And then any time you need to draw something that behaves like actual human anatomy, load up on photo reference or get some artist statues that show the muscles in different positions so you can light them as you wish. Even some 3D software will get you farther than toys, as long as you can pose the figure and manipulate light sources.
The problem with using an action figure for reference, even a rubber body one, is that the shapes will not deform the way an actual human body will, and you’ll be left with something that falls into an uncanny valley.
