So tell me, what's your opinion on MISB sets? Is it blasphemy to keep such treasures locked up or do you see it like I do - preserving a bit of history, something rare that's never coming back?
Do you own any such sets? If so, go ahead and post them!

And before we get caught up in that discussion, I'm strictly talking about collecting them for one's self, not obtaining them as a sort of investment or resale opportunity.

I have a sealed and an open copy of most of the things I really really love. I like the boxes, and they look good on the shelf. some of them take me back to when I was a kid and I'd spend as much time as I could staring at them, imaging how I'd play with them.

Personally, I rarely keep a Lego set "as is". I either heavily modify the build, or use the set as a parts pack to build my own shit later.

Ultimately, I think Lego should be opened and enjoyed, but understand the feelings of collecting and preserving items. With vintage sets like those, a unopened copy is like 5-10x more valuable because a lot of them haven't survived up until now, so I understand just keeping them unopened as a type of investment / store of wealth you can enjoy as advertising pieces.

It definitely is a fun and unique opportunity to open vintage sets though. Freeing pieces that have been encased for years and having something so old be new is lovely. I've picked up a couple opened or damaged box and sealed bags vintage sets for that reason.

Lego is more complex and can be used in many ways, adults will generally collect, build MOC's and buy the more expensive larger sets. That's why the term AFOL exists

And that sounds like a subgroup of AFOLS. Adults and children tend to use Lego in completely different ways and collect different sets, hence the term. Why is this so confusing to you?

I think it's incredibly niche but good for fans who are into it. My 9-year-old nephew likes it. He likes about anything Mario related though. Two years ago, for his birthday I got him the Mario starter set. Hearing him say, "I wanted that!" was very rewarding. When the Luigi set came out I got that for him too. My brother was in full lock-down then so I just had it shipped to him. My brother explained that while he had to help his son build the first Mario sets, this time he pretty much did the whole Luigi one on his own.
I see the sets personally as more of a way of getting younger kids attention and using it as a gateway to get them into LEGO in general. So I see my nephew's increased interest in building the sets as a good sign.

Some sets were really good like pic related. I liked the creativity of larger vehicles breaking up into smaller ones, hidden compartments, etc. But for the most part, the minifigs looked weird and the majority of sets were only good as parts packs.

As far as opening something like this, I am 100% with you, the feeling is amazing. I think if you do have old MISB sets you should preserve the box art by cutting it out ot flattening it and not pressing the thumb thing. But that's just because the box art was amazing and worth keeping. It would take up less space too.

On Bricklink you're paying a premium on each piece for someone to buy the set, break it down, sort it at all, list it, pack it and individually sell it all. Most sets part out for 2-3x what they cost.

Your best bet for getting bulk unsorted bricks is local classifieds like craigslist, facebook, etc and ebay lots. As well, you can buy Lego on clearance, sell the figures from it and keep the bricks at a low cost. Creator 3 in 1 sets are good parts packs and usually have the best price per piece ratio with almost every block being a universal-type brick.

You can also design stuff digitally in Studio, get a parts list and then use Bricklink to fill in the gaps on pieces you don't have. But it's usually best to have a base collection prior as getting every piece you need can become atrociously expensive as it'll likely be through multiple sellers all charging separate shipping. It's also worth taking a look at Bricks and Pieces on lego.com to buy currently available pieces. Usually it's more expensive than Bricklink, but it's a mixed bag and sometimes is a much better offer considering it all ships for free from the same place. It's down right now for maintenance, but will be back soon.

Time cruisers was the nexo knights of its time, an amalgamation of multiple cool things to make something not as good as any of them individually.

ngl I do like the whacky flying boat and base with the neon orange panels tho, all the sets came with basically a starter pack of key theme or minifig items. Sets were great to build a collection for play back when LEGO was meant to do that.

Very toned down Islanders ruins on moonsurfaces sounds really atmospheric. Ninjago did something similar but I dislike how over the top they were. (lavender and teal was a neat colourscheme though)

About a month or so ago they started estimating 5-6 weeks for B&P orders.

They have actually totally closed down all new incoming orders because they seem to be renovating / upgrading their platform.
