The only tourists here are people who buy their first set or are looking for a gift for their LEGO-obsessed family/spouse, which is noticeable by their lack of hatred for the brand. As a kid, I'd self insert my own characters. With the original line, you'd get a Harry Potter with every set so I'd keep one and change out the heads to make my own characters within that universe.

I went to my local target today and even though I haven't bought a lego set in like 10 years I went to the lego isle just out of curiosity to see what kind of sets there were these days and the shelves were pretty bare, except for dozens of Friends and Seinfeld sets and some other stupid shit like a bonzai tree that were obviously not selling well at all. I don't get the target demographic for those and why they mass produced so many, feels like it should be an exclusive item on their website instead of on store shelves because obviously no one is buying this crap.

To be honest though, I wasn't impressed at all with what I saw in terms of the star wars and other themed sets, though the creator castle set looked kind of neat. The slave I looked like shit, and everything is so damn expensive these days. I actually wanted to just get a small kit or whatever but decided not to because of how expensive things were. Like back in the day an AT-ST was like $20 and they're charging $50 for the one on the shelf. I get it has more pieces and detail and everything but still, it's not that large of a kit.

I might actually pop in the lego store next time I'm at my local mall though just to browse through, it's strange, I don't really like Lego anymore but being on that isle really made me just want to buy a kit even though they don't interest me much anymore.

Not to play the devils advocate, but the $20 from 15 years ago (The one 2nd from the left) is like 1/3rd smaller than the new one, only comes with 1 figure (Compared to the new one's 3, 4 if you count the Probe Droid build), and is based more on the original ESB design for the AT-ST rather than the ones that show up in ROTJ. If you really want to complain about price gouging, compare the $50 Slave I from 2006 to the $50 Boba Fett's Starship from last year.

I don't know technically how it could be done, but from your picture, it seems like the silver lines on the handle could've been made from a type of fender pieces for cars/speed champions. some of the lines on the head of the hammer couldv' been made with gaps between the pieces, but the symbols would surely be stickers. which is fine.

Has anyone ever replaced the baseplates on their modular buildings with regular plates? Or any other large build that uses baseplates for that matter? I want to layout some buildings next to the old kino road plates but I don't have a lot of space so I want to put the modulars on top of the 8 or 9 studs on the side of the road plate. So I need to take the modular off the existing baseplate and then put it all down on four 16x16 plates. Then it can sit on top of the road plate and whatever other baseplate I want under it and extending behind it. This seems like a lot of work though. (I don't want to just put the road plate against the modular plate because my city doesn't need huge sidewalks and I want to save space.)

Prepare to suffer anon.
You can probably yank a good chunk of the entire building together, assuming it's not full of fragile SNOT connections, but you'll have to manually move anything directly attached to the baseplate. The brick separators that you keep losing will help.

Or you could take the opportunity to upgrade to New Road Plates™
Then you just need to find some foam core card stock that lifts the baseplates by enough.

This was how I modded my Modulars in order to incorporate a road system into them. If you don't care about plates shifting around constantly you could gut the blue layer and just build on top of the baseplates I suppose.

It was a neat build the guy I got it from had added 4 2x1 plates to strengthen the wing pylons and those tan technic blocks but I couldn't see a place for them and aren't on the brick list.

Sadly only one of the stickers has survived to my ownership and the vader is missing his Cape and came with an orange lightsaber. Will probably pick up the vultures tomorrow or the weekend.

Absolutely do this. Sell them to someone who wants a copy+pasted city layout, and build something unique of your own. I much prefer custom built stuff because SO many people just have the same modulars and whatnot. The money can go a long way for buying a few old / retired sets and some bricklink orders.

The more you build, the more you get better at stuff too. Like with modulars, you can build a few to get a feel for the building style and details, then you can try emulating them in your own. Use the sets as inspiration and learning building styles rather than a crutch to fill a layout.

I have limited space so I will buy a set, build it, keep it around for a year, and then resell it (often for a profit, amazingly). I do this with vintage stuff too - build it to get a feel for the theme, re-sell the set, and buy some of the key elements to make a MOC that feels era correct.

This is what I've been doing the last few months. I'm selling pretty much my entire collection except the few sets I actually want to keep because they either have sentimental value or I just like them.

I still love Lego, but I don't have any admiration for the current line of sets available these days. Nothing really is inspirational anymore.

Because sometimes you lose passion for a hobby and you fall out of love with it. It happened to me with Lego, first when I was a teenager I stopped getting sets as presents and whatnot in the early 2000s, then I got back into it in 2006 and have now kind of lost interest again over the last few years as I have moved into other hobbies like scale models and woodworking.

