So how are these things actually used? Like the top one, do I use it to actually chip out a section of plastic as wide as the blade? And the Mr. Line one, that looks like a scraping tool...would I use the very tip of it to scratch very thin lines? I have no clue where to even begin on the lower two.

I've ruined paintjobs in the past while cleaning up enamels, and pegs break when i was still a snap+panel line builder. And I think one guys zgok here had a chunk of armour break off. You really should clear coat your shit just in case.

You don't 'chip' like you see woodworkers do with a chisel and hammer. You scrape. So you just put down some guide tape, and then draw the tool along the tape to remove material. You don't need to push that hard, you just repeat the motion multiple times to get deeper grooves.

The engravers with a hook work exactly the same way, you just hold them so the hook is facing down towards the plastic. Its a bit easier to follow the part's shape with a hook when its not flat I think but it doesn't really matter. If you sharpen your tools, I have no idea how you'd sharpen a hook vs the chisel.

Just imagine dragging a tiny screwdriver along a piece of tape. That's all it is, but chisels are sharp / shaped right and made of hard steel that won't get blunt easily so you don't need to apply a lot of pressure and the channel you carve isn't all bumpy and fucked up.

You can scribe a 3mm wide line with a chisel though you will probably use narrower chisels for that most of the time. You can also use these chisels to remove material (like with a woodworking chisels). You can even use them to shave off nubs, especially in hard to reach places.

Hook-like chisels are for scribing lines only and personally I think they tend to dig in deeper than necessary so I use straight regular chisels, like in >>9630128 more often then hooked ones. HQParts chisels have shallower hooks compared to Creos, so I recommend them.

The "lower two" in >>9630098 are for scraping off flash (especially from resin) and for controlled demolition, when you need something removed from the model (when customizing etc) or when you need to open up a bubble in resin for proper filling.

So I started working on a tank.

Also trying out a glass file I got for $2 off Aliexpress. Seems to work similar to ~400-600grit sanding stick except it will hopefully last longer. Cleaning is easy. The only issue is that it's too wide and I can't cut it into smaller pieces like I would a sanding stick.
I would actually pay good money for a set of glass files that start at 1mm width with 0.5mm increments, but nobody makes that.

the Unicorn Re-Gz is basically the CCA Re-Gz with updated parts. they they have no reason to make it P-Bandai.

The V2 reprint doesn't use the updated parts from the expansion parts

Is the plastic easily stressed out? I built a Mega Man X model kit yesterday and the plastic for one of the ankle joints and the inside of the helmet notably stressed despite me being fairly careful and not putting a lot of pressure on the parts

I can't comment on the assembly as I didn't build it (my nub management is no where near as bad as that). Disassembling it however from what i can tell the parts fit just right. Not overly tight or loose, pegs didn't stress out during the process.

the MG 1/100 have more details and better color separation, but sometimes can come with more waterslides decals to apply that can take months, but the final results are always good

Avoid all hardware related CA glue, too thick. VMS offering is fairly thin and flexible compared to something like AKs black widow CA which makes it perfect for PE as it won't fill in details like grills on engine deck.

If you have a plastic injection machine and injection molds you can cast stuff from melted runners. Otherwise you can't.

Resin molds are designed for resin which has the viscosity of water when you pour it. Melted plastic is much more viscous and needs pressure to be applied to fill the mold.

Sad.......

Sprayed the final flat coat on my Slim Jim last night. Woke up to find spiderweb cracking of the paint on just the head part. I think my flatcoat (mr.color flat clear) had a bad reaction to the gloss coat under it (Alclad aqua gloss). I've never had these two clearcoats react like this before and literallt all the other pieces are fine. Oh well, live and learn. I can sand down and prime over it once it dries.

Aqua gloss is usually really durable once you givr it a few days to cure and I've never had issues with it before. Literally all my other parts are perfectly fine, its only the head that this happened to and I've never seen it react like this before on the half dozen other kirs I've done this with prior to this.

This happens when you spray lacquer over something that hasn't finished curing and still outgassing.
I have no idea why you needed Aqua Gloss when no metallics are involved, but if you wanted it so bad you should have given it a week to cure.

