Personally I think Airrachnid makes more sense as a Horrorcon than an Insecticon; she fits their template of "Monster/Flying Machine/Robot."

But then again, I agree it makes sense for a spider to be the commander of the Insecticons, since the leader of the Dinobots is a carnivore that preys on the herbivores his subordinates are modeled after.

Personally, I like to imagine a G1 BlackArachnia being the Insecticon one and Airrachnid being a Horrorcon.

So how far would the spider limbs/helecopter blades be, this is G1 we are talking about here, and how would she have supports and stuff. The Headmaster thing should be easy to pilot the helecopter mode though, and would she have a stats readout on her. Also would her head have two sides, one for spider and the other for her robot mode or would the spider head detail be on the feet/back of the legs and stuff. Detail is needed to be considered for designing G1 blocky stuff

Bah. They just threw random crap for Titans Return for characters that didn't have one. "Professor Go" was the only one that even referenced the source material in some manner and that wasn't actually on the box. You could call it "Archa" or "Deaspider/Webslinger" and be done with it.

Yeah, I think you're right. I don't know where you'd fit the white into her, but other than that she shares their black/purple/other color theme. I guess you could just leave the white off of her entirely.

Maybe replace white with gray, since the other two had white, and to not just make it the one comic’s design, also the helecopter roter being used for something interesting, the general goal is making this one more sturdy vs most G1 Helecopter due to the 8 legged spider mode is likely the best route

I've always wondered about the Horrorcon's jet modes because Snapdragon is clearly a Blackbird, but Apeface doesn't seem to be based on anything. I don't know if they were supposed to be based off of real vehicles, or if they were intended to be weird Late-G1 space vehicles or what

Pretty much just his face is all. I think the rest of the head looks pretty good, and the overall robot mode/car mode looks excellent. He does seem to be lacking a little smirk, too, so that'd be a nice addition as well. Here's a little doodle edit of what I'd want, basically.

You know, now that I think of it, if we were retconning characters back into G1 we could probably turn Spittor into one of them, since he appeared in Animated. Though he might not fit with the Horrocons - maybe he would have been a new gimmick, like a water-squirting Firecon.

There's also this guy, who kind of fits the "beast/vehicle" triple changer gimmick

I think that works actually. You could fold the legs under the torso to make the spider mouth parts, and then put the eyes on the shoulders.

basically you'd attach her head backwards from the way you do Snapdragon's, and the legs would fold under to form the fangs

Transformers Generations Titans Return Astrotrain

I never did get the orange creamsicle prerelease version

Astrotrain turns into a kind of space shuttle. We'll call it Cybertronian, definitely not Earth flavour.
It's very wide and flat profile is pretty much devoid of paint apps. You'll have to get the Japanese version for those, ya bougie bastards.

He come with the franchise's most useless landing gear and far more onboard weaponry than any shuttlecraft should have.
This toy is one of those ones that just doesn't feel good. The whole thing is a just a collection of too-thin panels.
But he does have two different seat for his head to sit in.

Much more fond of Astrotrain's train mode.
It doesn't look like a real vehicle either, but in an interesting way this time.

He's just this enormous armored battle train. Many many guns pointing in different directions.
My favourite part of it is probably how he gains so many wheels. Even if they are the panels that make the shuttle feel not good.

For being a train Astrotrain doesn't roll very well. The three big castors on the underside just don't turn as well as they should.

Robot mode is "the best" of the bunch but it still comes off incredibly flat to me.
For sure the most dedicated paint apps, sparse as they are. The black on his legs, red on his tummy, and yellow on his forehead.
Other than that Astrotrain is still the same slab of purple and off-grey plastic.

Astrotrain has the basic loadout of articulation. Missing the waist, ankles and wrists like most pre-WFC toys do.
I wish I could find more to talk about, he just isn't that exciting.
The arm cannons are pretty cool though.

Pretooling sort of seems weird to me, but it makes a lot of sense when I think about. Do a test with the new design, and then use that to work out the kinks that your paying customers find for what you actually wanted to use the mold for.

You give them too much credit, the idea is to double dip the market and they were experimenting if sales go better if the figure not intended for the mold made first improves overall sales. Before this the intended mold was usually made first such as Thunderwing and the OC style look came after like Sky Shadow. Now it seems the norm is the OCs are first before the intended figure outside of of few like Wreckgar/Junkheap.

ehhh I feel like both prime and animated had different lead artists who both had really... bad taste in how to draw faces, in different ways and did very strange things. when you did get noses they tended to be these ugly shapes.. regardless of features, they loved these overly flat and overly long faces, especially faces placed on kind of a plate in the center of the head rather than framed by a bulkier helmet..

