Got the wfc ultra magnus upgrade kit. Pretty good. Definitely gives him a better scale. There's 2 small parts I have no idea what they're for but eh.

Just got my first legacy figure which is Dragstrip and is this what $40 Maple monopoly money deluxe is now? Really light plastic and a lot smaller figures? At least the plastic seems decent even without the weight.

Transformers Generations Thrilling 30s Waspinator

Pretty big deal at the time to be getting new (good) Beast Wars toys

Now Waspinator's bug mode here is good but far from perfect.
The colours look good. I'm a fan of the two tone green. Not a big fan of the brown though. Strange that they use it for the antenna when it isn't even bendy plastic.
The shape is a bit weird. He's got a lot of under carriage stuff going on and the arms are just blatantly there, making no effort to hide themselves.

Really enjoy how Waspinator is actually standing on his spindly ass legs. T
here's no robot mode mass holding him up from underneath.
The flapping gimmick feels good to do. Waspinator's abdomen fits in your hand very well.
It's all very ergonomically designed.

i will agree it's not perfect. being so thick-bodied and hunchbacked with tiny legs, and being green and all, he kind of evokes the look of a cicada. you can even put his wings in a cicada formation and they're the color of Cicacacon's (I think?)

Robot mode was the one that got more care put into it.
I'd compare with Kingdom Waspinator, but I never bought the toy.

Waspinator demands to be photographed from above because his huge titties make it difficult to view has face from low angles.
And getting a good look at the head just makes one want to get the Takara version with the painted antenna.

The bug legs are something that would get in the way, but for neutral poses they do a good job of filling out Waspinator's silhouette. Going above the shoulder line is a great look.

I like the little bit of transforming the gun does.
Waspinator has enough joints to be good but some of them are so weird to use.

Mostly his knees.
Waspinator's knees are just slightly stiffer than his hips to a point where quickly doing poses becomes just a bit more of a pain.
Also his knees only bend back about 40 degrees but bend forward 90

Can't really complain about anything else. No ankles no waist, boohoo.
But he does have a neck and wrists.

i almost want to leave it untransformed, the hole in it bugs me.
I also literally just noticed how weird his knees were. they really do look like that on the show but it's weird.

The original concept had a very different transformation that made me think they originally planned a springer retool. There was just such a significant change, specifically hindering tape deck mode and the final product has a few really strange elements that dont really make any sense.

Yeah but the official is like what? $100 more expensive than FT and it has less articulation? I'd go with the less accurate but more heroic look that fits better with my MP-10. Same for the V3 of Optimus, I stuck with MP-10 cause the price for that V3 is just not worth it with all the QC issues. With that I might as well buy the KO during TFcon just so I got a stand in V3.

The Rumble/Frenzy situation is somewhat unique because even at their most tooner, Hasbro and Takara have largely followed the toys over the cartoon. Even the MP cassettes.

You sound so fucking bitter like my mid 40 year old friend who said fucking Beast Wars ruined the series for him. Like no bro, Beast Wars is what saved the franchise in the 90's as it was so stagnant even Japan went with Braves. It's the first Transformers out of Japan at the time that actually had plot and a good one at that and not random mishmash of episodes and animation errors of the first 2 season. Season 3 did a bit better with a plot line at least.

Nostalgia goggles really will murk up shit. I can't stand watching the first 2 season of G1 myself cause of how fucking bad it was. Don't get me wrong, I fucking the G1 characters and toys but the show is shit. Even the Marvel Comics are a lot better.

Well at least the Japanese stuff did it kinda better. The cool thing about late beast era is that they had burned through the obvious animal choices and usual transformations so they had to think of ways to keep it exciting and interesting. Even shellformers were a way to avoid just making the beast limbs robot limbs. Up until Kingdom/np beast wars we hadn’t seen such elaborate beast transformations after.

Huge rework. they don't just dub it, they cut out parts, rearrange the order of scenes, and splice in bits from unrelated animes; the Robotech 'series' is actually made up of three different anime: the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Calvary Southern cross, and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA. Almost all of the original dialogue - and thus, the original plot - is removed and replaced, and it basically does its own thing; because of this, it doesn't acknowledge any of the other shows that make up the REAL Macross canon.

I DID address it: They completely removed all of the original dialogue and replaced it with their own that spins an entirely different narrative, removed scenes, and rearranged the order of events of what remained. As a result, it tells an entirely different story from the original Super Dimension Fortress: Macross and can't even really be called a 'dub' as much as a 'rework'.
Imagine I took the '86 trnasformers movie, removed Megatron's whole death scene and meeting with Unicron as well as Optimus' death, rearranged the order of events so that Galvattron showing up and killing Starscream is the first thing that happens in the movie, removed ALL of the dialogue and replaced it with a new script that makes Galvatron seem like a new and totally independent character from Megatron who's piloting a massive robot named Unicron with an army of Junkions at his command, and so on. What you're left with is totally inaccurate despite still technically being the same movie, which is what they did with the Robotech anime.