I wait 15-20 minutes. Also be careful with using too much liner because the more you use the longer it takes to cure. You also don't need a lot of lighter fluid on a q-tip to clean it up with either.

Bandai has become so razor-focused on profits that they drop a plamo line or toyline at a first sign of trouble. so, dropping waterslides for stickers is economically cheaper for them and they can sell more.

they have no idea what toys they make that can be popular now and go all out when an accidental hit happens

they killed non-Gundam MGs when theyre just starting to take off, they invested heavily in Pacific Rim and it flopped, they killed the Mechanic Collection when it could have been better, petitris is such a stupid idea, they could have gone with figurise with the FGO license, Bandai plamo and Tamashii nations still hates each others guts.

Dragonar HG preorder selling out in minutes and the success of the RG Eva shows that there can be a demand for highly detailed model kits that are not Gundam, and Bandai still refuse to get the message.

There's no negligible difference in price, they're doing it because waterslides is something that your average gunpla builder have difficulties applying.

what? stickers are way harder to apply properly, you have no leeway with putting them down and if you put it down wonky initially they crinkle up when you try to remove them and reapply. waterslides you can just haphazardly slap down then you have minutes to slide it into place where you want it

Anyone ever try carving out an exact shape for a fit? I have a slot I've carved out but it doesn't exactly match the hexagon shape on the leg that I'm applying it too. I'm afraid to do more in case I widen it to the point where the part doesn't fit, but I'm not sure how I'd go about it besides carving out the inside with an exacto knife, or I guess I messed up by not having the hexagon shape as part of the original part, but then that's kind of the same issue as in how the fuck do I carve this

Finally got around to top coating this. Got the Decals and panel lines on a month ago, but I don't like to bust out the airbrush until I have a few things I can use it together. I used waterslide Decals and Tamiya accent panel line in grey and black to finish this

Piloted by a federation pilot that got sick of the politics on his side and decided to defect to Zeon, this GM III features a paint scheme inspired by the Dom family of mobile suits. His armament is everything he could grab when he made his escape. He loves it now because he gets a badass paint scheme and is allowed to drink on the job and get in lots of fights. Seig Zeon.

Another ground type, the RGM-96X[G] Jesta Ground Type variant was developed specifically for use in 1G environments. Jesta Ground Type's are primarily employed as part of small Londo Bell Spec-Ops MS Teams for ground missions or by ranking officers in EFGF MS Teams.

It has traded the standard Jesta's Backpack & Shield for a Container Rack, Weapon Container, & a more traditional arm-mounted Shield. It's communications systems have also been upgraded with a much larger antenna for longer range transmissions as well as allowing it to send & receive far more data. It can use a wide array of weapons and equipment including the standard issue Jesta Beam Rifle, Beam Saber, Vulcan Pod, & Hand Grenades as well as a 180mm Cannon, suppressed handgun, heat knife, & an optional parachute pack which can be mounted to the Container Rack.

The GM-T-1 was built by a deep space asteroid mining group to protect its colonies, assets and peoples against hostile groups during times of war. Built from a salvaged GM Sniper the suit was rebuilt with the intention of making a "gundam killer" capable of taking on and destroying the most advanced mobile suits being deployed by either of the major powers. The rear thruster was removed and replaced with high power two omni jointed thrusters to improve the mechs mobility in space, whilst the chest was extended with two frames covered in armoured panels. The right section holds additional fuel for the thrusters and life support equipment whilst the left holds a searchlight, and a 50mm autocannon with a massive magazine to keep it operational. To assist with pilot safety an additional section of armour was added above the cockpit. The vents and thrusters on the torso were also up armoured and two sensor and EW pods were added either side of the head.

For weaponry the GM-T-1 was fitted with a specially designed railgun. Designed to fire 360mm slugs at near relativistic velocities, the weapon was capable of destroying any Mobile Suit then in service in a single hit, with the velocity of the shots making them effective against even New Type pilots. This came at a cost, as the barrel quickly wore out and needed replacing every 500 shots or so. The weapons integral magazine could hold 9+1 shots and it was unable to reload during engagements. Alongside this the mech carries six one-shot missiles in an ejectable rack on its left arm, made from two scavenged Zaku leg pods.
The GM-T-1 would remain in service with the Deep Mining Republic until UC 108 when it would be shot down over Mars whilst escorting a convoy. The wreck has never been recovered.

