Are ultrasonic cleaners a meme when it comes to "deep cleaning" an airbrush? I only use lacquer paints, and I'm sure there's some hardened Mr.color paint that's accumulated somewhere on the airbrush (there's some in the feed cup that's stubborn as hell). I'm afraid to submerge the entire brush into lacquer solvent cause I'm pretty sure the o-rings on my iwata brush can't handle it. I did buy replacement o-rings, but not for the air valve body which I can't unscrew. what do

They don't really work for caked-on paint, maaaaybe if the dried paint is loosely stuck to the surfaces. With water and soap they are as effective as fine-bristled brush, just that it's automatic and is able to get into confined spaces.

You still need to use some solvent as the cleaning solution if you're dealing with dried paint. However, ultrasonic cleaners heat up during use and consumer-grade ones like your pic's aren't explosion-proof, very risky.

You should be using hardware store lacquer thinner (cheap) or brand airbrush cleaner like Tamiya (expensive) to thoroughly clean your airbrush after every session and you won't need to do any "deep clean". There is absolutely no reason to have any paint residue in the feed cup of all places, the stuff blasts away everything.

By thoroughly clean what do you mean? After a session I usually load the entire feed cup of just lacquer thinner through the brush twice . I also religiously clean the inside of my cup with pic related to remove any stubborn residue, and wipe the inside of the cup with a gun q-tip (that are small & spear shaped) soaked in lacquer thinner and make sure there aren't any cotton residue in the cup. I goofed one night though and forgot to wipe the inside of a cup during one session I'll admit. I did spray lacquer through it as usual, with 100% alcohol next, and then two sprays of water. I also wipe the needle clean (sometimes lube it), and clean the nozzles and crap.

Probably because i’ve used windex before to clean the airbrush and the chrome stripped off on the inside of the cup cause of the ammonia. Some dude on here recommended it to me before and i didn't do my research so i fucked up on that part. But i do use them for preventative measures like sticking them in the nozzle even though theres no paint caked in there most of the time. Its just part if the routine desu

In a surprising move, Daban has released 1/100 V2 Gundam Assault Buster with no modifications to the panel lines and/or greeble

surprising for sure since this is one of the least reprinted MG from Bandai (even the base V2 only)

They don't, but if your jars have different age they will require different thinning ratios because some of them dried out more than others.
What you should do is add a few drops of pic related to the jar until the paint has the right viscosity and only after that thin it. You will find that if you start with the same viscosity, the same amount of thinner is needed.

yes that's normal. different colours of any paint often require different thinning ratios. there is no set thinning ratio for paint even of the same brand, you just have to do it by eye

These gate removing kits actually work/worth it? Right now I use two nippers, one for runner removal, one for nub removal, a knife and then sanding. But I've seen some of these specific gate removers claim they can remove few mm nubs without surrounding plastic scratches, which sounds like witchcraft.

Yeah they are pretty good. You can still over do it with the file but they arent as abrasive and alot if metal files have all sides abrasive so they will dig in at the corners. The raser is good as it has bezeled edges so it wont cut as much at the edges. A bit more expensive than a glass nail file but great for beginners to files. You could get a nail file and buffer blocks for cheaper. Essentially the same thing the raser and balancer are.

Hey duder, this stuff worked like a charm. I was able to thin it as well as my other blue. Comparing the light blue to the intermediate blue, the light blue's viscosity was slightly thicker prior to adding the replenisher. I'll definitely keep track of viscosity from now on. 400grit still shows through primer and paint unless you're caking on way too thick layers.
you still want to go up to about 1000 grit even when painting. i use 600 grit for removing plastic then 1000 grit to finish it up so the scratches don't show through the paint

Thoughts on my 1/144 Barbatos?

Early on in the build, I screwed up trying to use a wet brush technique to paint the red insignias on the shoulders and legs. It led to a pink mess on the white plastic whenever I tried to soak or wipe up the excess paint. This led me led me to try to cover up the pink staining with some white paint, which then in turn I tried to use some strong tone to mask the fact that my white paint didn't quite match the plastic. But the tone was just too strong, which led to another round of (proper) white paint. And then some weathering on all the parts to make them uniform in wear. Finally I said "Fuck it." and used some Gundam markers on the red insignias & joint areas, which I should have just done in the first place. That was followed by a final spray of matte Mr. Surfacer,which of course I added too heavily, giving some areas like the blue chest part a frosted tint. I've considered going back and adding a gloss coat to the white to hide the brush strokes, but at this point, I think I should cut my losses and call him done. Well, maybe after I glue the removable backpack pod units shut. They keep falling out and I'm not going to get the optional weapons packs, so why not?

Good points: This was my fastest custom painted build in only 4 days. The yellow fins on the shoulder pads are NOT painted! I used orange rust weathering powder and an orange Gundam marker to color them. The color blends perfectly with the other yellow plastic parts.

TL;DR Mistakes into miracles, the model kit.

Yes I did, thank you. This is my fourth Gunpla and the first one with this much painting done on it. I majorly screwed up early on, but managed to salvage it from being a total disaster. I learned to think about painting procedures and have a lighter touch when spraying.

As for the MG God Gundam itself, it can surprising hold itself up against the newer MGs.

the MG is basically the road to 2.0 MG. surprisingly, it can do a lot that newer MGs have trouble doing like standing on 1 leg without support.

The only problem with it for me is the chest. the way chest opens up is bad, and the HiRM God Gundam did it better.

So, yeah, its a really good cheap MG.

The full explanation is Bandai split all the gunpla and plamo off into Bandai Spirits (blue logo) in like 2018 so they use that on any boxes made after the split. They didn't bother remaking the instruction booklets though which still have the red logo on them.

I use it more so I don't have to go to my compressor to change the pressure if I want certain techniques like a very spotty mess with the valve almost closed for weathering, that's really what I use it for and quickly disconnecting my brush from the hose
I can't really think of what it'd do to compensate for trigger control

No it doesn't mean a change in plastic necessarily. Straight up reissues like yr God Gundam are mostly unchanged. Some renewals like the 2021 version of HG L-Gaim (originally from 2001) has its ABS parts changed to KPS.
