Yes. They were a series of long serials: all but the first (featuring the Comet People and the Horde) were written by Chris Weber, and his first 4 story arcs were serialized over 13 1/2 months, introducing all the New for 87 characters except the Energy Zoids and Clamp Champ (about whom more in a bit), plus King Hiss. I don't mention Rattlor and Tung Lashor because they're brought in from Etheria: just like the late mini-comics, the comic strip treated itself as a Filmation sequel. We even see the Collector, and the Royal Palace is drawn as the Filmation version.
In Weber's fifth arc, "Attack on Snake Mountain", which began December 7 of '87, he remembered to introduce Clamp Champ, as a cocky man who feels he has something to prove, which a compromised councilor exploits to get him to try to destroy Snake Mountain(!).
The strip continued to run after there were no new toys to advertise, only ending after a New Adventures arc that started around the same month as the cartoon.
The stories are at their most interesting when Weber has to showcase characters who got very little fiction: "Vengeance of the Viper King" isn't necessarily better than the Snake Men mini-comics, but has some interesting elements like Hiss and Skeletor bringing the snake wrapped around Snake Mountain to life 16 years before the 200X cartoon. "Ninjor Stalks by Night" is a longer, better showing for Ninjor than "The Search for Keldor", with Scare Glow and Blast Attak in supporting roles. In an interesting parallel, Skeletor's plan is to have them kidnap King Randor and Prince Adam so he can land at the palace gate and fill the vacancy on the throne... but it's never explained that he's the king's brother! (con't)

Ninjor also has a fascinating backstory that leads to the next arc, "Terror Takes Time", where Hurricane Hordak and Mosquitor travel back in time to when the only intelligent Eternians were savage Snake Men (no King Hiss, or any political organization at all) with Etherian slaves to fill his timeship with the only material Castle Grayskull could be constructed of.
Oddly, while the arcs each pick up where the previous left off, there seems to be a gap before "Evil Under the Stars" to accomodate the brief (and bad) movie trio mini-comic. This serial starts with Blade and Saurod stranded on Eternia. Blade is from another planet called Merrian, and he convinces Evil-Lyn to get away from Skeletor's bad leadership and go conquer Merrian with him, roping in Saurod and Beast Man. It's an interesting, complex plan that involves misusing one of Gwildor's inventions, which prevents magic portals forming, and then a team of Heroic Warriors (including Evil-Lyn disguised as a female Thenurian rescued from the other 3 villains against her will) taking an experimental starship to Merrian in lieu of magic.
One thing you notice is that Weber wasn't comfortable with the toyetic nature of MotU (Rio Blast and Extendar have minor roles that never show off their gimmicks), and the plots don't get better when he's left to his own devices with the core cast (which is joined by Gwildor and Man-At-Arms' engineer girlfriend, with occasional reappearances by Clamp Champ).

Which vintage characters have been teased in Origins package art that we're still waiting on?

King Randor, Mantenna and I think Whiplash, for whom we have a purported leak.
Moss Man, Sy-Klone, Kobra Khan, Spikor, Two-Bad, Modulok, Leech. If the leak is true, that's enough basics to fill '22 plus a third deluxe and a box set.
So how many of pic related do you think we'll get made before anyone from '86, Sssqueeze, Snake Face, Blast Attack or the movie trio?

I didn't expect any of my pics to be used as an OP pic.

After a day they are much better, no more slimy residue feeling after touching them, however they're still varying levels of stickiness.

Leech is the worst; limbs the most sticky, and even his body feels like there's something still on there.

Next is Randor and Clamp Champ; their arms and especially legs are still pretty bad, and the spotting didn't go away.

Sun Mans are decent for the most part. Again, it's mainly the arms and legs that have an oily feel to them.

Adam and Skeletor are only slightly tacky to the touch to begin with, and they aren't all that different now.

Gwildor's head is still sticky, but I remember it always being a little sticky for as long as I had him.

Should I wash them again? Should I use something other than dish soap?

Let's see...

