Looking at the announcement photos for the HGAC Shenlong, looks like the green shoulder emblems are molded. And Bandai Jewed out with only stickers for the front side.

Kinda weak but TV Shenlong and EW Altron are my favorite 90s Gundam designs.

After reading the guide, as someone who hasn't had any models since the early 2000s, I've come to the conclusion I'll basically never get a full set of Gundam Wing gunplas due to age and popularity. Is that the correct conclusion?

What do you mean?
Bandai re-releases kits constantly.
They keep making new kits for older shows. I think over the past 5 years or so we've gotten a new release of a Wing suit each year. Even for fucking G Unit and no one read that garbage.

I'd say the chances of getting grunts isn't that likely but who knows. I stopped watching Build Fighters/Build Divers. But if they keep making those then there's a chance seeing more grunts being made.

Being a Wingfag is suffering. But I'd say G Gundam and X Gundam has it was worse. Those series did much worse in the US and Japan than Wing did. And Wing still has a pretty big fanbase, even in Japan.

Ah, I suppose I will have to keep an eye out for re-releases. When Endless Waltz came out in US, I was able to get HG and MG at the local Walmart. But I was like 10 so I had no idea I shouldn't use the as action figured. Now as an adult I wish I had kept them.

Its harder in America. When I lived in Japan 4 years ago, I was surprised to see those 90s kits instock at the big box stores. In the US, check Amazon, ebay, or sites that shit from Japan. Also because of HGAC Shenlong's release in September, Bandai is gonna be re-releasing a ton of wing kits.

Kids in America don't play with toys anymore, and they don't like Gundam. So you don't see those kits at Walmart and stuff anymore. If you do go to brick and mortar hobby shops in America kits are marked up like 2x and their stock is limited. If you're gonna by more than 2 kits its well worth it to buy from a vendor in Japan and bite the bullet on shipping.

it was an inconstancy like a lot of it's animation and models. Consider that some shots of Shenlong in the opening and in the show didn't have the green shoulders at all.

Nigger I just googled TV Shenlong Gundam, and found the first 3 images that show its back shoulders.
Find one where it has white circles in show. Not concept art.

Even the only HG 1/100 kit has it with green circles.

Well, at least you can find small comfort in the fact that your kits would still be made, you'd just have to wait longer/pay more. Bandai factories are not getting bombed and kit designers are not getting killed/maimed.

Your first two Amiami examples are not kits. The second is from their Japanese site, which is again irrelevant because this is about combating international scalping. I know you probably did this because the English listings are gone, but if we compare these two listings, the top screencapped just now, and the bottom screencapped in 2020, you can see where the "limit 1" text is usually placed right above the bookmark button. It is not there on the HiRM Noir.

So it seems Amiami was/is putting limits on SOME Bandai products, but they were not doing it on kits. Which is apparently why they're in the doghouse now.

Now is actually a pretty decent time to get in, but you'll have to act fast. HGAC Heavyarms (and I think Wing?) are showing up at Targets and also available online. I just got a Wing preorder fulfilled at HLJ. Shenlong just got shown off so preorders will probably go up soon. And Deathscythe and Sandrock will inevitably get re-releases.

they definitely have issues, but the majority of problems are exacerbated by hamfists thinking they'll be like a HG kit. My RG Zaku II and RX-78 are still rock solid, with the exception of the Zaku's side skirts and the Gundam's ransel thrusters wanting to pop off

if anyone's interested, finisher's multi primer, good alternative to gaianotes's multi primer since it's near impossible to get.
real crappy, unwashed rubber material vs strong adhesive masking tape.
seems pretty good for softer materials but the tamiya primer is much more scratch resistant, dunno why the masking tape ripped off the paint but very little primer.

It started out as an FA78-1 but over the years I lost a lot of the additional armor. So I changed it to the original RX-78-1 scheme. First time using an airbrush, quite a learning curve with that shit.

Masters Touch 1/4 angular shader for the large parts, and a lil 10/0 round for fine details. All I use really because Im happy with them, cant speak on anything other then Acrylic paint though. Hobby Lobby carrys them, usually half off which appeals to my inner jew

I have a few but I like the Windsor and Newton series 7s. I have a 00 and it works great for panel lines after getting used to it. Try and avoid super tiny brushes, all you need is one that can hold a fine point. Also paint type doesn't really have an impact from what I've seen

water = seeps into natural bristles made from the animals that are slaughtered for our painting needs

I meant pic related or similar. They are disposable and you can go through quite a few of them in some cases but they clean up excess paint very well.
I have your pic related as well but I found it not very useful for precision cleanup because it's too soft.

