They're only skyrocketing because they're a giant company who needs to keep stockholders happy and a bunch of Marvel movies bombed (which hasbro paid a ton of money to license), leading to weaker sales.
PLUS, corona and all the woes from that increased prices for shipping AND delays created one of the biggest clusterfuck in history worldwide.

Other companies don't have to worry about stock holders that much, weren't riding super high with overpriced licenses, thus they were able to eat any costs and keep their prices the same for the past two years.

IS Hasbro the only company who has reacted this wildly from the events of the past two years? I follow and buy from pretty much every toyline and almost every other company has been steady, with only a few doing minor price increases.
I don't follow Mattel's shit, but have they increased prices by 20-50% like Hasbro has? They're also a large company who reacts strongly to stock holder demands, so they should have too.

Also, part of the reason why McFarlane (and Spinmasters) aren't desp[erately increasing prices is because they got hte Dc license right as the pandemic started, so everyone involved was "previewing" it and how sales were/are going. So if sales were weak starting off, renegotiations to renew the license would be based on corona affected sales. So the license was renewed at a lower price than it normally would.

In the US at least Masterverse has gone up 3 bucks, and I think Origins has gone up somewhere between a dollar or 2. Hasn't hit all other regions yet, but it probably will soon. If that's it, that's a good choice. If these manufacturers take a small hit in profits, their products seem infinitely higher value than Hasbro's. I would far rather buy McFarlane or Mattel than Hasbro just because it doesn't feel like I'm being gouged so that they can claim big profits the next quarter.

Just got my target Batman Beyond set. Didn't expect Terry to have the featureless no mouth head(didn't reasearch it, honestly) which is disappointing, but its a cool set. Really nice expressive articulation on BB. This set would be mindblowing to give to a kid, might pick up a second for my nephew. I do think there would be more variety with Marvel because they have more popular character who would sell better, including females.
But at the very least you'd have more variety in sculpts. Also, I genuinely just prefer the 7 inch line and find 6 to be anatomically odd, even if it's an optical illusion.

You're not going to have variety in Marvel Legends much longer. If you think figures like The Hood, Arcade, Speedball and other C-listers are going to sell at 25+ bucks, you will be sorely mistaken, and if you think retail will put up with those figures continually not selling their expected allocation and being forced to clearance, you are even more so.

As the prices increase niche characters are going to fall by the wayside despite fans loving that shit about MLs, because they just can't make it at mass retail, and no one is going to buy 4 C-listers, a B-lister and a single A-lister to get a BAF that totals 150 dollars+tax+tip

I think both of you have a point to an extent, but as far as the c-listers go, it would be smarter to go with their better known versions, which wasn't the case with Blight for example.
They still won't sell much because as you said they're c-listers, but they'll probably be more popular.
A-listers should have various variants though.

The thing is, the line is inherently fucked due to.. too much texturing or whatever.
Or the knees, joints, etc, etc.
It's not really about the versions of the characters and arguably never has been.
The line has been established as one that heavily features alternative looks of these characters with articulation and sculpting that is to be expected by McFarlane.
Expecting some kind of miracle to happen and for McF to basically become Mafex 2.0. for 20 bucks is unrealistic.

I think the point about the missing classic variants is good. But I also like the alt. variants every now and then.
The actual quality of the toys, in terms of sculpt, articulation, etc is a whole other can of worms and clearly some people are heavily against it, so I don't think simply releasing a classic Captain Atom or whatever would do much to remedy that.
However, I think the best way to resolve the variant problem/debate is to have McFarlane poll the fans on what specific versions of the characters they want, and then ALSO throw in his own chosen variants and have a 50/50 situation where both sides are pleased.

I don't get what you mean? I did like the Batman and Superman figures I bought. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like the Arkham Knight figure in the mail. I'd like that Batgirl just fine if MFT knew proportions.

I'm still considering getting that 3J Red Hood. I like a lot of stuff Todd does, he just consistently does a few things that are big issues, for me.

Given what we're seeing with China shutting down its cities every week or so, any western companies need to get out of manufacturing in China now. The sooner they get to Vietnam or Indonesia, etc the better off they will be avoiding delays. Anyone remaining in China is insane because the cause of the shut downs will never disappear and the Chinese government can't admit their policy is wrong, so it will continue on unto eternity.

DC Direct and McFarlane also have some good ones, but Direct articulation could be lacking and McFarlane either hasn't made enough of them or enough in a similar style, if that's your thing. If you just want a variety of good looking Lanterns for a shelf, DCUC is a great choice.

I've picked up all of characters for The Batman except Selina because I didn't like the masked headsculpt and hadn't seen the "unmasked" variant anywhere yet. However, I saw video of someone claiming to have found a Gold Label variant that essentially seems to be a running change to give Selina the half-mask style she actually wears in the movie. Anyone else know anything about it? I think I may prefer it over the others unless they just do her entirely without the mask.

Exactly. The figures Todd put out first had the mask covering her entire head except the eyes and one with the mask rolled up to her forehead like a toboggan. Like I said, this Gold Label seems to just be an excuse to release a running change of the correct version as an exclusive.
