The One That Got Away...

Post about your "ones that got away" in this thread.

A few days ago on Yahoo Japan Auctions I found this like-new-in-box Kuuten Senshi (released in 1980s as Spinjas in the US) battle arena with what appears to be a store display of 72 more figures sealed in their original packaging, many of them duplicates. I watched this auction for days until finally putting a max bid of 17500 yen (about $140 USD)

There were 9 others watching but I thought (hoped?) that no one else would bid on this. The auction was ending at 8:15 AM, which is when I'm usually asleep. I tried to stay up but ended up losing the battle around 6:30 AM, so I upped my max bid to 25000 yen ($200 USD) and hoped for the best. I woke up from my girlfriend's alarm about 30 minutes after the auction ended and quickly checked my phone to see if I had won... Nope. Somebody outbid my max bid by 500 yen ($4 USD)

Fuck I'm so sad... My birthday is coming up next week and this was meant to be my gift to myself. I was planning on keeping the arena and one of each unique figure from the 72 while selling the rest at profit. I would have probably made over $1000 if I sold these at $20 a piece as well as helped to seed a bunch of brand new figures into the collector community. Now it's anyone's guess where this went, but I doubt I'll be seeing a white whale haul such as this ever again.
