Extreme example, Mattel's DCMV was like 3% sculpt, 10% articulation and 87% shit.

For most companies now it's now about 75% articulation and 25% sculpt. That said I feel like Yamaguchi is one of the few sculptors who is excellent at both except for human male faces: he sometimes has issues there IMO.

For some companies it used to be closer to even on their priorities, for McFarlane it used to be balanced even further towards sculpt and depending on the figure down to almost nothing on articulation as we all know.

Which companies are these?
Mafex, Figma, Hasbro (arguable), NECA, McFarlane, Super7,Mezco, JAzwares, Joy Toy, Hiya Toys, Squaresoft, etc etc, they still put an emphasis on sculpt and don't care that the sculpt is blocking the joints.

As far as I'm aware, REvoltech still does their weird shit and Bandai has started to do weird shit too.

This is what a 50%-50% split looks like. 25%-75% favoring sculpt is something like McFarlane's original Raven Spawn which moves -- has 16poa -- but is mostly swivels. ~100% sculpt is the cover art McFarlane statues like Santa Spawn that basically can't move at all.

Now do you see why I lump most of those companies in to 75%-25% articulation? Most make their figures ugly for the sake of articulation. Take a look at the abomination that is the play arts Aeris in dress' joints for example.

yeah, that's not 50/50 split to me.

Sculpt = every part that is sculpted.
Articulation/joint = every part that is an actual joint and parts of the sculpt that has been cut out to make room for the joint or range of motion.
So a toy that is just swivels like a Kenner Star Wars figure is 99% sculpt and 1% joint.
Which means even Revoltechs are something like 90% sculpt and 10% joints.

So i assumed you were trying to say a company like Bandai is 25% sculpt and 75% joints because they have the weird joints showing up in very obvious ways and Revoltechs being much more. Actual percentage value is just hyperbole

None of the companies i listed are like Bandai, muchless Revoltech. They still retain most of teh sculpt and don't have the joints showing in disjointed ways in most poses and angles.

Pretty shit that Bandai is copying Play Arts Kai circa 2010 and actually making it worse looking.

Ugly double joints are the most widespread trade off of sculpt for articulation. Pic related is about the ugliest I've seen but there are many more that are less offensive. Ball wrists and ankles that are not hidden are another. Butterfly joints and ab crunches that break up the midsection are another. The more of these a figure has, the more it moves towards focusing on articulation over a good looking sculpt.

Many of the companies you listed there have ugly double jointed knees and elbows, many of them have ball wrists and ankles, most (all?) have ab crunches, many have butterfly joints. Modern McFarlanes for example actually usually have all these (and more)

i disagree, because they were fine for decades and were integrated extremely well. The joint is literally part of the sculpt. And i also don;'t think the pins are any more intrusive than other similar systems, since lines like Figma and Figuarts cut out sculpt to make room for the joints, with the former making it looking Faun-ishy in profile.
It's just differently engineered, vs that piece of shit that you posted, that Naruto Figuarts or PAKs.

Not even sure why WCT's even did that to their new Master cheif figure, because the former figures werent that bad.

Most ball ankles and wrists look ugly as sin when not hidden. There are some figures that do it right, but plenty more where it's just out there. And some where it's way too big and really noticeable like Red Son Superman

Kinnikuman SHF went full swing articulation a while ago. It depends on the character for most Japanese brands. They don't use a universal body type usually.

Bad is stuff like pic. The one on the left isn't, at least in profile. Looks busy with all the mechanics showing, but it's easily ignorable from a distance.
The one on the right? It makes it look like a skeleton is wearing socks. Just a thin ass protruding peg connecting to the foot.

Still, just shows how there's only certain companies moving toward not caring about sculpt for the sake of articulation, but the majority still care.

I really miss DCC. They actually made it look like it came out of the comic, instead of the toy-ish look Mafex has.
Mafex needs to invest in better paint apps, because they're way too flat looking. But maybe the sculpt is just off.

Carnage and Venom were great too, but they could be made of the shiniest glossiest Mattel plastic and not look out of place.

It's the same body mold as the existing Flash figure. That lightning effect on the back foot is limiting for actual running poses (could for a "running start" pose where the front leg is knee up, perhaps). Rarely does a runner have both feet touching the ground.

Microwave some water for about 3-4 minutes to soak the wrist and soften it, then you can probably wedge it out with a safety pin or something similar so long as it's not actually glued in like >>9610958 said.

Mezco has more of the Frank Miller grit for the face/head, albiet the body can't capture anything because of the real clothes vs sculpted form.
Mafex's looks more like the animated version. too smooth. Almost looks like an Andy Kubert rendition of DKR.

DCC's is still best Dark Knight Returns.

But back to the point: cape definitely looks better on the Mezco. Mafex's doesn't even look like it has one there.
