AMAZING back and forth hinge), and the chest had amazing potential for crunch, but they limited it by design. Yeah, it woulda been gappy, but that's a solvable issue, and besides, I'd take gappy over poor articulation any day.

So I've been kicking around the idea of making some sort of kitbash using an old HG Sinanju I snapped up ages ago when the thing first came out. I had boxed it when I got the RG and wanted to do something with it, but it sat on the backburner for a while in favor of groupbuilds/other projects.

Jump to a few days ago when I'm unpacking some kits from moving and I stumbled on that HG Sinanju. After spending a couple of hours between yesterday and today mashing parts together while watching anime I ended up with this. Asides from some balljoints from a Ballden Arms set for the hips, everything used here is recycled from the HG Sinanju. I wanna incorporate the fuel tanks at some point (Either on the backpack or on the legs) but I'm not sure where. The only major parts I didn't end up using are the chest, the feet, and the shield.
