Question about balljoints

No Custom General up so I'm just making a throwaway thread. Want to make my own figure, but I'm curious. Are there any ball joints engineered with a female plug hole as well as a male, as opposed to both parts of the joint being male plugs? Example would be like a revoltech joint. Most ball joints I see have two male ends. Is it possible to engineer one with a female end?

I know they're not ball and cup, they're what, ball-hinge? I think that's the term.

Might be hard to find what you're looking for. The off-the-shelf joints are usually male because it's way easier to drill a good-fitting hole on a custom part, than making a good-fitting peg.

Sorta. Large Glyos axis joints work like Revolver joints and have the same range of motion, but cut at a diagonal instead of straight up and down. This is smart engineering, as it allows the peg to be mounted firmly on the surface, rather than what most lines do (only half the peg is attached to either side, which makes for a weak and more easily broken connection). This same smart engineering also makes enough room for a female port.

So, the larger axis joints (up top, on the left and right) come with one male end and one female. If you insert a switch pin (bottom middle), it essentially just turns into a Revolver joint.

The joints can also be separated into halves (with male and female ports on the interior as well) and reconfigured/combined, so you have a ton of flexibility with how you wanna use these. For example, this figure was mostly built using axis joint pieces, with just a few odds and ends from random figures thrown in here and there.

And since every connection is technically a point of articulation, and the angled swivels give you a lot of nuance, the build is highly articulated by default.

Smart or not, cut joints like this are like the kind of cuts Kaiyodo used to do, and while you can get solid poses out of it, they're not fun to play with.

Disagree, but to each their own. I don't own any of those old Kaiyodo ones but the Glyos joints move just fine, I never really feel like I'm struggling with them or anything. Unlike those Kaiyodo figures, these are independent joints that swivel at three points each, and in practice as joints, I can just move limbs around easily without thinking.
