Found the original. Looks like a few posts into the thread the customizer reveals that the pieces are connected with kitbashed rods.

Showing off my Hexa vs 52 display. A little bit of 30MM thrown in there- love those new piloted-mecha units. My 52 base was recently revised and still needs a couple more plates but I have seven on the way to at least fill out the 3/4ths view.

Thanks! I am a bit on the fence about getting a Hexa vehicle because they’re so animalistic in design, and I was hoping to keep a more grounded aesthetic for them. I also picked up a couple of Joy Toy mechs to add and my feelings are… mixed, to say the least. Probably won’t get anything else from their 1/24 fare unless they make more compact mech designs or go back to ratchets, their new friction joints suck ass.

Just happy that No. 52 has so much base building stuff. Wanted to hold out a bit longer to see if they started selling he new core body with base stuff but I really want to try to finish this base. Wondering what their next post-pirate/Iris release will be, not really feeling the Iris armor.

Anyone know any other 1/24 lines?

I had that yellow, blue, and green combiner in the upper left. It really doesn't look like anything when combined, just a lump of shapes. I was always envious of the orange and yellow combiner in the front, which actually looked like a cohesive vehicle and had a cool cockpit and crane and bulldozer attachment. It just seemed like a much more well though-out toy in general.

Well ACTUALLY….

A submarine is a hollow tube filled with air. The hard thing is to get it under water, which is achieved by filling the ballast tanks with water. A heavy robot would have the opposite problem, in that it is very heavy and wants to sink immediately. To keep it afloat it would have an inverse mechanism with inflatable floatation devices in it’s torso and or limbs. Now that I think of it, this would probably be doable with a compressed air tank.

Still, having it swim in real life would be impractical. For a search and rescue operation it would probably walk on the ocean floor to the site, perform rescue, and return to the surface with it’s inflatable device(s).

I’m very much overthinking this.

Really excited/probably going to order another one because I don’t want to have to choose between hammerhead and normal, and also more base parts are always nice (those sick hatch parts in particular).

I’m also curious if we’ll ever get an update on this beauty. We haven’t heard about this or Iris in a while and they seem to be moving on from talking about either.

I kind of feel like it lacks cohesion as a design. Like, there are too many colors going on at once. White, orange, three shades of blue, two shades of grey...it doesn't really gel. My eyes are drawn everywhere and nowhere at once.

Each pair comes with half an end and half a side so you need at least 4 sets to make a complete but small boat. Then add 2x sets to increase the length to whatever you want it.

The shark comes with a curved piece but it's not confirmed yet if it matches the boat's hull. If it does then you could use 2x that to extend the length instead.

Actually, shit. Rereading my post made me realize maybe I'm being a hypocrite. The Mega guys themselves are loaded down with tons of removable gear, and thanks to strong connections, they mostly feel very solid and playable without pieces popping off everywhere. So maybe this shit can work.

Those rods stress the FUCK out of me. I use my tweezers to insert them, but the pieces are rounded, so I am paranoid that at any second my Tweezers could slip and send them zooming off to never be found again. I recommend using tweezers to get the tip in, then carefully use your teeth to push them the rest of the way. I know it sounds weird, but they can be really hard to push in with your fingers because they're thin enough to feel pointy, and sometimes you need to push fairly hard. I have built a LOT of their kits, and I am confident that teeth are the best method for this at this point.

At least they feel incredibly solid when they are placed, so the trouble feels worth it.

Finally have the time to focus on the build. For the ankles, two versions of the double ball joint is provided. Left one has a rib sticking out and prevents the heel from collapsing all the way when standing, but also prevents the leg from folding flush when transformed.

I’m a bit confused here. What’s the benefit of the left joint, then? The digitigrade legs are one appealing aspect of the figure and this doesn’t allow them to collapse in that way. Is the weight of the upper body so heavy that it would cause the legs to collapse that often? If it hinders articulation in both modes I can’t see the reason for its inclusion. Even so, I guess it’s nice to have options.

It's possible to do the same angle with plain double-ball joint with some adjusting, though the one with the rib would make this much easier to achieve, and also helps fill in the otherwise plain inside of the feet.

This is a huge shame. In my opinion, exclusive extras should be stuff that's cool, but unnecessary--like a giant gun or extra sword or some shit. They should not be something like this. The hands add a HUGE amount of play value and parts compatibility to the toy, and they just feel like they're supposed to be a default item.

I'm pretty unhappy about this. I'm a big fan of 57, but I hope they rethink their exclusives in the future.

Some have "official" combinations (like for example, this monkey x crab that is suggested on their box art). Others can just be frankensteined together using whatever combo of armor and pegs you like. It's pretty easy to swap stuff around since they all use the same inner frame.