Not going to lie I really love Tracks' car mode. I own most versions of it, save for the Kingdom version.
So anytime it appears I'm going to gush about it a bit.

It's the low body, sleek shape, curvy fenders... Love me a Corvette*
That said I'm not the biggest fan of whatever this flamejob is trying to do. A bit too tribal. But it was the style at the time.
If I get the opportunity to get a United Tracks I might have to take it.

Just like the vehicle mode I've always been a fan of Track's robot mode.
The knight-like helmet, the wings, the smarmy new england attitude. What a dreamboat.

Tracks is one of those guys that just canonically has a backpack so that makes finding space for vehicle mode mass easier. Just snap some rockets onto it and now it's a feature!
I want to say Tracks here is a bit wide in the chest but looking at his other toys he kinda sorta always looks like that. Maybe it's the little extra bits that pull out that push the image over the edge

If he opens the boxes, he can't return them to pulse and will have to got through the very annoying process of returning them to HCC, then wait for them to send a check with whatever he spent on it. If he doesn't open them, he can send them to pulse but the toys might be fine.

BTW, if you return to HCC, you can't ask them to honor the original order and send you the items again, you'll have to reorder at whatever price they currently have. Pulse is probably one of the worst online stores I've had the displeasure of returning anything.

Especially coming off Alternators Tracks, this figure was really disappointing to me. I get a lot of people like it but I always thought it was ugly. Looking at it, I'd say you're right: most of Tracks toys have the torso the same width BUT the roof isn't the entire torso. Since the Reveal the Shield mold makes it span his whole torso, it winds up feeling "bigger" to everyone. It's a subtle difference.

It also has the problem of many of it's characters being new twists on existing characters who honestly are always going to be lower priority compared to their predecessors, a problem it shares with the Unicron Trilogy, and Prime to some extent. If, for example, Animated Prowl was named something different such as Patrol then it would easy to slot him in as a Generations figure, it might even have happened already(just look at Lugnut and Lockdown), but when Hasbro wants to use the Prowl name it's going to be the Police Car version every time(and the same goes for the Prime versions of Prowl, and Smokescreen, as well)
The only exception to this seems to be Prime Arcee who just had a figure released in Legacy(and RED iirc, those things don't come out over here so I'm not too sure) but this followed a G1 Arcee figure released in two previous lines and a new one in SS86 that was announced right after Legacy Arcee started hitting shelves.

My question is why Hasbro can't just make "being based off of Animated" the next gimmick for CHUG. we've seen in the past that they're willing to go off model for the sake of gimmicks (i.e. Combiner Wars), plus since Animated is one of the most beloved Transformers shows I can't imagine it would have a hard time selling.

I think now that they're all about brand synergy Hasbro regrets the days of random name reusage to some extent.

I think Hasbro fully regrets it, nameslapping on characters that don't deserve or match the name very easily destroys the legacy of the name. UTshit was rife of this in an attempt to destroy the foundation of transformers and archer is the one responsible for it. the faggot didn't even grew up with G1 and yet Hasbro gave him full power to do whatever he wants under Hasbro orders. They did that as soon as Micromasters with Sky High being used twice in G1, and Beast Wars had lots of people who had the same name but were different people, even swapping between "good guy/bad guy" factions like Bonecrusher. It is absurd to claim that people who live in a different universe have to follow the same naming conventions when even the ones from the "correct" one don't.

yeah but it's more absurd to shoehorn in known names purely because they're known, on characters where they don't fit. it was weird when beast wars did it, but they had a vested interest in trying to tie things in with G1 after it was decided they would be in continuity with it (which actually makes it an even weirder decision, but) because of how different it was.

One of the little things I always liked is that in the novelization, the reason she's called Alice is that her altmode is an Animatronic of Alice in Wonderland stolen from a themepark. So I think it makes sense for her to have a human shell instead of a more monstrous one like the movies

-Can't remember how headmasters came about, but that ended up making the combination of both into a stronger robot.

-Targetmasters and Headmasters were originally implemented as a way to keep the Autobots from doing things that were considered evil (if they did anything evil, they would eject from the head and blow up the body, while the weapons would stop firing), but this ended up giving them power ups as well, with it's own share of weaknesses.

