Is it me or is Kuwabara's Spirit Sword kind of small? I know it's pre-Dark Tournament, though I could've swore he could make bigger energy blades from hilts even early on.

I was excited for this line at first, but seeing the core 4 together, I'm not really feeling inspired to drop $200 on them. The If Labs figures I've got from 2002 still hold up pretty well aesthetics-wise. If they end up making characters that If Labs never did like Genkai and Keiko, I might have to reconsider.

They definitely have some problems, but overall I think the set looks great together. I'm kind of digging Kuwabara's overall look, I just wish that they had given him bandages under his coat instead of an undershirt. I think Hiei is the worst of the bunch (should be shorter, should have done his Spirit detective arc outfit like everybody else) but he's still pretty decent.

Hopefully these have done well enough to justify some Dark Tournament variants, I'd love Kuwabara in his long white coat.

It's when the entire outfit is made of cloth that it looks bad. A jacket and shorts are passable but if you have something like a fucking Mezco or these YYH figures, it looks way off.

The bigger the scale the better it looks. Soft goods just don't look good on smaller scales. Like i said, when you have entire outfits in that scale they just look off. But if you have something like capes, coats, shorts, etc, together with a nice base sculp, it looks a lot better. Basically what Mafex, buzzmod, 1000toys and other lines do.

Whole outfits don't look as good imo. Tends to restrict articulation as well because the cloth won't want to move to let the joints get their full range, or if they do it pulls up on the sleeve/pant a lot and just makes it look a bit silly.

On the contrary, I prefer my toys to look like toys, that's why I don't like 100% soft goods on 6-7 inch figures(which is what I collect). If I wanted hype realism I would probably collect hot toys.

i've got yusuke, hiei and kurama.
hiei is the weak link. too tall and his faces aren't as good. the one with the 3rd eye even uses the default face with the eye painted over a flesh colored headband mold.

I got my Dasin Hakusho figs in, In some ways their Yuske is better but in a lot of ways its worse.
Articulation and the cloth fitting on the Oneshot especially around the pants look way better. The Dasin has this skinny jeans thing going on and the collar is way too wide. Also the shoulders feel really tight and finicky to move ine the suit.

In terms of sculpt, I might be seen as a contrarian , but I prefer the sculpt of the Oneshot and its attempt at capturing the look of the earlier seasons. The Dasin is closer to the season 4 look, but the eyes feels a little to small making it feel generic and less like Yusuke. Though I entirely prefer the sculpt and paint on Dasin's anime Puu. The Oneshot represent the manga well, its just that the manga Puu is ugly.

Interesting notes. I just started YYH recently for the first time and thought the first few eps were absolutely beautiful in terms of style and very 80s color palette. It dismayed me a little that it seems to be getting more "normal looking" as the series goes on. Even things like Botan's eye and hair color changed, becoming less soft pastel. Some of this is probably due to spending more time in dark demon strongholds and stuff instead of in the city, but yeah, I miss the calm, easygoing look of the early eps.

The paint on the Tatsumaki Yusuke is sloppy asf. The right eye isn't even fully painted on that open mouth face. And these are the prototype images. For most companies, it's usually all downhill from proto to release.

There are things I don't like about the Dasin figures either, which is why I haven't bought them, but side by side the $50 fabric figure beats out the $70 plastic one.

Well I got Hiei... and I'm gonna be frank its shit. The proportions are awful. Crazy long forearms, weird chunky legs, no arm definition at all, thicker neck than Yusuke and Kurama and the shitiest Hiei hair sculpt I've ever seen. The broad shoulders kill this figure. Also no pockets so he looks terrible in a Vanilla pose.

I refuse to believe Oneshot and Dasin are the same company at this point because by far the best figure is the Oneshot so far (So called 1.0).
The cloth/bodies on the Dasin's just feel like ass to articulate and look like ass by comparison. I mean I'm happy to get a new Hiei for sure, but I really hope Oneshot makes one to replace this. So far Kuwabara and Kurama's headsculpts are the only things Dasin have gotten right to me. They still look great together though.

Who the fuck is this meathead? It's nothing like Hiei's relatively petite frame. His long arms combine with those traits to make him look like a great ape. This shit is inexcusable, I can't defend Dasin no more.

I can't really say Oneshot is doing much better though..their headsculpts look like mushy aliens trying their best to approximate human form.

Well that was fast! Oneshot Kurama showed up and he mogs the Dasin. The Dasin Kurama was the best of the Dasin releases to me and it does still have some minor advantages. The OneShot continues to have better clothing, better articulation and the face is way better than the promo shots.

So far the Oneshots are just leagues better.The headswaps are great too, with my luck Dasin Kuwabara should be here soon. So far I'm pretty happy with both collections.

Thanks for all the pics, anon. As an observer who doesn't have any figures from either line, I like the look of the Dasin figures a bit more than the Oneshots. The OST has better accessories and outfit colors, but I prefer the later-series heads of the Dasin figures and the lack of necks on the OST is kind of off-putting.

A headswap really makes a better figure than either alone, but that's $100+ for a combined figure that's not as good as a potential S.H Figuarts would be.

I'm just tired of waiting for Figmas( which will probably be shit) and Figuarts (who will never finish the core team: Lupin, Cowboy Bebop) . You're right. I'd love it if YYH got even a 10th of the figures Figuarts has made of Dragon Ball, but the series would need some kind of major resurgence like a remake anime or high-budget game. I feel like the upcoming Netflix live action won't help our chances much if at all. The JJK line at least shows they can get an entire team out quickly when a property's hot. The size of Kuwabara's spirit sword seems to be much better in-hand than the promo images. Hiei really is the weakest link. I wonder if the inevitable OST version will scale well with them since that's almost sure to be an improvement.

Because cloth doesn't drape or fold the same way at small scales, so it ends up looking stiff. In most cases, 1/6 scale is the limit for truly good looking clothes, any smaller and it'll usually look bad.

There are exceptions though, depending on the material and costume. Like I think NECA's Halloween III kids look awesome.

This is a terrible point of comparison, since Bandai's anime facesculpts are largely trash. Dragonball is the only one they do ok on, and even that's not great.

But yeah, the facesculpts are not terrible here. They're probably the highest quality feeling of the three companies.
