Who here doesn't just display their toys, but actually plays with them too? I'm talking full on colliding toys with each other while shouting "PEW! PEW!". I'm talking names, backstories, character development for each of your toys.

We have his thread every few months and the answer is always no, it’s only possible to do that kind of play in your adulthood if you have autism. I don’t mean that as an insult but literally. But we do have some folks with autism here

I never did that, even as a kid. I mostly just posed them and tried to make dioramas or sets and then imagined what was happening, conversations and what not. When I'd "change scenes" in my head I'd repose them.

I do, though sometimes i like having them around me as little friends since im pretty lonely and dont really have alot of friends desu, so they watch TV with me

I set up my police officer action figures and various emergency vehicles for the zombie hoarde coming. If its not raining out ill play ambiance thunderstorm asmr. I pretend its storming and patrol is about to get bad. Sometimes ill pretend its raccoon city. Ill do radio relay voice like “delta 55 copy we got some activity a call of a battery. Hes biting multiple people.” I will drive my figures to the scene and they will engage trying to stop the suspect. Generally a “why the fuck is he bleeding and eyes white” will ensue. It ends with a shooting. I then get back on my mini walkie talking and tell all units “be cautious we just got attacked”. I look at the call log in the police car “its not real i imagine it”. And i see a bunch of calls for service of accidents and attacks and assist other service y. Gasp. Its gonna be a long rain. I do a lot of imagination and fun scenes. Sometimes setting up vehicle wrecks or taking shelter in the pd station *a convection oven box and various shoe boxes. The rain pounds on and the phone lines are down. All hell is breaking loose. So yes i do.

Never did this as a child. Had tmnt, street sharks and bucky ohare because I liked the shapes and colours. All the action was in my imagination or on TV.

You've just failed to keep strengthening your imagination, yes it's hard as an adult. Very hard, most of the time I just stare at them and try to come up with something in my head.

That's bullshit, there's plenty of other ways to use your imagination and creativity as an adult than roleplaying with plastic toys.
In fact, I can come up with more complex storylines for playing with my toys than I could as a kid, but the idea of enacting them usually stops being interesting after a certain age.

If you still enjoy it more power to you, but don't act like you're more imaginative for doing that.

Adults who keep strengthening their imagination learn to channel it into writing and art and music composition and game design. Not playing with toys.
Don't get me wrong I did the same thing with my toys as a youth but I eventually realized I was wasting my energy coming up with stories for others' creations and began making my own characters and plots from ground zero.

You should buy some of the retro stuff matchbox is doing, these playsets bring me right back to the early 90's, when I played with cars on the floor.

I do this but also write them down if I can be bothered so I can look back on and enjoy them later. Sometimes I take pictures and I have dreams of editing them into the panels of a comic just for myself to keep my editing skills sharp.

Depends on how you define "play". I can't do the make-believe play I did as a kid, with stories and voices and all, but I do fiddle with them a lot, especially during boring remote meetings. Triggering gimmicks, changing accessories, posing them into little scenarios, that type of thing.

A little. I like to whoosh jet TransFormers around. Or dynamically transform TransFormers in general like in the commercial bumpers (helps when they're not stupidly complicated). But that's really the extent of it.

By myself? No. But I have kids now, so I get to play with them all the time. We have a ton of fun, like making a huge block city populated with Little People and lego men and then an earthquake happens destroying the city, and we have first responders in Tonka helicopters, the Fisher Price fire trucks & police cars dispatched from the Rescue Heroes base go in and save the people in the ruins. We also got a shit ton of GeoTrax trains & rails, so I’ll set them up and while they’re playing, I’ll come in with a Sky Racer toy and do strafing runs like a WWII documentary. They scream and laugh and it’s awesome.

I still play with them. There's times when I really want to play with them more but for whatever reason I don't touch them for weeks at a time. I miss when I was a kid and could play with them for hours but now I'm lucky to get like 10 minutes whenever I get a new figure.

I've tried to do the old playtime kinda thing I used to do as a kid but I can never seem to do it. Which is odd because I make up and run little stories through my head involving characters k have in figure form all the time. In fact, if I don't have a character as a toy, I usually omit them from whatever little storyline I have going on in my autistic head.