1) Sky High uses Man-E's lower half, standard torso and upper arms, gauntlet forearms, a new head and cuirass. Everything but the 2 new parts will be ready to go if they make Tung Lashor or someone else with gauntets.
2) Delora has a different torso and forearms than any other woman, though if they make Adora her torso should be close enough. That's 3 new body parts plus a miniskirt and reused wings.
3) Obelisk Dude is just the standard buck with the legs transitioning to Modulok ones at some point and a new head.
4) Gladiator is He-Man with Skeletor forearms, Zodac's armor and a new head.
5) Missile Toad can be done with a new head once Tung Lashor and Modulok are made.
6) Purple cyclops looks like a lot of new parts.
7) Pterosaur Rider looks like the standard buck in purple, mixing the two types of forearms (He-Man) and lower legs (Skeletor) with Tri-Klops harness and a head with or without removable helmet.
8) Purple Octavia has a ton of new parts.
9) Concept Dylamug might be 100% new.
10) Broomhilda looks mostly new.
11) Medieval Guard is hard to call: it would depend on whether the tunic is soft goods or new shirt torso/skirt hips/short-sleeve upper arms.
12) Custar looks 100% new.
13) I have no idea why they teased a comet man who isn't Stonedar or Rokkon.
14) Skeleton Warrior looks 100% new.
15) Armor Woman looks like 3 new parts, if they fake the gauntlets with standard female bracers.
16) Snow Man looks like Beast Man and/or Grizzlor body with gauntlets and a new head.

So I say 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 & 16 will start appearing in basic waves to keep tooling costs down. MAYBE 2 & 15, but there are a lot of other female characters they could do with only 1-2 new parts by starting Princess of Power.

Predictions on the New For 23 deluxe He-Man and Skeletor?
Dragon Blaster Skeletor would be easy to remake, and I'm expecting the other two water-squirters to be deluxes, but it's generally thought that Mattel wouldn't dare do caps, and He-Man with Thunder Punch's harness, shield and recolored Power Sword wouldn't justify deluxe price.

I've have best results adding a scrub with alcohol, but obviously you have to be careful to avoid any painted areas. This vintage yellow Beast Man armour felt disgusting when I got it, but now it's not sticky at all.

At least as I understand it, once a toy starts leaking plasticizer, it won't stop, it's a breakdown of the plastic. You can clean it, and it might stop for a while, but it will return.

Just Khan, Sy Klone, Moss Man, Randor, Two Bad, Spikor, all the original Horde guys. Side note, I'm surprised thry haven't teased Mekaneck or Whiplash yet.

Out of the pic you posted, I think the only ones that stand a chance of coming out sooner rather than later are the frog (just because of the hype surrounding him), the cyclops, Dragon rider and skeletons (because they were all on the Grayskull box, making them highly visible compared to the rest) and the gladiator because he looks easiest.
Dylamug and Octavia I think are gonna be reserved in the wings for when they run our of toy Horde...which honestly won't take long relatively speaking. We already know Grizzlor and Mantenna are in the works, that just leaves Leech and Dragstor as regular figures, with Modulok and Multi-bot being some kind of special releases. So that's 4 waves before you have to go outside vintage or retire the Horde. But by the time they reach thst point, they'll have probably started in on those other guys you mention anyway (I'm fully expecting Wrap Trap at some point too, if we dig into concept Horde)

Those are the only ones right now that I'm 100% confident are coming. I really want the witch, Snowman and Custar, but I'm less confident about for now.
The rest I couldn't care less whether or not they come.

It's all about perspective, I guess. That Beast Man armour had years of leaked plasticiser on it and felt disgusting - 10 mins later it felt great and has stayed the the same for weeks now. If it starts feeling a little tacky again, I'll spend another 10mins sorting it.

So just use rubbing alcohol on a rag? I use the same thing to clean the keyboard and mouse. It doesn't leave the things sticky the way other cleaners do, and it's cheaper with less waste than using alcohol wipes.

Vinyl care products like armoral supposidly help with sticky vintage SW figures. I would give that a go before using anything ethenol or iso. Likely going to take some paint with that. I was wiping a vintage FF with iso and red paint was coming off

I'll confess I just use a smidge of vodka poured into a bottle top (I get a load for Christmas each year through Polish family members) and applied via the corner of a barely-dampened folded cloth, but yes denatured alcohol would do just as good a job. Between teasing this, and filing a trademark on Granita not long ago I have to wonder...are they planning to make enough Rockmen for a full faction, like a good guy equivalent to the Snakemen?

Also if you're not terribly anal about how it looks, you could just place the figures' hands around the grip so the thumb is curled around the handle but not the rest of the hand.

