Good advice. I was kind of thinking the same thing. The problem with these kinds of mechs that use a lot of mixel joints is weight tolerances. I always have to keep in mind that I can't add too many pieces and make it too heavy or else the joints will collapse. But im sure I can think of a way to beef up the legs and not stress the joints.

Ever notice how vintage lego only had 16 colors? That's because it used to be all pre-dyed pellets. Now, Lego has a massive color catalogue of hundreds of shades and adds different pigments to partially trans clear plastic. All pigment is an "impurity" in ABS plastic and some cause chemical reactions. Brown is the worst case of brittleness.

If your issue is "power levels", the generic spooky beings that could justifiably top dracula would be the devil or the grim reaper. For the devil, other than the fact that lego would never actually do it, I feel like all the fire and lava and rock strays too much from the gothic aesthetic. If you would prefer the grim reaper route I guess for a large set they could do a large fully fledged graveyard but I'm not sure it as much visual interest and playability possibilities as all you can do with the plethora of twisted carnival tropes

I do like the attempt at a small raised baseplate, but I am a huge fan of the printed island plates. Picrel has a 16x16 printed island plate, a palm tree, monkey, and a set of gold coins.

It was $12 in 1989, which would be a bit over $25 today.

Sabre island is a better value pick as it was $15, or ~$30 today and it has 3 soldiers, a boat, palm tree, and a tower of printed panels + large flag, but I feel like a pirate shipwreck is more soulful than an imperial base.

Duplo is true to form, you could nearly give it to a newborn and it'd probably be fine.

If you are uncertain, open up the box with them and see for yourself - the set you pictured for example, has nearly no sharp edges. You'd have to try really hard to have any of that be dangerous.

Even the large parts such as door edges or the tops of bricks are relatively rounded off. Anything that looks deliciously chewable is rounder and made of softer plastic that is harder to take chunks off of. Try it for yourself if you are worried!

I was having a lot of trouble making the purple space torso fit with the others, having the head a similar color tint is probably the best solution I've seen so far. Really nice minifigure work overall, it's been great for inspiration!

Jelly of the monorail, there is a airport monorail for sale locally but I don't want to spend $1300 hobbitdollars, I did buy a clone power funtions kit with a rechargeable battery and am picking up a second hiddenside train, I will need to order parts from lego shortly to make some passenger carriages.

Here is the 'after' photo. The 1 x 2 brick is still noticeably yellow, but it's a lot better than before. The flag and panel have also improved. I might wash them next to see if that will help. It's been cloudy for the past few days so that's probably slowed the progress a bit.

Thanks. the real tragedy of vidiyo is that the minifigs and the aesthetics had some fertile ground to make some interesting sets, and while there were attempts with their stages there was really nothing other than that damn app.

in any case i decided ill make matching sets of some kind. no idea what to do with this minifig habitat though.

It comes in a normal Amazon box. I always order Lego on Amazon because when I order it from retailers it always has the Lego logo on the box and the mailman calls me out on it and laughs in my face, calling me a little basedboy bitch who plays with children's toys. Think about how in old movies and TV shows, the lighting was obviously "fake" to get situations like someone who was sitting in shadow but their eyes were caught in a slit of light.

I finally found a good deal on some vintage lego, it has been really hard for me to find anything. I yoinked this for $120. I was eyeing up that space base, but also noticed there was some pneumatics in addition to an Aquanaut sub + some classic town / boats with boxes!

I'm having a blast building stuff, I love when lots come with instructions. I'm building the space base and aquanaut submarine first, and will eventually get to the town. I'll probably sell the town racetrack, boat, Res-Q copter, and the individual pneumatic bits to recoup the cost.

Is the Quetzalcoatlus worth it? All the rest of the new dinosaurs in this wave look like shit. The Pyroraptor, Dilophosaurus, and Atrociraptor are just one solid piece with no articulation (except the jaw).

I saw a youtube video from a German guy who got the kit early and the Quetzalcoatl looked really cheap.

I'm having my doubts, these dinosaurs look really half assed, thinking the smarter move is wait for the Lightyear sets.

This set was neat as fuck only thing thing missing is a 1x1 in red (possibly me losing it), 2x 2x2 round black bricks, one light grey 1x1 and big guy winnie the poo can't complete his staff as I don't want to pop it off the sprue, came with extra flags too, has sealed game tiles and cards.

Has anyone here bought any custom replacement sails for old pirate sets from okbrickworks on ebay? I recently got a used lot that had one of the sails from Imperial Trading Post. I thought it would have two, but the other one I saw in the pic was from the Imperial ship. I'd like to piece this set together because I do have the two expensive minifigs as well as the basplate, but its hard for me to pay such prices for the real sails. I am looking at these customs as an option. I am an obsessive completist so I feel like it would bother me in the long run though. Thoughts on this practice?

Again, it's not the exact same build as the original set. The new 90th anniversary set will probably have a recreation of the original set using modern pieces at the core, along with a bunch of fancier walls using modern building techniques surrounding it.

I bought some, these and the white / blue sails for the royal armada.

Real flag on the left, aftermarket on the right. They very obviously look and feel different than originals, but from a distance they look more than acceptable.

It can be really hard to track down actual good condition sails, so I'd rather have perfect quality reproductions than beat up and expensive original ones.
