Bandai still holds toy rights for Machine Robo. This is why the recent Go-Bots characters look nothing like the originals.
Back when they did the Mirage Repaint as Crasher/Fracture, Hasbro's lawyers were all up in the designers asses. They had to prove a real car existed with that color scheme, since it was so similar to the original crasher.
However with the reception of the recent Bug Bite and Road Ranger, there may be interest in more accurate Go-bots.
It's probably a pipe dream but I still want Earthrise Starscream and SS86 Wreck-gar retooled as Leader 1 and Cy-Kill respectively.