I wont lie I love MotU (sorta liked it cause of my mom growing up but never was super into it until last year when i finally watched the new She-Ra, Revelations, and the 200x cartoon)
and the fandom seems pretty cool and chill overall but man do I get sick of some of the really loud "anti-woke"/"anti-SJW" people (i know theyre the minority here and not the majority but god damn)
He-Man has always been a bit more inclusive than most series out there and its just so dumb listening to people complain about completely stupid things
Maybe its cause im younger than the average fan (im only in my 20s) but i just dont understand why it matters so much. Heaven forbid any of the girls get to be cool or theres a few more minority characters. Who cares? Its just more representation and diversity, and He-Man and the main dudes arent going anywhere so why the fuck does it matter desu

The Sorceress wants heroes and Evil-Lyn to save the world and Andra is like "Let's do it!" while all the vintage characters have the reservation "But I hate the world" or some other reason to be emo, like Orko being terminally ill.
Between the writing and the fact that VA Tiffany Smith is the exact age to have been a fan from kindergarten, she brings most of the positive energy in the first half.

Would you call Revelation a She-Ra/POP series? There were some easter eggs about Eternia, but that's about it. There is technically (and in terms or real world rights) a divide between He-Man and MOTU and She-Ra and POP.

On a side note, call me crazy but I liked all the recent shows, Netflix She-Ra, Revelation, and CGI. I'm probably easy to please.

I think that's one of the biggest issues to me. He-Man is pretty inclusive with all sorts of characters. I think that is what is annoying seeing people complain these new shows need to make He-Man more 'woke' or 'inclusive' or whatever as if what exists wasn't enough. It gets a little tiring because it is never enough and there is never an end goal. As long as the new characters and things are cool and they dont take away from the old characters in the process, then I think most fans would be happy for new stuff. It is just annoying when you see people praise or scorn a character or story for being too inclusive or not inclusive enough. They just need to let us enjoy these toys and characters as they are. Best to just ignore both sides of the aisle like >>9600976 said.

So I got my first MotU figures since the 20XX series in today and I think I'm pretty much back into the MotU stuff again. Stridor is more fun then I thought he'd be and I'll probably grab more and build myself a small squad of em. hopefully Night Stalker gets a release as well, cause this would look fantastic in black and purple, especially if he had new helmets.

Tri-klops is also pretty neat, though not as surprisingly good as Stridor. His Revelation robes are nice, though I prefer his more classic look. I am kind of disappointed he doesn't have any kind of loop or sheath to carry his sword on his armor. Trap-Jaw is also on my want list, but I need to see better pics of his face, cause the one's I've seen just look goofy. I do have Viking He-Man and Barbarian Skeletor pre-ordered, as I feel they look better then the wave 1 versions of the characters, and I really wanna get a few other main cast characters and nostalgia bait figures.

I really prefer the classic looks over the Relevation designs though, so here's hoping we see some more remakes of the original designs and less updates from the meh show.

MotU Wreckers would probably just be the 1986 guys since they get the least attention
Extendar, Rio Blast, Snout Spout, Rokkon, maybe Rotar, outside chance of 1 non vintage guy just to really cut deep (Dekker might be a good choice, be their Kup), and then stick a popular 3rd stringer as leader...I'd choose Mekaneck. Make him a tough guy for once.

MotU Suicide Squad would be fun, because they have a HUGE catalog of underused villains, and there no faction restriction because the squad is always prisoners forced to work together.
Stick Mosquitor in charge, have Clamp Champ as their "handler", pad out a team with Webstor, Blast Attak, Saurod, that broomstick riding witch, Tung Lashor, Strongarm and Goat Man just to cherry pick. And as guys like Saurod and Goat Man inevitably bite it, drag in Dragstor and Twistoid and keep going

I feel you; I'll often finish an episode of my steady Filmation watch-through, pop over to this thread and find myself wondering what even brought some posters with more vitriolic opinions to this franchise in the first place. Funny enough, I'm not a usual in this thread either, but I just picked up Stridor recently because he looked like a fun horse. It may be hard to see, but >>9601352 has Revlations Tri-Klops riding inside, and he's much bigger then most marvel legends and other 1/12 stuff, and he fits just fine. I don't know how well Neca figures will work though, I imagine it depends on the figure itself. But size-wise, Stridor should be able to fit most 1/12 figures with decent leg articulation.