Plastic quality is great, feels very solid. The inner frame is incredibly poseable and fun to play with. There are unfortunately quite a bit of stickers on some of them. And if you were unaware, these are basically plamo, so you'll need to fully build each one.

You just haven't done enough research yet. Mugenbine, Hone Hone Saurus sorta, Glyos (Roboforce specifically if you're looking to do robot builds), Rihio Multiabyss, Hexa Gear, you can do tiny robots with all of these. There are probably more, but that's what I got off the top of my head.

WELP, I guess I’m all in. Weird, because I really don’t like the overall aesthetic of Hunting Teeth as a beast (bike mode looks superior) but this armor set is too fucking cool. I checked into all of those and just now figured out that by "combinable" you meant individual pieces being added to them. But I meant like a megazord/Voltron where individual mecha combine into one bigger mecha.

Mugenbine did seem to have this gimmick but they're essentially impossible to get now.

Again, you just need to do deeper research my guy. There are a ton of combiner teams in toy form (mostly Japanese) across a wide variety of franchises, you just need to track them down. I know these exist because I've seen many of them over the last 10 years on /toy/, I just never cared enough to take down their names or find out more about them.

Two easy gimmes off the top of my head: that new MF Gurren Lagann fig where all the side character bots gattai into one big robot. Or Rail Racer, the much-beloved shinkansen combiner. Actually, you should look into TF Gestalts (both official and third party) in general, there's an entire world to explore there.

Those use the regular 1.0 powersuit parts so they'll fit in the container if you strip all the extra armor parts. The armor doesn't really store anywhere and even the sniper rifle is too long to toss inside empty diaclone containers.

Also note that their OC monoeye faceplate (left) can't close completely with a pilot inside.

Hexa Gear comes out with such cool looking shit but they started dropping the ball so fast. Not pre-tampoing the faces anymore pretty much meant that I could no longer buy their human characters, cause who the fuck can paint on a face so tiny? When they started producing some kits molded entirely in one color of plastic, that was kind of the breaking point for me.

I'll still pick up the large kits now and then, cause it seems like they do put in some effort on those, but the smaller stuff really suffers,

I feel they've learnt their lesson from Sneak Sight and Jester. Track Down was two colours and fairly cheap considering you got two dogs in each pack. Bump Up Expander also had pre-painted eyes as well. Hopefully Messer Float and onwards keep up the quality, plus it should also at least have two coloured runners going by the planner's comments.

I think they blew their load by showing the V-Thor a while back. Modular forklifts are a sight to behold though. If I were madder than I am and had more money than sense I'd go grab some of their Brave kits and make a Forklift Super Robot.

Next to an Astrobot, Joy Toy Mechs are always going to look “dirtier” due to their paint apps/wash. Similarly, their sculpts are by and large a bit gummier/less sharp than an Astrobot. They will not scale in any way with an Astrobot, unless you’re looking for something to tower over 1/18th scale figures, which are some of the more expensive mechs.

All the 30MM dudes are pretty nice, I really like the Portanova and Spinatia bits myself, but you can't go wrong with any of them, just pick whoever you think looks cool.
As for Hexa Gear, they've got a lot of stuff. I love all the animals, which are all fun builds, and the Bulkarm stuff are good chunky robots which you can't really beat, especially the Loudgale. The Governors can be hit or miss, the older ones are a little more janky than the newer updated ones, but some of the newer ones don't have pre-painted faces and stuff, it's very much a case of swings and roundabouts. The Bump Up Expander is a good dude though, his increased size makes him work alright with a lot of other Kotobukiya weapons and stuff, and I'm eagerly awaiting my Queen's Guard to go with my Sieg Springer.
If you wanted a bit of everything Koto-wise, they did a set with a Hand Scale Frame Arms Girl, a Frame Arms Jinrai and a Hexa Gear Woodpecker, which is quite a bit of stuff, and perfect if you wanted a bunch of bits to fiddle and customize, the set comes with all the runners to have a Gourai FA instead of the Jinrai too.

So the nice thing about the different factions in 30MM is that they all sort of represent a specific aesthetic. If you're looking for more angular and industrial-type builds, the Alto/Rabiot pair are really great, though I haven't toyed with the Espossito mold at all and it's key feature (transformation) doesn't appeal to me much. It seems the more you go down the line, the more specific the aesthetics/functions of the kits become- the Forestieri is marketed as a smaller kit than the Alto/Rabiot but it's got a doggo aesthetic that's... kinda weird.

