Nice. As someone who used to live near a museum that housed both replica skeletons of Giganotosaurus and Argentinasaurus these two are a must-have for me (yeah, scale is not the same but I’ll take what I can get). I already have enough Target digital gift cards from doing Bing quizzes and searches that Giga will be completely free when I can buy it.

Personally I like to think Gigas IRL were at least tolerant of their own kind when converging on a large weak prey animal like modern crocs and komodo dragons and with minimal to no intraspecific cannibalism.

Trevorrow is such a talentless hack it’s not even funny. It’s telling that the only movies of his that make money are related to a pre-established franchise. Not that I’m mad though. warning to anyone with the green buck Trex from the pack with the baby rex, the leg just snapped even though all its done is sit on my shelf for the last 2 years. One complaint for sure is the mouth. The sculpt just seems less detailed than Indo. The purplish color is odd too, but if it’s actually canon then who’s to complain? It does look ‘wet’ due to the shinier plastic so that’s a neat touch for the eating-gimmick making it look like it’s salivating.

I like mine, the arms have pretty good articulation with joints at the shoulder, elbow and wrist. The legs have a bit of articulation in the knee, really just a second position they click into, but it does change the bend of the knee slightly. The tail controls the 2 action features, moving it left and right makes the front of the torso swing back and forth with roaring/slashing sound effects; and a button on the tail makes the neck bend forward and jaws open with more roaring sounds. Surprisingly the head has some articulation even with the lunging gimmick and can look left and right about 45 degrees in either direction and tilted up and down or even cocked to one side.

The plates are too big and too closely placed together. Rest of it looks okay desu. Other than that, the only issue I have with it is the colors are way off. They're using dark reddish brown instead of light yellowish beige on the flanks and plates.

The thing you have to remember is first and foremost these figures are still designed for kids and with it toonish or safer designs.
We see it with the carnivores and their mostly oval teeth, raptors and their usually overly large feet for easy balancing.

you'll never get a perfect balance between affordability and screen accuracy.

I always thought it was a Mamenchiasaurus despite them calling it a Brachiasaurus. The hatchling Ajay comes with is called a Parasaurolophus despite it clearly being a Dilophosaurus.

This was based on the small SWS maquette, a cast of which was available as a Horizon model kit back in the day.

These days it's even easier to get screen-accurate sculpts on figures. The digital files usd for VFX can be sent to toy manufacturers to use as reference or even as starting points for the sculpts. This is often the case, but the designers at Mattel insist on creating their own wonky-ass proportions even for their supposed "collector" line.

I guess if you want a true collector line, you have to be willing and able to drop $1K or more on a Prime 1 statue.

That surprised me when I read about CamoXtreme later on; the only place that makes sense would have been the local K.B. Toys since they had exclusively rights in the 2000s. According to the page for it on JPtoys, they say some local stores got cases so I'm thinking my store just got lucky despite being located on the opposite side of the country from Hasbro's headquarters.

Same here. I have one singular memory of seeing stuff from Jurassic Park 3 on shelves, and it's super fuzzy at best. Otherwise, most of the JP stuff I had growing up were the repaints. Those were alright.

I only got one jurassic park 3 figure at the time of the movies release and that was this alpha velociraptor that i had for a good 15 years even before my mom gave it to goodwill against my wishes. I am glad i have some of my other dinos from when i was a kid though but i do miss that one raptor

Not everything I own is in the picture, that's about 2/3rds of the humans but this is what I was able to get out of storage. There's some TLW variants and dino tracker and JP3 dino tracker figures not there. I do have the Alpha Pteranodon Eric comes with despite it not in the pic also. Accessories are in the bags, however I'm too lazy to take all of them out and set it up. Maybe when I have more room.

From JP probably Grant and Muldoon though I like the S2 head sculpts more since they're more accurate. Eddie and Dieter are my favorite from TLW and Billy from JP3 cause he has the Glider pack.

The best JP figures are the Evil Raiders because they had modular weapons, rip off dino damage outfits and actual chunks of scarred eaten flesh underneath plus awesome hatchlings. Tim was also a pretty neat figure because he felt like an entire play pattern in a box for $4, you got him, plus his little snare, plus a baby brachio to capture, plus a cage to put it in if he did capture it and then he could feed it or teach it stuff.
TLW line is easy, Dieter Stark is far and away the best figure due to the magnetic compy feature.

