>>9883410>How did you guys reactHonestly? Poorly. It wasn't enough to make me stop buying them, but even as a kid, I was upset by the change. Max started out as this adorable chubby cheeked little chibi design. With his huge eyes and chunky features, he could easily be a retro anime character. His baggy shirt and chunky sneakers dwarfing his skinny legs are really cute, and his sideways hat has an irreverent, carefree feel to it. He is perfect.
Max 2.0 is fucking hideous. He looks like the ghost of an elderly muppet. His eyes are just empty black hollows, and his face is locked in a creepy grin. I don't know why his face has so many lines and wrinkles, they sculpted him like he's 80. His awkward, stiff pose with the slightly bent knees and feet together only makes him feel more like an old man hobbling about. The lantern accessory on this particular one certainly doesn't help either. His outfit is not only inaccurate, but it feels dramatically uncool for the 90s. His shirt is tucked in and you can see his belt, what a fuckin nerd. Again, old man. His sneakers are no longer cool hi-tops, they look like those white athletic shoes every dad wears. His proportions have really suffered too.
Anyway, I could rant all fucking day about this, but you get the point. When they made the switch, they were still cool toys overall, but Max himself lost nearly all his appeal for me.
