I think pins are only used because they're more durable and less likely to come apart and have a kid crying to his mom that his toy is broken, avoiding the line forever or asking for refunds.
pic is another figure that used pinless for a couple of joints and didn't cost more... despite actually being taller than the rest of his line (which shows that small height increases, including 7" scale itself, is just a marketing gimmick. not actual value)
