Ok guys, its time we had a talk.

These things have just come in to me after something like 2 years of hemming and hawing by premium DNA. I'm glad they actually delivered but this is far from a perfect release.

As much as I'm gonna shit on them here, I just want everyone to know that I still have an overall positive opinion of these things. I don't regret getting them and I am gonna display them. But they're nowhere near 10/10. These are, considering the circumstances, more like 6/10. And I think their branding as a "Premium collectable" is really going to fuck them over. If these were billed as kids toys for 15 bucks they'd be perfectly acceptable, but as 40 dollar collectables they just don't cut it.

The biggest and most prevalent issue with these guys is Quality Control. I'm sure the factories in china were struggling from the pandemic and I'm sure there was a huge crunch to try and finish the work, but some of the stuff on these figures is just sloppy as hell. Here's a good example: The veins on Occulus Orbus are fairly consistently off the sculpted detail. Whatever mask they were using, it clearly wasn't properly aligned. Painting issues like this are all over the place and I'm gonna be highlighting them in the coming pictures with some more info.

I feel as thought anyone who bought into these should have known what to expect. They have simplistic articulation, and are overall big chunky figures that won't move a whole lot. They're premium in that they have lots of paint, the production run is small, and whatever else.

It isn't even just misaligned masks but paint pooling is coming as well. You can see the blue of the veins here pooling in the muscles around them. Highlights look quickly done and often don't seem to align with the bends or raised areas they're supposed to highlight. Painting is often incomplete as well and won't reach the end of the raised detail. This is acceptable to a degree, but should at least taper into a point like a vein, not just abruptly end.

Other QC issues include improperly assembled parts and erratic tolerances. My occulus came with his lower legs not only on backwards, but switched, with the left being on the right and the right being on the left as an example of improper assembly. Tolerances for joints vary greatly with some being super tight and others being very loose. Gripping hands can be tightly closed or far too open. On my figures occulus's hands are too lose to hold his magnifying glass while Splitting Headache's hands are so tight I couldn't fit anything into them without a hair dryer.

Again, if this thing was 15 dollars at target, I'd have zero issue with it. These sorts of QC details are common in mass produced toys and can be excused in the case of painting or fixed in the case of joint tightness or grip size. But as 40 dollar collectables these figures should adhere to a higher level of quality to match their price and...well they just don't.

Look not gonna excuse whatever problems these things have, but from the start these were clearly marketed to nostalgic older guys with disposable income, not kids.

As for $15, I don't there are are any toys with a comparable amount of sculpt or heavy use of paint for that price-point. Sucks about QC though.

You could say the same things about stuff like the TMNT Ultimate line. I got my Muckman in the same package as these guys. Roughly the same price (44 vs 40) and he's immaculate.

OP Here. Turns out I'm dumb.

I opened the occulus first, as it was the figure I was most interested in. And I made the assumption that the QC on it was reflective of the rest of the figures. As it turns out, its not! That occulus was just a particularly terrible example. It even had two left feet.

The other figures and all their accessories are quite well painted and the worst QC on them were a loose elbow joint on one and overly tight grip on another.

On one hand, this is good news, and makes me hopeful for the pumpkin guy coming out well. On the other hand, Oculus Orbus was one of my most awaited ones, and this is a big bummer. I hope mine comes out a little better than this, it's still in my BBTS warehouse so I won't find out for a month or two.

You actually can hold the bone club fairly easily in the open hand, or with a hair dryer in the "holding" hands. The crowbar is quite flexible so it fits into his hands easily. The skateboard having non-movable Wheels is just a side effect of how it's sculpted. The wheels aren't connected to an axle that connects to the board, the wheels are connected directly to the board and the axle is just kind of hanging between them. It's weird but it's not that big a deal.

Yup definently the weakest to me his stubby little legs don't allow for any cool poses you might be able to squeeze out the articulation with the board, also of the skeletal parts getting in the way of already limited articulation it feels like that whole skeleton half is barely moveable compared to the other half

If I had to rate them it would be something like Bruise Brother>Oculus=Hornhead>>>>>>>>>>>>>Splitting Headache

But I'm very happy with em over all

I received a shipping email too, but strangely it was never updated past the "preparing to ship" phase.
Now I'm just waiting for the bonus art print.

Did anybody actually get their exclusive signed Madball print for the first however-many orders? I definitely had my order placed in the first few minutes, I wouldn't bank on getting any GPK cards from Megalopolis.

They made a shipping label on the 19th and texted me a tracking code, the day after I e-mailed them, but it hasn't moved anywhere from California since. I'm assuming they're waiting till Monday to ship but if it's any longer than that it's not a very good look for them. If they put out anything else I want in the future I'll be going through BBTS.

Will probably end up skipping the two-packs. The kids look boring compared to the MB and we'll likely get a non-injured Screamin Meemie in the original blue uniform in wave 2.

I don't plan on getting anything other than the Oculus two pack depending on how cool the repaint is, but I gotta say the Madballs head on Mouth Phil is awesome and such a creative idea. I thought these would wind up boring too and just shoehorn the characters together as a cash grab but that little detail has me optimistic about the other sets. Even if I don't buy them I appreciate the little details like that.

Looking at the pics I do like that the oculus is different enough with the new head and GID body. The monstrous and gross look of the GPK is pretty neat too.

I’m in for the Orbus, I’ll sell the Darren. Adding battle damage to the GPK was a shitty idea, it’s too distracting. “Weird child” is already a lot of visual information, “weird child and they’ve been beat up” is just confusing

I think it would have been better if they had released Madballs wave 2 and GPK wave 1 before these two packs.
Idk, I'm not buying this wave of VS though, and likely won't be a buyer of the GPK vs Madballs line as it continues.
