I don't want it damaged. It's rare or holds a high personal value. It looks as good in the box as it would on a shelf. I don't want you to touch this. It's valuable. I'm sure there are multiple other reasons but that's what I use as reasons for not opening toys. I mostly open all mine though.

Why wouldnt they take pictures of the boxes they like and get them framed? saves them time, money, and a whole lotta space since they don't have to buy shelves. You also can "collect" every figure from every line, since you aren't spending thousands of dollars every year on actual figures.

I play with my toys, I said I open MOST of them. Some are sentimental or just so old there's no point in opening it. I don't open megos because I don't want dusty cloth or sun damage. I don't collect for any perceived potential value, I do it because it means alot to me personally.

They are paranoid that opening it will "lower its resale value"(well yeah) and they use the excuse that they are investing in them to continue hoarding and buying more and more. in the end they will make a very negligible amount of money for taking up all that space over years and years or if they die whoever inherits it will just undersell it all to get rid of it ASAP.

I mainly keep old stuff MISB if I get it as such because of the nostalgia factor. If its an old toy it might have an update that's better, or the old toy doens't fit in a display or something.
Its funny, when people complain about the displays that look like stores--I LIKE that. Its nostalgic. The feeling of so many choices, finding new figures, spending time just reading toy packages to make a decision. It was a happy time in my life, I'm still happy but its nice to revisit or encapsulate that flavor of happiness.

I only keep my figures in the box only if I buy it in person. In my mind it keeps alive the memory of the hunt and purchase. Oppositely, if I order something online then it holds no sentimental value to me and the odds are I will open it.

They display more nicely in their nicely designed packages and take up less space because they're on my wall as opposed to a shelf or table in my room. They're also better protected from dust, and far more valuable than they would be if opened.

Well these are Origins, so they're based on the vintage but they are a current toyline. They probably won't have the same value as the actual vintage line MOC, but eventually these will become vintage figures in their own right in 25+ years.

I didn't understand them until I realized how much dust my figures were accumulating, and how rapidly, despite how often I dust them and fool around with them at my desk when I'm waiting around for emails. I feel regret every time I open something now.

This makes complete sense to me. I mostly collect bjd and 1/6th scale stuff so I keep te boxes to increase resale value but I display out of the box.

For vintage toys keeping them in box makes the most sense. Articulation is usually shitty on them anyway and the box often has dated graphics that add to the feel of the toy. I open modern stuff because %99 of it will never be valuable due to the sheer scale of production now + the amount of adult collectors hoarding stuff.

Stuff like keeping boxed Funko pops is stupid only because Funko aren't going to be popular forever. They cover a lot of flash in the pan shit that will hit goodwill in 5 years time mint in box.

I really dislike MOC/MISB collecting and the 'tism that comes with it, but you have made me reconsider my position. However, I will argue that most MISB collections all look the same. Your Battle Beasts collection is actually what I consider the ideal situation: loose but carefully curated and displayed. It's very unique and very cool, just like the anon with the gumball machine full of keshi figures. The MOC Origins stuff you have is cool too but I would wager that many collectors have taken the same route. I just think that all MOC/MISB collections look pretty much the same and it gets a little boring.

Guy you're replying to here. I get what you mean, but I feel that exact same way about out of box toys. People end up with the same collection and they just get stacked on a shelf or in the case of these Origins, on Castle Grayskull. Sadly, Man-E-Faces and Clawful arrived on damaged cards to I had no choice but to free them, but Trap Jaw's card wasn't ideal either but I did my best to fix it and now he's up there with the rest.
