This seems like a good thread to ask, do you guys have a preference on Carbonized or Regular releases for TVC? Specially, I wanna grab a Moff Gideon but can’t tell which version is better looking. Anyone got pics to compare?
Anonymous
>>9822180 Carbonized is just garbage ass bullshit marketing to make people rebuy a figure. It's not accurate, it's just shiny and stupid.

So I got my Throne Room Boba today and I won't lie, he's kind of a floppy mess. He can't hold his gun well either which bothers me. Should I try to see if Hasbro will exchange me for a new one? It's borderline terrible I won't lie. Anyone else's this shit?
Anonymous
>>9822159 Wish I didn't miss the preorder but hopefully it will come back. This is the only version I want.

>>9822207 Oh neat hadn’t considered it. Would his accessories also be given the shiny treatment? Either way I’m pretty sure carbo-Moff is on sale so I may do just that anon.

>>9822180 It depends on the figure for me, I didn't pick up carbonized Gideon but I did happen to see it instore and for him I believe the normal release looks better and more accurate, even the carbon saber looked a bit too bright to be a reasonable extra. Conversely, I'd argue Cara Dune looks more correct with the carbonization, and while it's not even close to accurate the carbonized Shoretrooper is uniquely adjusted to not only be shiny, but also be a darker and warmer color so it looks golden, which is nice and worth picking up one of if you enjoy alternate-color troopers. The rest are pretty skippable though; the Death Troopers look almost the same, the Remnant/Incinerator troopers look pearly rather than metallic, and the rest are all generally off in one way or another.

what are the TVC wrist joints like? are they prone to shearing off if they are tight/stiff? haven't gotten any for awhile until now and they feel fairly tight.
Anonymous
>>9823106 They are usually really tight until you crack them. Some figures I just don't bother and run them under hot water to get the wrists moving. The only figure I have ever had actual issues with the wrists of was the Walmart reissue of the Tusken raider which I managed to tear both hands off of.
Anonymous
>>9823106 They feel really right out of the package. I usually warm them up and work the joint a bit now after I had the right hand shear off on the first Walmart exclusive Mando when I tried to use the joint the first time.
Anonymous
>>9823112 Ok cool, it's good to know they're mostly fine but I'm not quite sure what you mean by
>They are usually really tight until you crack them. do the joints get cracks in the joints/plastic around it?
Anonymous
>>9823128 Cracking a joint is just getting it to move for the first time since removing it from the packaging. They are usually stuck pretty tight and make a distinctive sound which you probably already know if you collect TBS
Anonymous
>>9823122 >>9823162 I see, thanks for elaborating. I've never had that cracking joints thing on a figure before, only 3.75" SW sporadically.
I'll make sure to heat up them joints, thanks anons
Anonymous
>>9823184 The wrists are the weakest part of TVC articulation (both physically and movement wise) and the only part that has ever given me trouble really. Now that they have basically perfected the leg and ankle articulation I hope that they try to take a look at the wrists next but it's hard to say whether they will be able to improve much since they're so tiny. I don't know if it's possible to do at this scale but having some kind of barbell joint in the wrists would do wonders for the articulation as they are a lot easier to crack without breaking and they would give wrists a wider range of motion, as they are all currently either only swivel or with a single direction of rotation either up and down or in and out.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>9823106 I've never had any trouble with them. Just be careful as you apply force. Once they start to move you're fine. Use heat if you need it, but keep in mind the hotter the plastic the softer it gets and the easier it is to to tear. I doubt you'll need heat the vast majority of the time, though.

My other 3 3/4" scale figs aren't really that scale (JT 40k, Halo) so they can get a way with a bit more which can be nice.

>>9823474 Four possibilities:
1. Someone at Hasbro was very excited and managed to convince enough people to try and make this happen.
2. Someone at Disney genuinely thought this was a great product for their line and made Hasbro make it.
3. Someone at Disney wanted more fodder for their antiracist marketing strategy and didn't realize that a Haslab failure would be more illustrative of a lack of support for the character than racist hatred of the actress.
4. No one managed to get approval for a better idea after the Rancor failed, so they just tossed out whatever had the most synergy and people with time to work on it.