It didn't need answering, most stories never got far enough to have that answered, while Marvel killed most of those characters.

Some stories imply that they could just build new heads but the process would fuck up the transformer and it seemed like it also caused problems for Powermasters.

It still rubs me the wrong way that this bitch got a happy face being with zero cumupzanse in the Unicron series.

The entirety of her extremely brief run in her series she’s shown to be a bigoted, imperialistic, murderous, unrepentant sociopath. And her most notable accomplishment was killing a transformer older than the universe itself (Kup) for the crime of trying to stop Ironhide from just stomping her dead, and for just sort of being in her general vicinity while she was being an angry bitch.

It’s like what happened with Slide, but somehow even worse.

The writing of literally the entirety of the final years of the IDW continuity was just so inexplicably flawed and shitty all the way through. It’s like their story/writing editors just stopped even trying.

1. he used to be an artist(or some equivalent) with some vague class-revolutionary sentiments,
2. his brother Tracks still cares about him despite him pretty much doing everything short of actively trying to kill actually him in return,

Nah, Megatron’s still firmly established as having been a genocidal tyrant who order the unprovoked extermination of trillions of sentient beings, and systematically instituted ludicrously horrific war crimes in an attempt to achieve totalitarian total control over his entire species.

With both Megatron and Prime they were pretty clearly trying to show how reasonable and just ideals can pretty easily become corrupted by not having enough limits on the means your willing to take or compromise to to achieve those goals.
They just leaned way /way/ too hard on that concept of moral grey-ness to the point where it’s started to become dissonant and ridiculous.

TLDR: They went, “what if [Bad-guy] at first started out wanting something kind of good?” “And what if Good guy started doing somewhat bad things to try and achieve good?” But then overplayed those themes way too hard, to the point it almost felt like they were portraying [Bad-guy] as good and [Good-guy] as bad.

The weird thing is that despite trying to say that Optimus was going "too far" to do good, he either reigned it in almost immediately, or was justified at the end. The moments where they act like Optimus isn't good enough to his own men felt like the most ridiculous bullshit, what else was he supposed to do, drop everything any time any of them wanted to cry?

Also, it was hilarious how they were portraying Optimus Prime's self sacrifice as a bad thing... then ended the continuity with him doing it again for like the 11th time.

There was a little market selling the usual nerd related stuff. Comic books, figurines, home made stuff, starwars, videogames, anime, toys. There was only one guy selling actual transformers but I also saw a few wood burnings and pins. I was kinda tempted to buy a wood burning picture of Soundwave playing with Ravage. Think flea market but with nerdy shit. The transformers were all $5-20 but they were also all used. Pretty good condition tho.

Aside from the market they also had a bunch of booths and events like a cosplay contest and videogame tournaments.

For the Magnus, I have the Kingdom version. Both versions have been heavily maligned and while I understand the complaints, I actually think he's super fun. The inner robot got a ton of heat but I think he's cool as fuck

Been awhile /tfg/, you guys helped me get back into collecting last year and I've been really enjoying it.
Wanted to ask what the verdict on Legacy Galvatron was.
I actually got Kingdom Galvatron last year, but it came with the fucked up shoulders, and it's still in the box.
Mainly because at one point I was wanting to follow the tutorials that people would post of how to fix his shoulders along with using a level of alcohol to get rid of his "battle dirt".
But of course Legacy Galvatron doesn't have any of that, so since mine's still in the box (mainly because of moving when I was planning to buy some of the tools for the tutorial) I was thinking of just selling it off and buying legacy.
I already know how great the mold is from those who had the Kingdom, but I was skimming some reviews, which were mostly complaining about how the new type of box came damaged, which makes sense.
But then I saw pic related.
Is this guy just talking nonsense or has there been a shift in plastic material since the Kingdom line?

robots wearing mech suits is always a little weird to me. powered-up modes i get, on super robots, but something meant to be halfway realistic as a life form, I'd rather see more of a 'main body folds up and enters a much larger body as its core' or something. a trailer becoming a most-of-a-body makes just more sense to me than becoming a hollow-stuff-you-wear though i guess since a trailer itself is hollow, maybe there's logic to that. i'm surprised it rarely gets used like.. optimal optimus's modular armor panel things

I think I prefer the siege ultra magnus style of the trailer parts being worn like an exosuit. The core of the robot detatching to become a smaller robot feels like you're taking away from the big robot, while armoring up feels like adding stuff.

Speaking of which, is the new menasor the core style?