Wow I got the JW Dominion Minis and they're awesome. They're finally making them somewhat on scale which is great. They're also making human characters now. I had bought the first pack that Hasbro made when FK came out and felt like I wasted my money but these new ones feel rubbery, are closer to their scale instead of every dinosaur being the same height and again human characters. I'm hyped hope we get Ian and Alan next.

Hammond Collection is something I wish we'd had from the beginning, all three dinos so far are absolutely stellar. Malcolm is kind of meh, the jacket looks awkwardly done on him and I don't think he needs this much articulation. I'm hoping they mostly stick to key action-centric characters for this line, and don't start giving characters like Hammond or Arnold the super-articulated treatment that they really don't need.

Yeah feels weird leaving Hammond out of the Hammond Collection but let's be realistic.

they are all new sculpts including the Raptor althhough its copies the Amber collection pretty closely. They have never done an articulated Raptor at this scale and there are a few differences and simplifications in articulation compared to the Amber collection one. They both have huge feet tho

The heads are a different shape and Blue has those bumps on the back of her neck. The general body proportions are also different in the movies, but that doesn't matter since Mattel's body sculpts aren't movie accurate in the first place.

I think what throws people is saying things like "the head is a different shape" when the only significant different is the snout being a bit thinner on Blue and those aforementioned bumps. Beyond that, the differences are so minor most people will never see them.

It reminds me of when the super poseable Indoraptor came out and dudes here were screaming that the head was "completely the wrong shape" when all it meant was that the snout was a little too large and the teeth weren't aligned the right way. It took me months to figure out what they were talking about because the only response I'd get when asked what was wrong was "IT'S COMPLETELY THE WRONG SHAPE"

I can understand why they didn't go with super articulated "premium" figures right away, but Amber Collection was a weird path to take. I think Mattel saw other companies doing collector-focused 6" lines like Marvel Legends and Black Series and thought they could hop onto that, without realizing how unsustainable that would be for a line that's heavily focused on dinosaurs. There are only so many human characters people would be willing to pay $20 for and they were already running out of dinosaurs that people would be willing to pay $30 for at that scale. The line by its nature basically excludes the larger dinos because you're not going to get a mass market to support a $60 triceratops. Sticking to the 3.75" scale for a premium line was the smarter option, it just took them a few years to get here.

This is the correct answer, the Kenner rexes are iconic in their own right but were too much of a status symbol to have the sheer ubiquity and staying power of the JP1 non-electronic raptor. Even today it's a reasonable (in many cases preferable) alternative to most of Mattel's raptors.

Can't you swivel the base of the neck so that the hinge is oriented in such a way that side-to-side movement is possible? Or is there no room for it to turn?

They really should've just used ball joints, this hinge/swivel system sucked for the AC stuff and it seems nothing's changed.

Considering the Lego set for the Quetz, too, but man Legos are so fucking pricey.

That said, man I miss the opposable talons of Kenner's Lost World Giant Pteranodon. Being able to grab and carry other toys added so much to the figure, or also to have it perched on something so it isn't always stuck laying on it's belly.
I wonder if there's some sort of 3D print available for it's talons somewhere, to resize them and glue them to the new Quetz...

Yeah, my main issue with the other Tyrannosaurus sculpts was the bodies had no real clavicle area, I was worried this one would just reuse that inaccurate sculpt Mattel used before but I'm glad they did a completely new sculpt which is closer to the on screen model.

If you look at other angles from the convention though, the glass eyes prevent you from seeing the pupils from any angle except the side. Just looks like it has marbles for eyes from the front. These eyes are too small and the pupil painted too deep. If they were bigger or less round, you'd get the proper "following you around" effect.

It's such an obscure fucking species that I NEED to have it. Like, why did they choose Ornithosuchus specifically? Why is the other gimmick of the toy that it's tail falls off of all things? And again, why choose a psuedosuchian, an animal most people don't even really know existed unless they're a dedicated paleo-nut?

I've been saying this for years, autists here will scream about how Kenner was perfect but it's rose-tinted glasses. A handful hold up okay now but most of them haven't aged well at all, hell a lot of them were terrible even when they were new. Even as a kid I thought the JP1 Stego was embarrassing.