The "Nova" line is a lot smoother and spherical in aesthetic, but I'll be honest, despite loving the overall form of the Cielnova, it's a mess from an execution standpoint. Legs are very heavy and weak at the hips/knees, and the torso joint has a high likelihood of coming undone. The Revernova and Gardonova look a bit more in line with the Zaku vibe this faction gives off, and while I'm not into the arms of the Gardo, I think it's too cool a silhouette to pass up.

The latest faction is very "lithe" in design and feels pretty structurally stable, though the Spinatia in particular feel like victims of size-creep: they are obviously meant to be a bit more in-scale with 30MS, which is ironic considering their limbs don't adapt that well at all. The Spinatio is a bit better scaled, though, and with the new armor setups seems to be primed as the go-to mold for this faction. I'm curious to see what else could fit into this faction, as in, what new molds they could create atop this, because it just feels like an aesthetic stopgap between the Alto line and the Nova line, but I guess we'll see.

Most accessory kits are cheap, but you really need two or three to get the most mileage out of customizing these guys. The "vehicle" kits are arguably worth their weight more than the weapon kits, but the sort of halfway point between them can be good, too. Super specialized kits like the Space Nova or the Alto Ground type are great starting points for modifying the base body, but you'll want multiples if you're gonna make anything truly insane.

Lastly, and this is my honest opinion, the best starting point is one of the latest kits: The Small Mass Production Exa Vehicle. It's a cheap, small robot that features adapter points for any other accessories, but works very well as a drone and scales quite nicely with almost any other line- either as large, nasty artillery robots for 1/24, human-sized drones for 1/18, and a small, but versatile drone for 1/12. I can't recommend buying multiples enough.

It's a bad time for cheap 1/60 pilot packs.

RIHIO's 15-man packs WERE the cheapest by far, at 70 Chinese Yuan per pack so like 0.70 USD per head but they're mostly sold out. They are still packed-in with the kits from MM004 onward. If you search hard enough on Aliexpress/Taobao you might find them.

Bandai Gundam Microwars candy toys are probably the next cheapest at 500 Japanese Yen for 3 dudes and a mech, so about 1.30 USD per head. However the line has been dead for more than a year. Also they are slightly larger than 1/60 and do not have leg magnets.

MFT, the main company making Diaclone KOs, only sold a small quantity of KO Dianaut 1.0 packs that came in various colors. I think they were 40 RMB for 4, so like 1.5 USD per head. Long sold out because MFT stopped KOing Diaclone like 2 years ago. You'd need to be very lucky to find leftovers on the market.

The one pack that you should be able to find still are these troopers by E-Monster released just last year. They are 75 RMB for 4 so 2.80 USD per head. They come with removable backpacks but the gun is NOT removable so they won't be able to fit in tighter cockpits. These are meant more as infantry troopers to accompany their mechs.

They are absolutely worth it. I haven't had any come apart except for intentionally popping arms and legs to swap them and make them distinct from each other. I haven't tried popping the ab joints, but they're solid. But what never fails to impress me is the mold fidelity and paint app at that tiny scale. The fists are barely a millimeter across but they have individual fingers visible. I have tons of the little bastards and not one has a paint app misaligned that I can see. Though I don't blame them for not putting pupils in the eyes, at that scale even microns of misalignment could make the faces look derpy.

Unfortunately, PE's stuff can sometimes be difficult to find. I'm still looking for their Ginrai, which for some reason is much rarer than their Ultra Magnus and Nemesis repaints.

There are different packs with different numbers of Dianauts in them for different prices. Some come with a sweet motorcycle. The older packs are going to be more expensive. They're almost exactly an inch tall.

I would guarantee modularity, on the left side of the image, at the back of the figure, you can see some of that hollow structuring that you would typically only put in areas that you don't plan on showing, as well as just above it you can see a hole going down into the structure. As well as the structure design on the sides of the pillars. The turret in the middle of the side has holes to the sides of it where you would likely hide the barrel to be able to fit something over it, and realistically, it would be a poor decision to leave delicate machinery open to attack

For the fortress alone, I would bet it would be ~$150-200, being generous, if it comes with figures, maybe $300-400 as it would need to come with at least 2 squads, of which the aforementioned pricing of a single squadron is ~$50, but from the prices of squad sets I can find online is $60-75.
Still kinda pricey for a poorfag like me, but not ridiculous.

Sand down points of contact slightly where possible to decrease rubbing. Topcoat your paintjob. Paint it in similar colors or at least values to the base plastic instead of doing a wild recolor, so that if it chips it's harder to tell. And handle and pose gently of course.

Basically, Diaclone Reboot is part of the Hasbro-Takara Transformers distro deal, so any shop that sells TF MPs would also be able to order DR (from Hasbro's Hongkong branch). However, the shops outside Japan and HK tend to only order just enough to fulfill preorders from what I've observed.
