>>9768793I think this is it. The early 2000s with ALL the 80s reissues, McFarlane getting fucking huge and introducing the idea of the expensive, ultra detailed collector's toy as an adult collectible to a generation on top of the reinvigorated Star Wars franchise. Video games were aging up around this time too with the major franchises for the console wars were mainly M rated games for teens and adults, that also had merch lines coming out.
But at the same time, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter jumping in on that specific adult detailed collector's toy craze as well. Both franchises had more expensive, more detailed, more articulate figures that sold to way more adults than kids at the time and basically made that a semi mainstream thing. Before this time, all movie related toy sets were basically the exact same cheap, for kids stuff as everything else on the aisle. Dick Tracy, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Jurassic Park, Independence Day, Terminator 2, they were the same old 5 poa cheap stuff. LotR and Harry Potter were McFarlane styled soft vinyl, very ornately detailed with every single little extra accessories the actor had stuff that sold more to adults.
All happening at the same time around 2002-2006