Have Vader's meditation chamber with lights and a little buzzing movement, some light up computers on the bridge, an armory room, a palpatine communication room, some minor OC rooms like holding cells, a probe droid launch, and a vader lightsaber sparring practice room if you're feeling spicy.
One important aspect is that they can release and re-release a ton of figures to go with it, and they are all incredibly popular figures. Vader sells, all the bounty hunters sell like crazy, you can sell a bunch of storm troopers and imperial officers left and right. Some droids. Basically every single bad guy from the OT would not be out of place on one of these things, so it does make sense and would be awesome.
Only tricky part is that the outside shell of the ship... the original star destroyers are more iconic AND could more easily actually house a playset, but 90% of what we see inside them is Vader's super star destroyer.

>>9831116 I disagree on it being good for a haslab.
The barge already happened and kind of fills the same role- a bunch of random aliens- but with something that has more screentime, more action, and even more of the heroes involved.
Plus we've just gotten the narvaro cantina, and I think you're basically correct- if done right it can be made modular and people can buy 2 or 4 or 6 and make an entire thing of it. For that reason it would work best as just another vintage modular set like the tantive 4 hallway.
I think this
>>9830687 is the way. A Star Destroyer will *never* happen outside of a haslab. It can be an effective base for an entire trilogy's worth of villains. It also has the cool alien factor with the bounty hunters, but these are characters that are constantly referenced in other media and actually get stuff to do vs the cantina aliens which are usually deep cut references at best.
The argument can be made that a death star playset is a better pick over a star destroyer for a giant haslab playset for the bad guys, and that would be valid, but I think that too would be better served by modular sections sold in stores, like an improved version of what they toyed with back in the POTF2 days.

What's the general opinion on the black series? I'm curious. As a kid, star wars figures were pretty much always small, four inch figures of passable quality at best. I like that the black series are not only bigger, but resemble the characters more in their faces in particular. Maybe I'm just easy to please since these are the first SW figures I've bought since the late 90s.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>9832728 6 inch scale is better in every way, the only reason the smaller sizes are around is because it goes with peoples old collections and it has nostalgia points
Anonymous
>>9832728 I think only the articulation is the nice part about the black series, as the 3.75" figures were lacking in it almost all the time.
Likeness seems like a step down, since there have been some god-tier tries already before it. The early Black series stuff was just meh compared to what we got in 3.75" and the fact that there were like 234098243 different re-tries in 3.75". So if you didn't like one, the next year you'd see like 5 other tries.
Paint is improved in 1:12, with new techniques like the face prints, but it's nothing huge like articulation is.
Accessories went down severely, but that's unavoidable and also happened with the 3.75" figures.
Character selection is paltry in 1:12, even nearly a decade later. As mentioned before, there were like 234098234 different figures being released in 3.75" every single year until Hasbro decided that 1:12 would be the main scale for all their line. And then it became like a two dozen figures were released in a year. Absolutely tiny selection.

tl;dr give the sith standin some actual fight scenes in which she can look competent, instead of a bunch of subterfuge that she has to fail at or else the timeline would break.

Just found Fennec Shandy and a 501st trooper at my local target. The trooper articulation is absolute shit, and I don't see why they wouldn't have updated it yet considering they could be reusing a new and better mold. Fennec is a great figure but he smaller gun is absolute shit. The paint is smearing off like it was butter on a hot pan where can't hold it because of the way her hand is molded with the trigger finger and trying even just a little to get it by in her hand caused this.

Is it true that phase two TCW clones are rare? I find it hard to believe because those toys aren’t even that good.

I got a couple of the regular phase 2 clones a few years ago, they werent too abundant and ppl would ask for some high prices but if you knew where to look they werent too bad. Theyre certainly harder to find now
Now the 501st Phase 2 clone jet trooper was rare, I think I heard it didnt even get a full release?

>>9836821 What you said isn't entirely true. George thought back to the original cut after the events of the trilogy were over and decided that since Han turns out to be pure of heart by the end that he would only shoot in self defense like a John Wayne type so he went back and altered it.
You are however correct in the original scene having some more ambiguity to it. There's a gun shot and a puff of smoke, we don't see who it came from but we see the aftermath of Greedo's dead body, implying that Han is well suited to this chaos. Initially it conveys that Han doesn't loose and the scene is echoed later with Han's mirror character or double, Chewbacca when it's said that he is never able to loose a silly game due to his brash and impulsive nature.
Both scenes serve to outline an impulsive and quick moving philosophy, one which is better harnessed through an expressive framework that Han only adopts by the end of the film.
George basically rectified the shooting scene not to give it a better thematic understanding but rather to bend the knee to some autistic logic.

Second one was she keeps shilling NFTs.