The GM Silver Stinger is a product of the Anaheim's upgrade program in 0083. This GM Sniper II was outfitted with simplifed parts from the GP01 Full Vernier, dramatically increasing its mobility and combat effectiveness. This unit also comes with two prototype Incoms that were reverse engineered fom captured Zeong units. Due to being prototypes the Incoms effective output is similar to a GM's beam pistol, though the multi-barreled design helps increase the damage, these weapons are more fit for distracting the enemy or used against lightly armored joints. Minor changes made by the test pilot include a modified munitions rack, a hip mounted grenade launcher, an additional command horn/antenna, and a prototype multi-gun that was provided alongside the GP01 parts from Anaheim. Ideally this unit would've rolled out alongside Powered GMs but due to the Gundam Project's early cancellation it was mothballed and left in Torrington's test hangars for years to come. Supposedly it was fielded during the Zeon Remnant's seige of the base but no reported footage was found.

During the ZZ and CCA era the EFF had a bunch of GM variants like the type C and Command laying around that could be updated the same way that the standard GMs could, so instead to make use of them they developed new equipment to modify their combat roles. GM commands were turned into range support and troop carriers. Thus the GM Heavy Support type was drafted and constructed.

In the final stages of the Gryps conflict, RGM-79Q “GM Quel” units were often deployed in favor of their more costly RX-121 “Hazel”-type counterparts. Using “Primrose” and “Hrududu” equipment in exotic configurations proved to dramatically increase the speed, firepower, and range of these Titans Test Team commandos. The augmentations added to these custom mobile suits succeeded in vastly improving mission success rate and pilot survivability.
However, due to stability issues in high-speed flight, the thrust output of the standard GM Quel’s leg boosters were deemed inadequate to balance angle-of-attack vectoring. Therefore, some of these special units were modified to have their lower torsos, legs, and feet replaced with the high-mobility type based on the design of the RX-121-2A Gundam TR1 Advanced Hazel. This alteration applied a drastic improvement in maneuverability, allowing pilots to perform precise attacks with a variety of ranged and melee weapons. The inclusion of the Advanced Hazel's Sub-arm Units also proved to be essential for improved equipment handling and field maintenance. Additionally, when equipped with the point-defense laser suite found in the Enhanced Shield Booster, as well as the I-field Generator provided by a Composite Shield Booster, these units were very well-defended against missiles and beam weaponry, as long as such ordnance was available.

After rigorous combat testing, further configurations were developed, resulting in this variant featuring an extended gimbal arm for the Primrose unit's particle cannon and more mounting hardpoints for attaching extra shields and shield boosters.

Intended to roll out alongside the refurbished RGM-79R GM II machines under the Federation Forces Reconstruction Plan, several GM variants in service saw a handful of machines given similar overhauls. This GM Sniper II for example was fitted with more powerful sensors, magnetic joint coatings, wrist mounts for additional weapons and a modernized beam sniper rifle, powered by a 1518kw GM II-type reactor. As the GM Sniper II already out-performed the new GM II, such modernizations were quickly deemed excessive and the project was shelved after production of just a handful of units.

God I want to army build so bad but my tolerance for repeated builds and tasks is in the negatives. I have to hype myself up for days just to tackle the second leg of a kit. ADHD is suffering.

A punch would only work with a thin sheet, but not with a solid piece and not if you need the hole to go half-way through it.

In my last project I had to drill a large diameter hole in a piece with a regular sized drill and I thought that a shorter drill would be more convenient and easier to control. So I bought some.

This is not about being able to punch through a thick piece per se. This is about fine control.

Also good luck using a 10mm punch on a sub-assembly, like a robot arm or leg.

There are plastic drill bits with a steeper incline. They're even designed to be used on more brittle plastics like acrylic so they'd work fine on pliable plastics like HIPS
