> market forces are deciding what companies make. if people weren't buying it then they would stop making it.The thing is, once the Official MP line went more animation accurate, most 3Ps did, too. XTB still tries to please both sides, but now have two options instead of trying to balance animation and toy accuracy. The Hasui style of MP-10 just isn't available anymore.
Even then an attempt to sell everyone the same designs they bought in the Hasui/Old MP style again isn't entirely working; look at the deformation space Seekers going on deep discount already.
>so we had depictions that were simultaneously more toon accurate but also stylized to be demonstrably different from the show? I'm talking about stuff like Metalforce, the Japanese convention model Kits, Heroes of Cybertron. They weren't 1:1 to the model sheets, or any episode of the cartoon, but idealized versions.
>the animation sheets are more detailed than they ever appeared on screen. that's how animation sheets work. That's not how animation model sheets work generally. You absolutely want to stick to model except for the purpose of certain effects, like squashing and stretching, exaggerating things, etc.
> "taking the wheels off" isn't a decision to save on drawing wheels you mongoloidIt absolutely is. Remember that cartoon characters only having four fingers is also done for the sake of budgeting. The Dery animation model sheets were already used as an example of an nightmare model sheet to have to redraw when my friend went to SVA, having to draw wheels over and over would've been a lot of time to devote, which is why they were simplified.