Those swabs are for precise clean up on a flat surface and yes, they are hard enough to scrape paint if you apply muscle.
Standard soft q-tips are for reverse wash.

I'm pretty sure solvent based paint is way worse for natural hairs. Having such a low surface tension is good for flow but also means it flows into the ferrule really well.
Most watercolour brushes are natural bc it retains water really well so you don't have to keep loading it up, same applies to waterbased acrylics (and they keep a really fine tip). You can pretty much alleviate most of the downsides to vallejo type stuff if you add a drying retarder too
At least the smol aminals are hunted responsibly but still rip

Why are plamo posters so mad at everything. unfortunately covid has killed gunpla stocks and most ibo kits don't get reprinted very often except hg barbatos, hg astaroth, and hg bael. those are the ones you'll probably see in stock everywhere. hg vidar and hg gremory get occasional reprints but they sell out instantly. the 1/100 full mechanics vidar is probably easy to find though, i don't know about NL but in my country that one seems to stay in stock forever. any other ibo kits you're out of luck and will just have to wait until bandai decides to reprint them, i've been waiting for a gusion reprint for about 2 years

Fuck you it was good. It did some nice worldbuilding and gave us a reason why literal children can beat trained soldiers in combat.

I tried watching 00 but I was immediately put off by the characters, premise and the stupid tiny mascot robot. I've also seen most of Wing but that's a bit dated these days.

00's setting, world, mechs, & action are its best points honestly. Most of the characters could be swapped with cardboard cutouts that repeat a half dozen lines and nobody would notice. The few exceptions are side characters (Sergei & Kati) funnily enough. Overall I enjoyed it and would say it sits comfortably in the middle of Gundam series I've seen.

I also managed to damage one of C-joints on the foot but luckily it was just widened a bit and some hot water and force allowed me to bend it back. The manual does tell you how to manipulate the feet to avoid breaking the joints

why the fuck are effect parts so damn expensive? if you want to display all 12 fin funnels for both RG Nu and Hi-Nu, you have to buy $24 worth jet effect parts or if you want the 3rd party route, $36 for fin funnel effect stands. Yea anon, good choice on the Tamiya. Black, grey and brown should be all you need. Id say dark grey/regular brown but its more of a preference thing. And yea, the pens dry out quick. Also, be sure you pick up a can of Zippo fluid to clean up the lines after.

No you dont have to gloss it. Thats more for panel loning over painted kits. The problem is letting the liner get between a seam. It won't dry properly and causes the plastic to get brittle and crack etc. Better to put apply it to the parts on runners or after clipping each part off.

Same with the zippo fluid or thinners. Dont use that much and youll have better results and less risk of the thinner doing damage. Im pretty damn sure by the smell that tamiya is just zippo fluid and paint premixed.

This is true as well. A small drop of enamel and zippo fluid stirred up makes great panel liner. Ive even watered down acrylics and had ok results, just takes some extra clean up effort. Just because some things work better doesnt mean other ways will not work.

No primer is needed for lacquer-based metallics except the shiniest chromes (that need polished black backing). But you're probably not going to paint inner frame super shiny chrome.

I just wanna say it bros. As someone learning how to paint, i'm super annoyed by modern high grades. Some kits have 9-11 runners, which at one point would be considered a rg or mg. I really just want small kits.

Gonna pick up an entry grade gundam on the weekend. So frusturated. Alot of the breaker battalogue kits are hard too. They are easily available, but have weird quirks like psychoframes, or stickers. I just want a kit i can complete in a weekend.

just relax and take it slowly, it's very slow hobby after all.
that being said having appropriate equipment makes everything a lot faster and a lot of parts isn't really an issue since it means less masking.
you airbrushing or handpainting?

I suggest taking up SDs (Cross Silhouette and LegendBB are very good) or maybe something like Danbooru Senki, which was meant for kids but still produced some bangin kits (these are discontinued, but can still be found online). To further explain, you don't really need primer all that often, BUT it does make your life a hell of a lot easier. Solid no for using gloss topcoat as a primer.
