But seriously, they got away with it because the 90s was full of ‘raw’ and ‘extreme’ subversions to traditional entertainment and products. Shit like this wouldn’t fly as much today because tastes have changed. Seriously, go look up 90s toy commercials and see the kinda stuff that was the theme of that decade. Grunge/Metal theme song jingles, edgy artwork for board games/commercials, it was all over the place, young people embracing it and older folks repulsed by it.