Up until the last 10 or so episodes it’s a very solid dub, even for modern standards. Deaths aren’t covered up, but there’s some gore censorship. The big changes happen when protoculture is changed from a concept to a power source , and scenes of SC are edited in. The idol Music is changed, too. But otherwise it’s very surprisingly faithful.

Anon, let me put it this way , for most of the SDFM portion of the show the dub is more faithful than just about any other 80's anime dub out there, and more faithful than a lot of 90's/early 2000's era dubs as well, honestly.

The thing is, because of Harmony Gold's treatment of the series and part in preventing localization of later entries, its very hard not to bump into (perhaps rightfully) biased people who will shit on the whole thing regardless. I ill say

does seem biased in that regard, besides editing for the sake of censorship and a few for name reasons(i.e. instances of the character's Japanese names being on screen) and the scenes of Southern cross added towards the ends there's not a significant amount of editing in the Macross portion to the effect that the meaning of dialog and narrative is wholly changed. Scenes weren't rearranged as far as I recall and most episodes are close translations of the original.

No problem anon. For what it's worth I would say nothing outside of the 80's dub that came out of Robotech is worth seeking out as far as visual stuff goes. Some people do have positive things to say about the novels, I've yet to read them though. I mainly watch the SDFM part of Robotech for the nostalgia of seeing it on Toonami, and also really liking a lot of the dub VAs even if its not their best work. Overall though I think its enjoyable. There is a more modern dub that's closer to the original if you chose to watch it dubbed.

There's always been a dubious theory that Kirby was trying to get GW bought out by Hasbro by deliberately tanking the brand wherever he could before he accidentially overplayed his hand and got booted in favour of someone who didn't want to destroy the company.

I got the stuff I wanted out of those. Paid out the ass for the Unite Warriors version of Devestator and got Earthrise prime, Wheeljack and Megatron. It's more the newer stuff I want that's letting me down like the Kingdom Beast Wars guys who for the most part are fucking great but I had to get an upgrade kit for Scorponok because he sucked so bad. Maybe I just focus too much on the negatives when I look up reviews and posts here. I do like the MP Starscream despite the glaring flaws like lack of waist swivel.

When Cybertron came out,that Giant starscream was fairly cheap on sale (like $20), so I bought one, and some of those G1 Spychanger redecoes and since Shadow of the Colossus had just come out I had my own little story concept of to-scale Transformers. Several. There's UM's one retool, WfC Galaxy Upgrade Prime, of course. RiD'01 Optimus Prime does it, two times if you count his combination with Ultra Magnus (which works basically the same way). WfC Jetfire technically has armor, but it's not nearly as much as UM. And like >>9888809 said, there are plenty of Cyberverse figures that have an armor-up gimmick, though they all have limited articulation. Otherwise, 3p has a good deal of them, but most of them are just different versions of Optimus, with like one or two Megatrons.

Each member of the original BW cast was intended to by an expy of a character fromG1, though this would later get scrapped as the characters developed their own personalities. Scorponok was originally intended to be a blend of Soundwave and Shockwave - a mad scientist who was the actual right-hand man of the main baddie and who deployed drones and viruses against enemies; his character was changed pretty early on to make him a blindly loyal idiot, with the only remnant of this idea being his Cyber Bee and the virus/lab we see in 'Gorilla Warfare' and never hear about again; the 'Shockwave' role (AND Starscream role) would be given to Tarantuals instead (who pulled it off far better than Scorponok or Terrorsaur, the original Starscream expy, ever did).

Megatron didn't change his name after getting his Beast Mode because he was already using an alias - he admits in Season 3 that he took on the name Megatron, so we actually have no idea what he called himself before he assembled his little misfit crew.

Actually, he had a 'If you get to be a real pain in the ass you'll just drop dead' plugin installed in her, as we see in 'Proving Grounds'. He didn't activate it because her swapping sides and causing a bit of chaos for Megatron was still somewhat useful to him, since it kept Megs busy while he was busy working on repairing the Nemesis. He activates it when he detects the Maximals are trying to actually remove the shell, though, and it does actually succeed in killing her, but the Transmetal Driver revives her.

Unfortunately, I am pretty sure that Hasbro does leave certain things for 3ps to handle. All of the upgrades here except for the gap fillers I printed myself from free files (which are no longer available because the creator got angry about them being used commercially, I can't blame her but China's gonna China even if you ask nicely that they don't).
