While it's not modern, I still think the leap McFarlane toys did from 1996 to 1998 is incredible.
Cy-Gor II is such a robust sculpt. Even the packaging design felt more mature and modern compared to the first few years of McFarlane toys.

There's been figma improvements but the whole line has felt stagnant overall. A figma from 2012 doesn't feel all that different from one today. Just not an exciting line.

You could find statues the quality of the figures on the right when the figures on the left were made. It's just that Bandai didn't take their articulated lines that seriously

I'd argue most companies have seen pretty dramatic improvement over the past few years. Engineering, paint application, sculpting. Everything I feel has been a marked improvement.

Nah, Cy-gor II is dripping with soul. Hand sculpted figures generally do. The fact that every little line of fur was sculpted instead of applied with CAD goes a long way.

Agreed. Most companies have gotten significantly better (even Mattel). Only downfall has been inflation and everything either going up in price or making compromises to keep at the same price point.

It seemed figma was ahead of its time when they started because all their competition died, when they became the dominant ~1/12 anime line they hardly improved, but recently more companies are tackling the market and it's starting to make figma look bad. Hopefully the new market will force them to improve of die.

The Jazwares sonic line (at least the smaller ones) are pretty solid though, although not so much in durability (the later figures kinda became more sturdy with the joints)

I paid $60 for her when she originally came out and I wouldn't buy it for that price either unless you really loved the character.

I had to use some war water to shape the eye patch to the right position. And even then part of her eye is still poking through. It sucks.

Max Factory really didn't seem to care about the Konosuba line despite how much figures it's been getting. The only one with a safe QC would probably be Darkness.

I still want to pre-order Yunyun to add to my order for that month, but Goodsmile's dodgy release dates make it difficult to so.

Mainline Transformers has had a lot of ups and downs. I feel that after 2010, the toys were simplified in response to how complex ROTF toys were. Then you could see Hasbro struggle with cost and gimmicks for a few years. SS and WFC have been great lines with regards to engineering even though value is much less than a decade ago.

Funny enough, I happened to snatch a re-release Aqua figma and idk if I was just lucky, but the QC was actually pretty good. I'm hoping if Megumin ever gets a re-issued, they'll most likely fix the issues.
