First off is scale. Model trains are, at least nominally, all scale models of the real thing.some are more toy like than others, though, and the line gets blurry sometimes. Still, as a general rule, every train in a certain scale should work with other trains of that scale. The most common scales available are
>N Scale 1/160>HO Scale 1/87>OO Scale 1/76OO is mostly a UK scale, but runs on the same track as HO Scale
>O Scale 1/43 in UK, 1/45 in Europe and 1/48 in the US. O Scale is further confusing as it comes in three rail and two rail varieties.>On30 Scale. These are O scale models of narrow gauge trains that run on HO gauge track>G Scale. G is 1/24 for narrow gauge and 1/32 for standard gauge.