They certainly didn't know how to advertise toys for a "non-action" action cartoon like She-Ra. Which is a shame cause a lot of concepts and designs were pretty neat and could've been good updates to many characters. The people behind the show clearly had no intention of merchandising it, which is pretty much the opposite of how all other MotU based animated series worked.

That said, I wouldn't say no to Masterverse versions of Nu-Ra designs. But they wouldn't really look anything like the characters from the cartoon in the end. For that, you'd need like Figma or Figuarts type figures, and that'll never happen.

I think so, I'd like to hope so. The distribution has been whacky, like most toys these days. The newer Origins ones usually don't shelf-warm that much though. I think another issue is that stores like Target and Walmart increased their prices. Mine has Origins at $21 now. They even increased the price of the Rise of Evil 2-pack to $35 one time. Then again that Target also is pretty stupid with a lot of other things, so maybe its just that one Target.

I always got the feel they were meant to be a Horde of rampaging monsters, originally. Then when the actual She-Ra show came out, they got turned into a Star Wars style evil Empire to make them more of a planetary threat for She-Ra, than a 3rd chaotic faction that antagonizes both He-Man and Skeletor.

Same here. There is a lot of potential when it comes to imagination. Like you could have a temporary truce between two sides to stop the other side who got some super power that they need to stop. Or have one group indifferent to the others, so if there is a fight they either dont want to get involved or have to pick a side. Or just in general them getting together every once in a while.

I have Origins piling up. I got Skelegod today, I like it, but I don't really want to spend $22 each on Revelations on top of Origins. I kind of like some of the Netflix ones but haven't been all that tempted to buy any yet. Mattel is also still stingy when it comes to accessories, alt left gripping hands should be standard, not a luxury.

Just a general observation I've had watching fans talk that this put me in mind of:
>MotU fans typically prefer the toy designs for characters and value the original line over any tie in fiction
>PoP fans, on the other hand, seem to value the cartoon over anything, and when they do get toys, they request thr Filmation designs over the toy designs

I'm sure there are exceptions in both camps, but it's just what seems to be typical attitude of both fandoms.
Case in point: look at how Classics handled both franchises.
MotU shuffled Filmation designs off into subline (Club Grayskull I think it was?) while making Filmation designs the default for PoP

He-Man's filmation characters generally looked at least passably like the toys. She-Ra tended to be vastly different between both to the point most don't even come close. She-Ra minicomcis were also weird, Catra wanted to end the world because she was jealous of She-Ra being prettier or something, with only a passing mention of her cartoon origin of being kidnapped by Hordak.

He's my first, and at this point, only new MoTU figure in years and I'm happy with him for the most part. I am disappointed he doesn't have a sword loop on his armor or something, and the eye choices are kind of boring, but overall he's a solid and fun toy.

Not sure if I really feel like he's worth the "Deluxe" price point, just because he comes with extra armor and a robe I'll never use, But he's certainly enough to convince me to get more guys from this line. I really wanna track down a Fisto, but it seems like I missed the boat on him, unless I get lucky in a store somewhere.

Agree with this. I think they need to rethink these deluxe items a bit, it'd be nice to get more items that can be used at all times rather than "either or" gear, kind of like Orko. Tri-Klops could have come with drones. Also more like Skelegod, just one larger and/or more unique figures. I assume the reason they didn't make Savage He-Man larger was for people who'd buy him as Oo-lar.

Also agree about the sword loop. Some figures have ways to holster their weapons, but that should be moved up to all of them.

You are good, I just got into the franchise last year and am only a bit older than you. I like the filmation stuff and Origins personally. I knew of it but didnt deep deive till recently. I'm curious if younger people prefer the og, revelations, motuc, 200x or cg kids one.
I always got the feeling the og are the most univerally likeable while only the hardcore fans care for the rest. But that might just be my own bias.

Yes. Compared to something like Transformers, MOTU hasn't done the best of jobs attracting young blood. It's been relegated an 80s nostalgia act. Nobody born after the original line ended is an "older" fan. The impression of the 2002 show/toyline was pretty modest.

You'll definitely want at least Mantenna and Modulok, then. They're the most ayyyy. And Grizzlor at the very least is explicitly a "cryptid" because they state as much in his comic.
If retrofuturistic space robots are also your thing (if you lump them in with being aliens), you might also consider Dylamug when and if they make him...he has that flailing tube arm pulp sci-fi vibe that Bender has.

