Point of interest for folks who autistically follow this kind of thing: With Whiplash showing up on Clawful's box, there is now only ONE character from the whole 1982-1985 era that has not shown up in boxart and that's Mekaneck. You know what means? Either boxart teases are just going to stop for a while, OR we're finally going to start seeing those late line 100% new tooling guys we keep bringing up showing up on cardbacks. Might get our first teases for Snakes.

Wave 9: King Randor, Whiplash, Pig Head (all teased), mini-comics Trap Jaw
Wave 10: Mantenna (teased), 200X Skeletor, Digitino ... and Grizzlor?
Wave 11 could have any two of Sy-Klone, Two-Bad or Leech, with Moss Man and Space Sumo to keep tooling costs down.
So we'll be waiting 12 months for anyone from 1986, the movie, Blast Attack, Sssqueeze or Snake Face.

>>9610028 MAA has a moustache, He-Man's head was updated but they went back on that, Ninjor had sculpted 'armor' rather than cloth, Orko looks completely different, plastic cape on Scareglow, CG, and everything else. I don't think the goal is a straight recreation, though perhaps since the He-Man head stuff it has started to lean more in that direction. The first 3 waves were definitely more like "heavily inspired" by the vintage toy line, rather than an attempt at recreating the same thing.

In the other thread we talked about cryptid Horde members. I sketched up a Mothman that could reasonably be made as a basic figure. He'd mainly need a new head, which would greatly help give him his single body segment shape. The body would have Grizzlor's fur covering over the Buzz-Off body with wings. I'd want Buzz-Off's feet, but Grizzlor's boots would give him Horde logo, and a fuzzy naked moth in boots is funny. He could also get a new belt if tooling allowed. I guess he would come with either Grizzlor or Skeletor arms, and you could just pop them off if you wanted an armless look. Can't decide which color I'd want the transparent wings to be in.

I'd want the latter, personally. We already have 3 Hordaks compared with only having 3 actual minions for him(if you just lump the 3 flavors of Horde Trooper under one banner). Let's at least get Mantenna in hand before trotting out another Hordak. (Though I'd prefer to also get Leech as well before Hurricane Hordak).

Anonymous
>>9610708 >>9610729 On that note, I'd honestly like to know what will and will not see retail release in Origins.
And I don't mean a character by character breakdown in saying that, I just mean overall.
Like, with Kol Darr, for example, he's the first non-vintage Filmation OC, so does him being online exclusive set the precedent that ALL other non-vintage Filmation OCs will also be online only? Or do the more popular ones (like say Scorpia or Batros) make it to retail?
And I've heard arguments on both sides regarding all those new characters they've teased...one side saying they'll be online fodder because Mattel won't risk retail space on unknown untested characters, and the other saying that they'll be retail because they'll be necessary to pad the line with additional part-reuse characters since we're nearing the end of existing characters.
Anonymous
>>9610792 Mattel at Power-Con stressed that Masterverse is the line for all the various versions of MOTU. But I would think that Origins could certainly start getting some more non-vintage designs (barring the 200x we've already seen) probably once the vintage line and vintage adjacent (mini comics) designs are complete.
Anonymous
>>9610792 >Or do the more popular ones (like say Scorpia or Batros) make it to retail? >more popular ones like Scorpia I think that's jumping the gun when we haven't even seen an Origins Catra. So far, Origins retail has only been vintage, minicomics repaints and 200x. New characters, Filmation and obscures (ie Wun-Dar) have so far been the online exclusive variety. I guess I'm just asking tl;Dr will it stay that way?

Certain things were already playing against them when Romney shoveled his gambling debts onto their shoulders. Shit, they didn't even care if a toy was visibly broken in the box, taking it to the CS counter to report it? They'd stick it back out for sale.
Anonymous
My enthusiasm for these toys would be better if the QC wasn't so bad. Paints look bad on a lot of samples I see. I can see damaged spots on flocked Panthors in their boxes. My BA He-Man has a lot of bad scratches on the thighs, I'm unsure if it was a molding issue or if a factory worker slashed at them. Wind Raider has 1 wing slightly curved, no amount of heating has straightened it. Land Shar's right panel(the one factory attached) is wobbly even though the one I had to put on is solid, while that same right side gun barely holds in place. I had to glue the peg down so it wouldn't wobble, add a wrap of tape around the base so the gun wouldn't droop & it still seems off. 2 copies of Kronis looking sideways. Both cats have back legs that feel loose with rattling something or other in their bodies sounding as if something broken. Faker's armor won't tab in the back because the bump has nothing to hold it. Castle Grayskull? The stickers were thrown in carelessly so I have a spot on the carpet decal. Plus glue so strong that if you get it slightly crooked, peeling it off to place it back down is a matter of sheer hope it won't rip the cheapo paper they used. The flexible plastic coupled with those hollow spaces under the floors also worries me, nor do I recommend putting wind raider on top like they suggest because the floors are too flimsy to hold all that weight. Yet the Masterverse line feels much more solid when they cost $5 more for 2X better toys.
Anonymous
>>9612677 Small change I actually like. Although I do find their lack of consistency odd. They give He-Man brand new armor that actually covers his back, yet everyone else has armor identical to the vintage ones. They give weapons like Tri Klop’s sword a hand guards but then don’t give one to Jitsu’s sword. It’s just weird how they decide when to stick to vintage accuracy or do something new

>>9612780 I'm fully expecting that Sun Man will be in every comic that accompanies a wave with a RotS character in it.
2 reasons:
>they made the deal, might as well get the most they possibly can out of him >also, since it's an obvious PC PR and marketing stunt, they're not going to want Sun Man to look like a lesser character than He-man, they're going to want them to look like equals. So that means teaming up for as long as this "crossover" lasts Anonymous
Am I the only one who cares about "purple Octavia" and "concept Dylamug" getting new names rather than overriding the others' existence?

They're good names for starters, and there are lots of cases where toy version and cartoon version differ. It's not "overiding". Those old versions will still exist

Are there any figures (from any line) where you like the action feature of gimmick, but for whatever reason, dislike the character it's attached to? Pic related. I like the idea of a villain with big antlers, and it's neat that they double as a shield (I'd personally also like it if they could grip things as well). And the name, Staghorn, that's cool as fuck. But the actual guy...he just looks so fat and stupid. And back in vintage, King Hiss. Like, I think the idea of a character thst sheds an outer layer to reveal a hidden interior is really cool, but the end result we got leaves a lot to be desired for me. I dunno what exactly I would have preferred for them to go with, but King Hiss isn't it.

Something went fundamentally awry with him.

A robot version of Modulok sounded amazing to me more so they were compatible with each other, but the serious lack of uniform parts/colors and the fact they both look more like people in suits just killed my interest completely

Webstor is a really nice figure, I liked him way more than I expected. Is the reason no one talks about him because his gimmick gets stuck and you have to help it along or risk breaking it?
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>9613980 I liked the first Masterverse Skeletor head. It's not very accurate to Revelation, though. In any case I'd like a better look at the alternate head Barbarian Skeletor comes with. It doesn't seem like it'll be arriving in March.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>9613997 I don't know if that's the full reason, but Webstor is one of those guys that feels like they just fell between the cracks
He's not one of the core characters from Skeletor's inner circle, he's not a ridiculous meme character like Stinkor, he's really underused in tie in media, people I think just forget that he's a thing, and that probably lessens the hype around him.
