Either you can engineer some sort of pull-out arm solution (which Hasbro is not going to spend the money to develop, let's be realistic here) or you need to remove mass somewhere to make it work. NECA tried the latter very recently with their new ED1 Ash--perhaps you've seen all the bitching about "spaghetti arms" in the past week. Even slimmer lines like Busou Shinki understood that in order to achieve natural ranges of motion in hard plastic, you need to remove material, which is why that line had such huge divots carved out of the back of the legs.
So...yeah. Kinda a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation, y'know? The only REAL fix is throwing money it, hiring better engineers, complicating production, and creating more potential issues in the future (more moving parts = more places for breakages/fuckups).
