Hey guys, can I make an /an/ /toy/ thread? I am a dino and kaiju guy but I love animal toys, especially the Asian Giant Hornet made by revoltech and the smaller ones made by Gashapon. Anyone have? Feel free to post any animal toys you enjoy.

The large one in front of godzilla is the revoltech giant hornet and the smaller ones are the series 1 bandai suzumebachi gashapons

Yup. It's a carnivorous water flea. The only one of that set I have. I used to work with plankton in a lab years ago.
I also got this pill bug years back. Sadly I have not yet got the matching Dango Mushi one.
I did just order some new ones.

I also just found a RevoGeo crab for a decent price. The box is damaged but unopened. I'm gonna open that shit up and put it on my desk, so I don't care.
I also got some Dango Mushi and a Bandai wasp for a cousin's kids. The wasp is a bit more complex, so I'll give that to the 14 year old and the bugs to the 12 year old.

Most of the ones I have don't have articulation, but they still look great.
I even got a book showing of all the Kaiyodo gacha and box figures from over the years. There are a TOOOON of animal ones.

Well, I assume everything is getting inflated in price in the second hand market these days. That's about what I paid for it. Seems to be going for like $60 and up on ebay and other sites. I just grabbed it along with some other stuff I was getting at Manda.

G.I.Joe Classified has some good articulated 1/12 scale animals.
Snake Eyes come with a wolf
Croc Master will come with a crocodile
Spirit will come with an eagle
Four Horsemen has Balius the horse, a fantastic figure
They have a moose as well on a similar body
Dungeons and Dragons has a 2-pack with a solid black panther figure

I'm hoping for a lot more of these kinds of toys. I had tons of animal figurines as a kid, but now want articulation in addition to detailed sculpts.

i donated some of the dangomushi revos and i put some in the locker in the basement of my building
man maybe one day i can go pick them out but ill just say this
the dangomushi gacha is fucking top fucking tier there is no other toy like it hands fucking down
its a buy from me buddy trust me its worth the markup price and middleman shit as well
my favorite is the ouroboros lizard and the wasp
the mantis cool as shit too but not sturdy if you wanna fuck around and play with them like i do with army men etc

The only thing that sucks about dangomushi is that theyve gotten hard to find since Bandai hasnt made any pillbugs recently. They did release stag beetles, but shipping is always going to add that much more to the cost. Mind you, I think these are worth more than 500 yen each

For the longest time my local Ollie's had these bootleg transformers that were insects, one was a roach and I almost bought it a bunch of times but slacked too long and it finally disappeared. Can't remember the name of it to look for it online. Anyway, I will use this thread to pledge admiration for my favorite bug figure of all time, Beast Wars Manterror. Sexy colors, kick-ass robot mode, tons of articulation for the time, and a flawless mantis transformation. Plus a super fun disk shooting gimmick that works surprisingly well.

Based and speaking of beast wars and wave mates, I can't help but love the pill bugs. They make me happy even if they don't have working arms. I'd love some kind of reissue or a conversion kit that let's me keep everything looking near identical mold wise

The packaging was a clamshell with a shiny silver card that had an the toyline name in blue raised text. The figure was in roach mode and the packaging had an open bubble that you could view it from both sides. I'm struggling to remember what the other figures were but I know they were all insects, I want to say maybe one was a grasshopper but I can't recall for sure, and there were maybe four in the line total. I really liked the roach, it was made in kind of a transparent/shiny orange plastic with a brown tint, the plastic looked very rubbery and soft though.

The insect modes were, and the transformations were just the lazy "stand it up into a vaguely humanoid form" technique but with really smooth limbs and bodies aside from the bug shit attached, and all of them had the same kind of semi-translucent plastic with like a pearlescent shine molded in the plastic. I want to say it was the early 2010's when I would see them there, so it's not a really old toy but old enough I'm having trouble remembering or finding anything about it.

Actually I'm dumb and just found a lead finally, they were by MGM and called Legend of Nara Metamorphs. And I was wrong on most details I could remember about them kek. I think I was maybe maybe conflating some of their details with the Mega Bloks Magna Man line, for some reason. Anyway, he's the cool roach.

I picked up a few when wal-mart had those big after christmas toy clearance sales years ago. Quality is pretty good, the joints are ball and socket. They allow a wide range of motion and can be popped apart fairly easily. Liked them enough that I used their questions or comments e-mail address to ask if they were going to keep making more. They replied to say they were going in another direction for future toy sales. If they did keep going I would've bought them, even without the transforming gimmick they are nice insectoid action figures which seems like a fairly rare thing to find.

There are three main starting families for helping with arachnophobia. Salticids (jumpers) because they're cute and smart (you can teach them tricks), Eresids (velvets) because they're cute and social (some can live in big family units and even solitary ones have exceptional parental skills) and Theraphosids (tarantulas, specifically you would want to look at South American species as they can be well tempered compared to Asian species). I would suggest looking up pink-toed tarantulas, they're very dainty and shy, bites are virtually unheard of and they behave much like cats.

I see two problems from the get-go. Jumping spiders LOOK cute, but the idea of a spider that can suddenly leap at my face is terrifying. I also find the idea of thicc hairy legs terrifying, so tarantulas are out (I also don't like the idea of them kicking hairs at me and making me all itchy or irritated). Eresids look the most viable so far, but if they are fast moving that's probably out too, it freaks me the fuck out when spiders suddenly dart at you at warp speed.

Jumpers are typically quiet small, they can jump but they won't be reaching your face. But they may jump onto your hand, which can be a bit much for some. You can offer your finger and watch the spider follow it with it's eyes (they can actually turn their larger postmedian eyes within the sockets but if you move around fast enough they'll have to shift their entire cephalon) and take control of the situation by inviting the spider to jump on you. They have chemotactile receptors on the legs and they typically struggle to navigate arm hairs so they won't just take off willy-nilly, they'll investigate, find you a bit salty (literally, not the internet kind) and then they typically return to the substrate if you keep them close enough to it. Eresids are slow moving around humans because (like most spiders) they're sensitive to sound and movement, so your vastly larger size will make them slightly nervous (they are not biters, neither are jumpers) so they will typically stay still or move very slowly. Tarantulas are a bit of a wild card and a lot more easily upset about handling so I agree if you are uncomfortable with them to let them be. I've always loved spiders (I'm a araneologist, it comes with the territory) but I had the same phobic reaction to moths and it was crippling (best time to find spiders is also the best time to get mobbed by moths if you use a torch), I only overcame it with hands on physical contact, but that doesn't work for everyone and it's both best for you and these animals if you take it the way that works best for you.

i live in SEAsia so jumping spiders used to be plentiful and comes in varying types.
its pretty easy to catch them too, normally when you find 2 large leaves sticking on top of each other with webs in between, those are their nests.