Grizzlor is the one I'm most interested in, he has a really neat wild man look too him though I fear his hair will be unruly and attract dust.
Mantenna looks to be fun too though I think me getting it depends on if they make his legs seperate or not since the original toy looks weird with its fused legs.

I own a couple pulpy robots that hang out with the ayys as well as Titanium Man who I bought to hang out with my Universal Monsters as a generic robot and Dylamug (or at least the one in your picture) fits the look.

Star Wars, Transformers and TMNT would be the big three, I think.
TMNT got a big new infusion of kids in 2003, right when MOTU did not, and again in 2012 (dunno how much Bay contributed). Transformers constantly reinvents itself for a new generation of kids, starting in the mid-90s with Beast Wars and continuing with different cartoon takes concurrent with the Bay movies.
Presumably the Star Wars sequels didn't attract kids because reasons, but it had Clone Wars to create new fans in 2008 after the main generation of prequel kids.

The 2002 brand lived and died in two years and MOTU was never limned up on major store shelves until 2020. Matty club stuff rolled up in Gamestop and Big Lots but that was a different beast. Star Wars got back on toy shelves in the early 90s and has never left, Transformers would depend on how you count Beast Wars but even excluding them Transformers have not left major stores for 22 years, TMNT I believe had a gag between 2011 and 2014 but I might have missed something. MOTU has done better than a lot but it had a near twenty year gap of having toys on the shelves.

Because they were the villains for She-Ra, the Horde ended up being three different themes.
The ones who ended up in the boys' figure line for 1985 were horror monsters.
Between enemy figures for the girls' line and Filmation creating Shadow Weaver and Scorpia, you have a subgroup of women with fantasy powers (witchcraft, beast transformation, being part scorpion, prehensile hair).
And since the the Horde differed from the Evil Warriors by ruling the world instead of being a ragtag group, they needed generic troops, who turned out to be robots because of strict standards around cartoon violence. When developing the Horde Trooper toy fot 86, Mattel made all its wave-mates in the Horde robots too (Multi-Bot and Dragstor).

I think they've gotten better at humans over the years, the human heads in Mythic Legions tend to look good, the main issue there though is they are too big.

Guys from the vintage toyline, yes
Guys who originated as concept art for the vintage line, yes
And guys introduced to the Horde in 200x, yes
But I really have no interest in or any intention to buy any of the Horde that came from either the PoP toyline or was solely created by Filmation. Shadow Weaver is probably the best of the lot, but even there, I find her kind of uninteresting as a toy

You're dead on and have great taste in cryptids. The headless fuzzy torso with big red eyes look is my favourite for mothman too.
I can totally see that being a figure with the overall trademark body posture, but a big torso with grizzlor hair, hard plastic red eyes and a pair of translucent buzz-off style mothwings.

I think having Mosquitor, Dragstory and Leech as like bounty hunters who work for the horde would have been cool

Apparently the team behind the show WANTED to use more motu chars but just werent allowed to. I'm sure they wanted to follow up on all the "lost family" stuff from season 1.

Still i find it hilarious they used tung lasher despite technically not being allowed to which is honestly pretty based

I actually really like how nu-ra handles Hordak a lot more than the original

in the original he felt sorta just like a more evil skeletor and just had no character to him. Also Horde Prime felt pretty redundant cause it just felt like hordak but stronger

I like the whole cult angle they went with and Hordak still being powerful and a pretty bad guy but also sick and needing mechanical parts to ease the pain. It also made horde prime an actual character that was pretty cool and menacing and made both stand out a lot more from skeletor. I also like the tall lean look more than typical bulky look we get personally cause it makes him visually stand out more like a dracula like figure

Ive got one hidden behind some battlecats that are down to $5! So ive got a cringer for adam since i got the warriors set. Waiting for monday to roll by before i get my stridor. Yeah, I have to agree.
When I bought him, I actually thought he was really fun, I had a great time with the alternate head...but he really did get really old really fast.
Same thing happened with Ram Man, Man-at-Arms and Stratos. I'm just bored with them all.

The only heroes that stayed fun were He-Man himself, MEF, Roboto, and surprisingly Fisto.
Makes me debate whether I should even buy the rest as they come out, besides Snout Spout.

They ruined his clamp. It’s no longer automatic so you have to constantly reset it. It’s also a lot flimsier than the vintage one. I also wish he could hold it better. His thumb gets in the way and makes it always pop out of his hand, making it really hard to play with
