Does anyone else have this weird habit of buying 2 copies of the same toy or is it just me? I do this often with Transformers whereby I’ll buy one to display in robot mode and the other to display in vehicle mode.

Not really. I own three copies of RID Vehicon and that's only because they're army builders, have really neat engineering and I had a coupon to get two extra for cheap.
Also taking into account most figures I buy are in the 60-150 price range and nonetheless I own over 500 figures, buying more than one of each would be just crazyness at that point. Way too much money and a waste of space.

Yes, I do it for certain figures. Sometimes I would buy 3 to have one in box too, but now I’m running out of room and cash.

I only ever did this once with an Acid Rain 1/18th figure. They were having a sale, I got the first one and liked it so much that I decided to get one more as a spare in the event that the original melts or breaks or gets lost or whatever. That’s probably the only reason I’d ever do this imo, something I like so much I wanna make sure I can save it in case I have too much fun.

Only if they are army builders or interesting recolours, beyond that, I'll buy different figures of the same character.

Only exception are a few of the same model kits because they were dirt cheap and I just liked the idea of having three of the same figure on the desk.

The only time I bought the same toy twice was for the Takara LG Ultra Magnus, only because I modded it to make the addon kits work better on him but I liked the figure enough to make me want to own a stock version as well.

Excluding troop builder characters the only duplicate toy I ever bought double of was the latest Wreck-Gar, as while Junkions ride each other in the film, Wreck-Gar exclusively rides a bike that his own bike mode.

Yeah but only recolors or improvements. Like ive got 5 some odd versions of the smokescreen mold, A because i dig that mold and B because i just feel like i have to. I did it with boba fett, stormtroopers and darth vader when ii collected star wars in high school.

I buy doubles of stuff that I'm really passionate about, like a G1 Deathsaurus and a G1 Liokaiser. But sometimes I just end up selling one because of space constraints.

I've done it a few times for figures I knew I could resell to cover the cost of the one I'm keeping. Did it for Super Megatron, Gen Selects Star Convoy, and I've bought two of the Haslab Victory Saber sets. For some reason people don't like to import stuff or aren't aware of it so you can make some money doing it and then selling.

I just started buying stuff that looked cool at the store a few months ago and now I’m on /toy/.

For some reason I have autism about leaving figures in the boxes because I like how they look in packaging and I dont play with toys. I bought two of some Retro Spider-Man figures because I liked the packaging, and now the autistic collecting feeling is gone and I just feel retarded.

I definitely do. Since my main toys are plushies, I like to have spares so I have a backup to move onto when the main one loses its stuffing. It also makes it so I can have one to hug without worrying about squeezing it too hard.
My general collecting habits are definitely abnormal though. I literally just go for whatever is soft and vaguely cute even if I don't know or care about the character or brand at all.

Do you just pose them or actually play pretend like you would with a kid? Playing is easy to me when I’m with nephews but not by myself.

I'll pose and keep posing and mess with a few at a time even, but must of the "action" is just going on in my head.
Some times it's bit more tactile but never full on have em all out and make em punch each other.

I don't watch it. The Disney store near my gf was having a pretty big closing sale and she just got me a random selection of plushies that she thought I'd like. The hair is nice to pet and that's all that matters to me. As I said before, I don't care about character or franchise.
