I am a traveler seeking a figment from an era past.

When I was young, a child in the early 90s, I remember seeing these particular toy train sets. I think they were Thomas the Tank Engine themed, but what I remember stuck out to me was that they were like.. they were these little square dioramas, probably no bigger than about 8 by 8 inches? That were designed to be "clipped together", so you could sort of construct a larger model train-set from a bunch of interconnected "tiles". Each piece would be a small set piece in and of itself with some tracks and a station or maybe a hill or a bridge or some such, but the tracks would run off the edge, with the idea being you could take a number of other pieces and just sort of clip them together to create a larger custom train set. appeal was that there were a whole bunch of them that could be stuck together in a number of different ways to make custom layouts.

My search attempts have come up dry, but they left a really strong impression on me. It's at the point where I don't know if they're real or if I dreamed them up, or if I'm mixing a bunch of other toys together. But that thing - the clipping together of square dioramas to make a larger one - that was the part that really stuck with me.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?