Once you realize you have a finite amount of space in your house and something has to go, well Lego makes the most sense for me because it takes up way too much space, and it still has a decent value so I can turn my collection into cash and even make more than I paid for the sets originally to fund my other hobbies. I still buy the occassional set, but I no longer try to actually collect stuff. My Star Wars collection is huge and it alone is taking me months to sell the stuff I don't want.

Thanks for the replies. It continually annoys me that Jang's new road plates "solution" video appears at the top of google results when searching for any kind of baseplate/road solution, especially when I am not even googling about the new soulless roadplates. And using some kind of stupid posterboard for everything to sit on? Jang complains that baseplates are not "in system" and then he uses shit that isn't even Lego! Thats the dumbest idea and so many people stupidly praise it. I like this other anons idea, but I want to use the classic roadplates instead of constructing my own roads. I'm going to put some modulars and the chinese new year park on regular plates. Wish me luck, I'm going to start with the biggest modular of all.

I was in the middle of patenting the cardstock foamcore lift idea before Jang stole it. At least it's not as dumb as simply stuffing a bunch of loose plates under the baseplate.

Otherwise, I always wondered why nobody ever integrated the modulars with road baseplates. Is that too much forethought for most?
Also please show how well you managed to break off a building and keep track of how many tiles jettison into the nether underneath your furniture.

Lord of the Rings is back in 2023 under the Middle Earth Collection branding. This theme will, feature sets based on the PJ LotR and Hobbit trilogies, the upcoming Rings of Power show and War of Rohirrim anime film. Lego worked a deal with New Line, WB and Amazon to produce sets on all 4 properties. First wave will release in January 2023.

Here is a pic of my progress. The first floor of the left and center buildings came off pretty clean, but the bakery on the right is a bit of a mess because of the front door and complicated windows. One piece did go flying when I removed the build from the baseplate and I can't tell if it went behind me or in front of me because I was wearing headphones at the time which disrupted my ability to hear where it landed in my office. I can't find it yet but I'm confident it will turn up soon.

I really like the mecha dinosaur and the mini volcano is cool. these dinos make me want to create a zoids moc once I get a few more I'll have enough parts to try it out. I don't like the t rex skeleton very much the hands are really stupid and it falls off the base if you even brush it. the parts are kind of crap too but it will be neat for a display

The color scheme on the new creator set is somewhat off. The mix of blue/brown/navy, mixing in tans and the red in the banners doesn't seem quite right.

It's meant to be modified and played with though and is an excellent set. It could look so much better though.

So I havent really got time to improve the tiny stuff ive made last week, but I went to the toy store on my way back home and saw the base plates, I had to get that large blue one for making an island easily.
I saw the minifigs serie22 and got one which was the acorn kid, its pretty cute and the mushroom adds a touch of red among the grass' green palette which i like a lot

AND they had that 3in1 shark, had to get it

you should check out trailmakers. it's open world and the progression is kinda puzzle based where you build your vehicle and unlock more parts then upgrade your vehicle so you can reach new parts and that's the gameplay loop. it's literally a rip off though

I met this guy, he's pretty chill
He's not affiliated with LEGO and something I really respect about him is that he doesn't try to piggyback some divisive politics on top of the toy we all love, he uses it as an artistic medium.
He did an event where we built masks, and talked a bit about issues.
Honestly, he shares many of our concerns regarding zog, banksters, big gov't, just from a different perspective.

So I rebuilt these 2 incomplete sets I picked up a while ago the fire truck is missing its minifig and equipment and the nozzle is missing from the hose.

The plane was only missing the radar slope piece from inside, a 2x2 grey tile, one engine (had spares) and one of the technic pin joiner (replaced with black round bits). Only had one minifig from the set and I don't have the bits to remake the shuttle, all in all happy enough with the purchase.

Absolutely loved this set. I was a lucky kid and found multiple copies on clearance. I liked the thing so much I stupidly model glued one together, which has forced me to always own one and haul it around everywhere. Might be a blessing and a curse, as otherwise Id've sold it by now.

Start right now buying them off ebay and buy parts from bricklink. Full figures are usually more expensive, but you have lots of parts to pick from. Several CMFs are Viking or similar. And of course vikings ones. As soon as the actual set is released (if it is), all the parts go up in value.

I don't think so. Usually creator sets have bare bones figs to keep prices down and focus on the pieces. That is a $5 retail fig, they might reuse the helmet and beard molds.
