I don't get figure grading. It's not like cards where you have a single 'product' and you can judge it based on condition and alignment of the print. With figures you have the package and the figure itself, so it is like a product in a product. Given you can't see certain parts of the figure in the box, how does one determine the figure isn't fucked in places you can't see? Is the box the only thing that matters as long as it is sealed? Or is the condition and paint apps of the figure actually taken into account as well?

I hate your autism wanting graded figures, but I hate mine for needing to know the answers to these stupid fucking questions.

I think the packaging for a lot of toys is really cool. Stuff like dino-riders, vintage motu/transformers, etc, the box art is actually appealing. I feel nothing looking at modern toy packaging though.

I dont know about other franchises, but for TMNT, the Super 7's are simply the best figures you can get.

The Turtles are inspired by the original toyline but bring them up to modern standards. The style they're in, together with the articulation and replacement parts offered, simply make them top shelf.

But as said, I don't know about figures for other franchises.

Grading is literally a scam.

Look at what happened with the video game grading. The only people who care about it and push it are the grading companies themselves and others who are involved with the company.

Didn’t we just have the first NES game go for a million dollars? It was bought and sold by officers and founders of the company.

There has been packaging with literal mould on it given highest ratings.

What? I don't doubt this happened, but if you have any sauce on that I'd be interested to read into it. Kind of makes me wonder if the grading is done on a curve rather than a standard.

Getting anything graded is a scam tbqh. I have a few graded comics, including my signed Amazing Spider-Man #1, just because they're signed and it's the easiest way to authenticate a signature. I got my ASM #1 signed at a con by Stan Lee and CGC was there to ship it off just after signing. I won't lie it was kind of a rip off but it is nice to have my book sealed and preserved forever I guess. Still wouldn't do it again unless to authenticate a high valued signed book.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the cost of getting it graded? I guess it doesn't hurt to get things graded as there (obviously) are idiots out there that will spend more money for some arbitrary number labeled on a hard plastic case. So it isn't like you hurt the value of your comic.

The whole system seems to be purposefully obtuse (especially when you see company reps talking about how most things get graded around an 80) and it drives me fucking crazy. I don't get why I don't see collectors asking 'why' things get graded in the ways they do rather than just being like 'AYYY, TVC GRADED BRO' and making a youtube video about it.

Oh gosh it's been like 7 or 8 years now. I wanna say it was more than $50 but less than $100 for the actual fees themselves. I just looked up what their current rates are and I remember them valuing the book at the highest level they could but I didn't pay whatever the rate is now. $80ish seems about right if I'm remembering right. Like I said, the only reason I have comics graded is to authenticate the signature on them. I don't have any unsigned graded books.

Oh it absolutely is. With CGC comics they at least give you a rundown of what dinged the grade. I'm into YGO too and from what I understand, the TCG graders don't even do that. Two identical cards can get completely different grades depending on who did the grading that day. It's dumb. I don't hold much value in the grades number desu. My ASM #1 is graded at like a 2 because of how old it was but I've gotten offers for it in the thousands of dollars when I showed it to some of the high value comic dealers that go to conventions. So depending on what the item is, the grade doesn't really matter much.

Getting a ASM #1 graded makes sense and I probably would have done the same thing in your position.

But who the fuck is out here spending 50 dollars to get a 50 dollar MODERN figure graded? You effectively made it so IF you do sell the item it has to have at least triple in valued in order for you to make any sort of profit. (Especially after eBay feels or similar.)
